I agree with you. I was also in line all day. The Stones management or security team could have sent someone out or relayed a message to say early on "Sorry guys, this is basically an industry show, if you don't have tickets, we will not be able to get you in."
This would have been a nice gesture on their part and it would have saved us 8+ hours of standing in line for nothing. Surely at least by 7:00pm or so they knew they weren't letting anyone in, yet nobody came out and said anything. Their fans who were willing to take off from work and stand outside all day probably deserved something like this. Between the line at the El Rey (which I was in) and the line at the Fonda (which I was also in), there were 300 or so fans waiting in line for the chance to see them. When no annoucements are made to the contrary, you keep thinking there is a chance to get in if you keep waiting patiently. Out of these 300+, I saw only ONE person make it in to the venue (the guy with the hat who was in front of the line all day). Some of us waited until the show was halfway over still thinking there was a chance since so many people were leaving the venue, yet still no entries allowed.
I know we aren't owed anything, I'm just saying it would have been a nice gesture on their part to "release" the line if they had no intention of letting anyone in.
On to San Diego....

Do you think the periscope-thing means that the concert today gets streamed?
Seems logical to me because what else should they stream if not the concert?
(rehearsals are maybe finished already)
If they do a stream I will stand up in the middle of the night to watch it (and if it's available on the computer I'll try to record it)
Stonesnews.com writes:
"Apparently, there's a filmcrew at the theatre and maybe there is a broadcast later [thx paperposter, sdb]. That could point less to a simple warm-up gig but more to a kind of DVD production or something. The filming is done by JA Digital from London, UK."
Do you think they want money for the stream?
I think about buying a iTunes Gift Card to be prepared if it's an in-app-purchase.
But I also wonder what is the point to do professional filming on a warm-up gig. It's called a "warm-up gig" because it's a warm up for the tour - sure they are a little bit rusty since their last concert was in november. Wouldn't it make more sence to do a filming towards the end of the tour? I saw there are more free days during the concerts than it was on the last tour.
On periscope the streams are free, you can't charge for Periscope.
Someone was asking earlier about what's special about Periscope. It's that you can stream from any iPhone. This means that if any IORRians get into the club show, they could literally stream the show to us (unless phones are confiscated of course.)
For the Maryweather prizefight HBO streamed on Periscope from the locker room of one of the fighters, let's hope the Stones do something like that.
The fact the Stones set up an account this week means, I think, they will be using it, probably today. how they do so I have no idea. There are 34,000 people currently subscribing to them on Periscope (yesterday it was just 10,000) so clearly something is up.

I have some marginal connections, and they failed me. Yet I got in by pure luck, and it had nothing to do with connections.

hey everybody,
i don’t post very much, but i do read this fun threads and this is my experience with last night show…
i was there at the fonda in the morning to get tickets, i was there at el rey (pick up location to get tickets) to try to get lucky with tickets too, and i was there at the fonda during the show, without any luck to get in.
although im sure the show was amazing, this was not cater to fans… it was a private party for their invites… i’m not saying this angry, i’m not even whinning, but let’s say things the way they are… let’s not trick ourselves… you can debate if the stones owe their fans anything or nothing… but the point is that 99.9% of the people that go in… 1) have some insider that help them get tickets 2) were willing to pay big bucks to get in.
the whole online sale was bullshit… probably only 10 people got tickets that way… i was there at el rey and witness the wristband/ticket pick up from the online sale… those picking up were people inside the music industry, or with some insiders, etc etc…. they weren’t the fans trying to go online and get a ticket.. I even know some of them since I live in LA.
99.9% of the fans that try really hard to get in from early in the morning (like myself) were wondering outside without a ticket when the show started… were we all so unlucky although we all try so hard to get a ticket??
I say again, I’m not whinning, or angry,… but let’s just call things as they are… this was NOT a 5 dollar ticket show for lucky fans who got online in time. That was a bullshit PR/marketing thing… You can thing that’s wrong, you can think that’s right… but let’s agree on that
cheers and see you in San Diego.

I somehow trust what they say and have no doubt this was one of the best modern day Stones shows ever. I think it was probably one of those "you had to be there" experiences. I doubt it will truly be captured by the film and recording, even it we get the whole un-edited show.
peace
But how can one of the best moderns Stones shows ever not be made justice by a recording?
Other audience recorded club gigs such as the one at Cirkus in Stockholm on the Licks tour, sounds phenomenal on recording and makes you understand how fantastic the show must have been.
If this Fonda Theatre gig cannot sound fantastic on recording, then it simply wasn't one of their best gigs.

Ugh, stop whining, I slept on the street in Toronto in '05, was in line for 14 hours and didn't get in to the Phoenix (although they did let a few more fans into the show after it started.) Any Stones fan who knows these shows, knows it's a damn miracle if you get in. Stop acting so surprised that it mostly VIPs.

Say what you want but something is extremely wrong when spoiled models and celebrities leaving a show like this after 15-20 minutes.

According to several eyewitnesses outside the venue MANY people left early long before the show was over.

syrelI never heard an announcement. When I finally made it close to the front around 9pm I heard a security guard respond directly to someone's question where he said something like "I don't know why you are all here, you aren't getting in." That is what needed to be said much earlier in the day. This would have been a perfect spot to make use of their social media. They could have tweeted a message saying "sorry to the fans outside, we are all full."Quote

They did say that, several times - and we didn't believe them! We stayed on in hope, even though we knew there wasn't much chance.
There were tv cameras and helicopters undoubtedly showing the lineup of fans waiting to get in. Its almost like they wanted us to be standing there to hype up their event.
OK, enough ranting...this will all be somewhat forgotten if they put out a DVD for the show!

Geeee, the ungratefulness of some of the fans on this board!
They could have made this show 100% private and didn't. They included some fans. They invited fans to their rehearsals during last tour. They invited back Mick Taylor for a while. They've added the choir on YCAGWYW. But it's never enough, is it?
We should be glad these old guys are still around to play so well!

So since we have been talking about all the celebrities who were there, let's hear some names. Who was there? There were tons of paparazzi across the street waiting to take pics.

Now.... I wonder if any of the cats that were hanging around out front and asking here about it got in for any part of the show... I was hoping for them the whole time. I wonder if they did?
I was pretty much at the front of the 'just in case' line up at Fonda until 9.15 - no one got in (as far as I know), except for one or two that were able to benefit from favours/connections.
syrel
I stayed until the end of the show. The crowd continued to thin out and I was the very last one to walk away. As far as I could tell, not one person got in who was hoping for a miracle ticket. I couldn't even find a scalper. It was a long, sad drive back to San Diego.
Sorry to hear that cats :( but if you did your best and it didnt work out.... then at least you own your story. You were there and you did what you could and waited until you were the very last person to walk away. That is admirable. A sad story, but a good story to have as your own.
Sometimes our stories of when things did not work out are the best stories. You have my admiration for what you did and hopefully in the long run you will get paid your due for your efforts.
Good job on trying. If I had been as close as San Diego I would have done what you did too with probably the same results and this is what I would saying to myself right now. All we can do is what we can do.
Have fun at opening night, it will be a blast.
