the gig in Paris Saturday is canceled
they try to make it in time for the grammy awards (if she gets into the states,at all)

To be fair, though, this would be an easy week to make number one: Alicia Keys is at the top with only 132.400 sold.

Other "interesting" figures: Plant and Krauss - number 11 for 69.100 copies - outselling Led Zeppelin at number 14 with 59.500 sold.


...and you only have to sell 23.600 copies to be number 50 in the world!! ;-)

Troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE was temporarily released from rehab on Monday (03Feb08) - to apply for a U.S. visa. The Back To Black hitmaker left the London clinic for just a few hours to meet officials at the U.S Embassy. She was accompanied by her father Mitch and a nurse, as the terms of her treatment mean she must remain under supervision at all times. It is believed Winehouse is applying for a visa to attend the Grammys in Los Angeles on 10 February (08), where she is nominated for six awards. But a spokesperson for the star said no decision had been made on whether or not she will attend the ceremony. A statement reads: "The appointment at the US Embassy was made some time ago and was part of process for obtaining a visa. No decision has been made about the Grammys. "Amy was accompanied by a nurse as the appointment was under supervision. She has not left rehab and remains under the care of the clinic." Winehouse was banned from the U.S. last October (07) after she was arrested and fined in Norway for possession of cannabis.

now her visa has been approved! she will stay in UK and still do her appearance on satellite, due to logistics. but her visa WAS just approved, and when she wants on she can fly over here, which is good news. makes this sundays grammys much more attractive to me.

did notice that the PBS station in my current area, seattle, will be playing 'rock and roll circus' and another really important rock show (slips my mind right now which one) on sunday opposite the grammys'. they had to do another pledge drive telethon (with a zillion LONG interruptions) and program it opposite the grammys? sigh. gonna be hitting that button on my remote that will toggle me back and forth. i think tina is going to perform; and i won't miss amy.

yeh i can confirm the visa approval from NME in above link, and also heard it on one of the cable news stations in the states...

the link i left in previous post here was just a few minutes after it hit the AP; now it's showing up on NME a couple hours later...it is confusing; yesterday she was denied; i guess her people had some sympathetic ears at the US Embassy. in any event, we all to see her sunday...Are the Grammy's broadcast live in Europe? (some nine hours behind you from the west coast where it will happen live)?
