Jungleland from MSG, a multi-cam mix with soundboard audio.

I always hated people singing along

On that particular song, the crowd singing a certain part of the song (the "tonight in Jungleland" part before the piano outro) is a tradition. Same with "Thunder Road" and "Hungry Heart", for example.

Bruce Springsteen Contracts COVID and Misses His Archives’ Inaugural Awards Show, but Presents Via Video

The inaugural American Music Honors awards show — a fundraiser for the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University — launched Saturday night without two very important presenters in attendance: Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa.

Bob Santelli, the Archives’ executive director, broke the news that the Springsteens were both diagnosed with COVID-19 just hours after Springsteen took a final bow Friday night at the Prudential Center, wrapping the first part of his 2023 tour with the E Street Band.

Hi friends, where do you get Springsteen news from now?
Backstreets was my “go to” place, “greasy lake” is a bit too much of a forum.

Backstreets' BTX Springsteen forum, the largest of that fan community, closes tomorrow. I was BothernMeMyWholeLife, and on it for less than a year. I just made my final post there, on the forum's closing announcement thread. It was:

_________

Although I've been a Springsteen fan since 1975 when I was 20, I've never been a hardcore follower of him, my other rock & roll favorites the Rolling Stones, or anyone, really, in any field of human endeavor. I do have many heroes, but the world has always held too many wonders to obsess but so intensively on any one of them. There are too many other people out there also doing fascinating things that have warranted my attention and deserved some of my limited time on earth.

I've seen Bruce six times now. 1978, twice in 1981, and 1985. Then not again until 2016, and once so far in 2023. I'll see him a seventh time in August, and I expect that will be all for me.

Investing too much of your life's focus on any one figure appears to have the potential to leave one emotionally devastated when one finally realizes that most of our heroes actually have feet of clay.

I'm glad now that I only joined BTX less than 11 months ago and that this is only my 138th post here.

Let what the owner of this site is now doing be a warning to us all regarding social media. He didn't create this site's content by himself. Thousands of people invested their own precious time into it as well. BUT only one person actually OWNS it. And he, in an act of extreme personal bitterness, is now, for all practical purposes, destroying what everybody has done here. The work of thousands of people, much of it admittedly trivial, but part of it actually beneficial to others, will no longer be accessible beginning tomorrow.

It's a selfish and, it seems to me, meanspirited choice he's made, to refuse to allow anyone else to take over and carry on with this forum.

But let it underscore what we already knew. Mark Zuckerberg, much more than you do, has control and ownership of the work you've put into your postings on FB. Ditto Musk, on Twitter. We're entrusting people we do not really know and don't truly have good reason to trust, whenever we pour our efforts into any of their platforms.

Best wishes to all.

I don't think there is a consensus destination. Beyond Brucebase or Greasy Lake, other places suggested for BTX refugees include

A Springsteen sub-Reddit

Stone Pony London

I kinda had a feeling BTX would be gone after the first US leg, so no surprise really.

I posted there as "Topi" sometimes, but mostly lurked. I'm in a couple of Springsteen-related Facebook groups, those will have to do for now. Might check out SPL and Greasy Lake as well, but perhaps not planning to join any new message boards at the moment.

It's been a wild past 8 hours over at BTX. Chris Phillips, who owns it, finally came on the forum to say goodbye to all in a personal message. And apparently he had legitimately not heard that on the forum we had been calling since February for the forum to be handed off to someone else to operate and keep open, while the "Backstreets" site/magazine proper proceeds to close permanently.

11:30 PM April 20 he writes that he's not opposed to that... even as it's all scheduled to shut down 5 PM EST Friday April 21.

There may bave just been a stay of execution for the largest Springsteen fan forum's closure later today.

Stay tuned.

Oh, BTW, Barcelona tickets (incl. pit) were dropped the other day. Expect the same for other Europe shows as well.

BTX lives on for at least another week while Chris talks with prospective new owner-operators of the forum.

(I try to imagine Bjornulf being mere hours from nuking IORR forever, all the while not even knowing others were clamoring to take it over and carry it on. And, nope, can't imagine it at all. Be that as it may, my thanks to Chris for reconsidering.)

Been to Barcelona only once in my life... one might say a while ago. Summer 1973, I was an 18 yo Naval ROTC midshipman, just completed my freshman year of college, and was on a training cruise on the USS Manitowoc, a tank landing ship. Barcelona was a port of call. Beautiful city... and crazy affordable then. It was still Franco's Spain. We met some Spanish girls -- Catalonian, actually, they stressed -- and I first learned of Spanish nightlife.

Around 4 AM I was tiring out. But a song roused me, ended my fatigue in and instant, and I was back out on the dance floor.

Brown Sugar.

With HT Women still one of my two favorite Stones songs.

Many people's Stones favorites seem to be from the time period in their youth when they first discovered the Stones. That is definitely the case with me.

In mid-1973 Springsteen of course wasn't really a thing yet outside of North Jersey, a few NY clubs, and his second stomping ground, the only other place he could draw crowds, Richmond VA.

If in Barcelona, go to Boadas cocktail bar just off Las Ramblas! You will not be disappointed.

Bruce didn't take much of a break before the European tour. Will be interesting to see how the setlists are over there.
