I'm a bit confused, BV, because you said " Mick will be on tour in the spring"...solo or with the Stones as a part of the extended ABB Tour?

If that tops the charts, Debra, I'll pay your airfare to London for the next Stones shows here, book the two of us into the Savoy for a week and have Bjornulf serve us breakfast every morning. *

>Frankly, I'd love to see that happen! There's so much REAL crap on the Rolling Stone top 50 and Billboard charts these days that it would be fantastic to see Mick beat out some of that garbage

yeah, but i'd rather he did it with something of quality. Not with something thats every bit as cringeworthy.

the only way that song will be a big hit will be if (God forbid) he croaks it the week before it comes out and thousands buy it in one of those bizarre displays of hysteria-induced loyalty

Another thumbs-up for Cherry Oh Baby.I like the 'unfinished' sound of it.

* and no, Debra. You going out and personally ordering 50,000 copies of the single is cheating.

This is just part of the cycle...

Mick takes a break from the Stones and releases lame solo material.
Keef get bored because he has nothing to do and no friends to play with.
Keef hears Mick's solo crap and says to himself "I can write better stuff for Mick than that" (then Keef writes)
Keef then calls Mick and says "Argh argh arg...I wrote me some new riffs mate, come have a listen...har har har"
Mick and Keef eventually get together and the riffs evolve into songs.
While writing songs, Mick and Keef start talking about tour concepts.
etc etc etc

So somebody actually likes Charmed Life?
It's the worst song I have ever heard from any Stones members.

..well maybe he still does....perhaps Rough Justice is all him...I dunno.....but then don't you need to go back to Love is Strong maybe for a really really great meaty riff to attribute to him??? That's a long time me thinks in between....

Personally, I think Keith was responsible for much of VOODOO LOUNGE and BRIDGES TO BABYLON and about 40% of A BIGGER BANG (mainly music, not lyrics). The difference is Keith's solo excursions are limited to covers of songs he loves and not albums of original material. Mind you, there are folks around here that probably believe Pierre de Beauport is writing and playing the riffs for him...

According to the IORR news Mick will be on tour this spring. It's all in the news, as posted Aug. 26, same day as the tour finished. It's the band not just the singer.

PS. I am looking forward to a week at the Savoy. There will be full english breakfast.

keith wrote too tight as well. i know this because the bass player jeff sarli (rip) was a friend of mine.

charmed life is a great dance tune - its a @#$%& terrible stones tune. If you can appreciate dance music (not everybody can or does) you'll enjoy it - if not - put cherry oh baby on!

Charmed Life is throwaway. Speaking of which, why isn't Throwaway on the album. One of SIR Mick's finest solo ditties.

Bv, we all know you must stay in good terms with the Stones, but to call C.L "a great song" is going a bit too far.
that song imo is bad and it sounds like shit.

Hardly tantamount to co-writing too much of ABB which seems primarily composed by Mick for the most part - even the music.

The last 25 years is a bit harsh, but after a burst of activity in the late 80s and early 90s up to Voodoo lounge, you're basically looking at

Flip the switch, Lowdown, Too tight and the 3 songs he sings on on BTB
Losing My touch
Maybe 3 or 4 off ABB

Micks been far more productive when you consider hes put out a few solo albums too

No doubt Keith's 'written' other stuff, but if its not being released, theres not much point.

Always struck me as a bit ridiculous that hes forever bashing Mick's solo work in public when he's not exactly productive himself.

They are not in the band??

I agree and he even uses that song on the Promo someone posted on You Tube.

I'm still undecided as to the merits of this song after having seen teh video once, but what I do know is that it has a strong hook to it in the parts where Mick sings something like "I'm living the charmed life". After hearing the song only once, that part is stuck in my head, which may not be good, but it shows that the song is catchy.

The trouble is defining what constitutes writing when we're talking words and music. They do contribute to one another's songs. I agree A BIGGER BANG is more Mick than Keith, but its hardly a Mick solo album with old band members along for the ride. On the other side of the coin, I don't doubt Keith worked hard at crafting "Too Tight," but most if not all of the lyrics sound like Jagger to my ears. I would also argue that BRIGDGES was as much Keith's album as it was Mick's. I'd be interested in knowing more about what happened to Jeff Sarli, if its alright with OldKR. He was a helluvva bassist and I didn't know he passed away. His style seemed similar to Bill Plummer's. I'd call it Joey Spaminato on uppers if you know what I mean. I belong in the camp that hates "Charmed Life," but I wouldn't knock anybody who likes it. I don't hate dance music, by the way. I really like "Rain Fall Down" and thought "Hide Away" was one of the best things on GODDESS IN THE DOORWAY. "Charmed Life" sounded too much like something Mick adlibbed in the studio for ten minutes and decided to call it a track. Be interesting to see what happens with their Virgin contract now that there's rumbling about making another album or at least a few more songs.

>> ABB which seems primarily composed by Mick for the most part <<

not the way i hear it. i hear a large share of genuine collaboration on ABB,
along with some "mainly Mick" and some "mainly Keith" numbers.
people have been second-guessing the Glimmer Twins regarding who wrote what since the get-go
with very little basis for their assumptions.

oh and add Hurricane to the list of what Keith's written and released in the last few years

Cham Lay has already been a success in terms of airplay in the clubs - certain remixes have already topped the dance charts- the release (as is usually the case) is way behind the curve.
