The majority of sales will be downloads. The cover is designed to function 1 inch square.

Hmmmm... I'll bet this is correct! Guess I'm just old-fashioned.

With so much search volume and site traffic now on mobile devices' smaller screens ... design campaigns have to work specifically in this space.

Yeah I suppose that is the case sadly - I cherish the days of holding a brand new vinyl album with the cover art on all it's glory which I still embrace to this day.
And I thought cassettes and cd's were a pain in the ass because of the miniaturized artwork...winking smiley ...now it's one inch square!!!

So with that in mind - the simplified bright blue cover has it's function,
but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been designed with more thought and imagination involved.

Well, the vinyl still isn't up on Amazon, and the shipping on rollingstones.com is over $11. So I guess I have to wait and actually go out and buy it somewhere in an actual shop. confused smiley I haven't done that in so long I'm not sure I remember how . . .

It's up on Amazon UK. Ordered mine over the weekend.
It was about £24 but if the price falls prior to release you get the lower price. Can't argue with that .

I still think the vinyl and deluxe will show up on Amazon US. Why would they not?

You've pre-ordered all of their albums that you've ever ordered: pre-ordered literally means before you ordered them; you waited to order.

"Are all those holes pre-drilled?"

Yes. I need to drill them.

I hear ya, Hound dog! Must be frustrating.

But mines arrive always a couple of days before.

In fact: it's one of the reasons I stick to Amazon... (albeit: co.uk, to be exact.)

Whoops, drifted OT there,so ... I like "Still a Fool" and I am very much looking forward to hearing "Blue & Lonesome". I am unconcerned about the album cover art.

Yes, regardless of any functional requirements, it's hard to imagine cover art that would require less effort.

it doesn't matter if it's on itunes or a full size vinyl,we can still see it.

i know the cover of adele 21 instantly, the black and white picture of her looking thoughtful.guns and roses use your illusion 1 and 2 were released in the cd age and if you showed it to almost any rock and roll fan they'd know the orange and blue mark kostabi paintings right off.it's an iconic image that i've never seen on anything larger than a cd case.

art doesn't need to be "functional" it needs to be artistic.

Possibly it was, and it just isn't that obvious. For one, it isn't just a 'blue' color.

It's actually a color change that flows, from different shades of purplish/red/magenta to shades of blue. And as I have always loved the different versions of Stones tongues, I love the way that the blue color of the tongue blends in with the left side completely, to where you cannot make out the shape of the tongue, i.e. on the lower left side.

And I highly doubt it was just 'thrown together' like this. This color scheme is similar to what many companies are now using, it seems to be a trend to have darkened colors that flow from one to another for company logos (my own company coincidentally has a new logo with a similar flow and colors as the new album cover). I would have to assume this was run by some marketing firm, and this was probably a suggestion to use optimal visual color palettes, for maximum visual effect.

So, I am sure many will still say this was done with little thought and/or imagination ... but considering that everything the Stones have done in the past 35 years has been thought out with maximizing profits as much as possible, I am certain that wasn't the case.

And again, I love it!
