Forget about Bill.

Agreed, his guest appearance in 2012 only made Honky Tonk and IORR sound tired and dull. Darryl is just the kind of groovemaster they need right now.

eye rolling smileyeye rolling smileyeye rolling smileyeye rolling smiley We were obviously at different concerts, yes Bill didn't add anything per se but they didnt by any means sound tired and dull. In all honesty they sounded no different at Hyde Park 2013 than they did in the O2 2012.

They sounded fresh and sparkling during 2014/15.
The first gigs in 2012 were not that great, but they improved remarkably in 2013.
In 2016 they were absolutely awesome.
(Disclaimer: All my judgements are based on youtube-clips and fan-made-DVD´s)

And that had nothing to with Bill.
It was nervousness from Keith, being older and off from concerts for +5 years.

they are definitely laying down some blues-

mick has a danelectro on the far right and another old guitar in the middle that looks like a blues guitar.can somone identify that thing?the blue/grey oddly shaped one between the two fenders..

i don't think the danelectro is the one he used for "back of my hand"it's one of those black and white ones like Page uses, but it' a blues guitar without a doubt.

I think the guitar in the middle was used for Moonlight Mile on the Zip Code tour.

The Danelectro is probably for slide playing.

Regardless of what's actually going on (new blues album, rehearsing some old gems, mixing up the set list a bit(wishful thinking))- the Stones are true masters at generating hype. They make it seem really casual but I have to think all these hints, images, vague quote from band members, etc are all masterfully calculated.

Again, different ears. What little I've been able to glean from Bill's appearance in 2012 on YouTube, it sounds like the band has a little more swing than usual.

It's a matter of taste but IMO Bill was perfect for the rough, blistering shows they did until 1982. Darryl Jones is a better fit for the ''Vegas Era'', any 1997 HTW has more groove and punch than HTW had with Bill in 1990.
