Although this lyric is probably very tongue in cheek from Mick, its still a very brave move from him. I'm genuinely surprised by such a statement even if it is just an observational look at things. Proves me wrong about him anyway.
Way to go Micky boy, looking forward to this one.

Really, really hope its not like Doom, or OMS. The lyrics dont promise too much. they rhyme, thats all.

With all the rambling on this thread, I've forgotten... When is thus new MJ song out?

It's saying the 28th of this month, I thought it was coming out this Friday.

There's a pic of the front cover of the single on amazon uk.
Gotta get a grip roughly written over a newspape page,it's hard to read but it looks like it's written over the lyrics to the song I think.

Thanks! smiling smiley

Thanks for sorting out some of the lyrics to gotta get a grip.
Reading thru the lyrics they are all about what's been happening in the world recently.
I wonder if it's going to be similar to billy joel song I didn't start the fire, that's the feeling I get when reading the lyrics.
Some of the lyrics are quite near the mark, it be interesting to see the reaction to this song.
I'm really looking forward to hearing these two songs of mick.

This is what I could read from the lyrics on the cover:

Gotta get a grip
Beat 'em with a stick
Shoot 'em from the hip

The world is upside down
Led by lunatics and clowns
No one speaks the truth
And the madhouse runs the town

Well you gotta get a grip
Gotta get a grip
Everybody stuffing their pockets
Everybody's on the take
The news is all fake
Let'em eat chicken and let'em eat steak
Let'em eat shit and let'em eat cake

Gotta Get a grip
Gotta keep it zipped
Shoot'em from the hip
Gotta get a grip beat em with a stick

I tried diversion
And I tried coercion
Meditation and medication
LA culture and aquapuncture
Over eating and sexy meetings
Induced insanity and Christianity
Long walks and fast drives
And wild clubs and low dives
But I can't get you can't get you out of my nind
But I can't get you out of my mind

Immigrants are pouring in
Refugees under your skin
Keep them under keep them out
Intellectuals shut your mouth

Beat'em with a stick

Chaos crisis instability. Isis
Lies and scandals wars and vandals
Metadata scams and poncy shams
Put them in the slammer
Gotta get a grip

''Everybody stuffing their pockets
Everybody's on the take''

Yes this is Mick being autobiographical eye rolling smiley

Seriously though, these are some of the best lyrics from Mick in a long long time, they have a cool vibe and flow to them, ME LIKES smiling smiley

Now i'm hearing this song with Keith and his Riffs all over it confused smiley
Ant gonna happen baby. More's the pity.

I wonder if these couple of teasers from Mick have been inspired by the success of Blue And Lonesome. I'm truly ready for a Mick solo album now, i honestly hope Mick has finally got over his writers block.
If he can't dance with Keith doesn't mean he shouldn't dance
Oh i feel a song coming on, ok i got to get a pen.

As we don't want no politics on this site, I won't respond to the substance of the lyrics,
but reading them, I can hear them either being rapped, or barked out in the way Mick
sang in the 80s.

But we'll have to wait to hear the actual song before we draw any conclusions about
the road Mick has taken.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Seriously? Where's the fun in that, riffie?

Can't we conclude in advance that the tune is yet another attempt by a pathetic Peter Pan at hoping some relevance rubs off on him by kowtowing to some much younger pop star? That's the way I choose to look at this, anyway. After all, this is almost certainly just the result of one of those dogshit 40 demos that wasn't good enough for The Supposed Album, no?

BTW, I went on record as taking the over on the June 1st, 2018 release date for Hitting the Wall. I've now revised my estimate and will take the over on Never in Our Lifetimes as the new scheduled release date. There's no longer any creative reason for these two old drama queens to work with each other. Let 'em tour the world for a few more years, work on their own shit with people they don't despise, then call it a day and play with their great-grandkids.

In other words, there is no Stones album coming ...

Sounds lame.
It's no 'Revolution', that's for sure. Or even SFM, which recognized the irony of the times --- what can a poor boy do?
Mick doesn't seem to realize he's part of the establishment now, and if a change comes, it will sweep people like him aside.

I'm wracking my brains trying to think of when Mick last did better lyrics than this latest effort. I mean come on guys Mick has never been a Bob Dylan kind of writer. He borrowed a few good lyrics from books he was reading in the 60's and it's been down hill ever since. I see gotta get a grip as a positive, just curious about the song itself now. Never had the pleasure of the lyrics before the music, what a novel idea, I wonder if when Mick releases the video for this it will come without sound for a week or two so we just get lyrics and movements before sound. Brilliant, actually maybe this single won't have sound at all. Genius, this way Mick gets attention while maintaining writers block and Keith can't get jealous. Great move Mick.

Hey LongBeach I know you said the Stones are becoming unlistenable, perhaps Mick's lyrics without music could be the answer to your problem

Nice job, Cristiano. The best effort yet.

As for the lyrics, they remind me of "Dirty Work." A song I have no real problem with, to be honest. Not the best on the album, but not the worst.
