Most acts focus on their core group of fans; Stones have built their second careers on the casual and/or big event fan.
I vary from awe at what they've built, to disappointment they weren't more adventurous.
For example, the discussion about 'Slave' makes you realize they could have done some shows based around their B&B funk songs, along with Just My Imagination and Motown covers, Beast of Burden, the reggae Start Me Up, some of their early R&B/soul covers and just killed it. Brought in some top notch session men and/or guests to help out, released a live album. It would have been incredible.
They could have done shows built around their C/W songs. Or a punk rock live set. Again, with unique live albums. So many lost opportunities.

...Roman Gabriel wore #18, so are the Stones going only play 18 songs when they reach the L.A. area?

If they shortened the 8 minutes songs to 5½ and the 12½ minute song (MR) to 8 they would make room for at least 5 more songs...

Mkjan is correct. Everyone knows that 19 is the perfect number of songs. 20 is one too many and 18 is one too few.

In 2016 it was 18 songs. So I'm cool with 19 songs.
Anyway, this thread will be merged in the setlist discussion thread soon and that's where it belongs

That was one show only .... when Jagger was suffering with vocal issues.
Since 1978,the only concerts with any fewer than 19 songs were Vegas 2016 and Chicago 2006 and warm-up club shows and the private hired shows.
If 19 songs are all they can do at this point, fine but,it was better with more .... which meant more room for album tracks.

There were quite a few shows during the Ole' Tour 2016 with only 18 songs in the setlist.
*Vegas '16 was also only 18 songs due to Mick being sick as you say (first Vegas show flat out cancelled for same reason), and that was right after both Desert Trip shows which had 20 songs each.

To be sure, not everyone knows, as other posts in this thread attest, but 19 is still the best.
