I like Short and Curlies. It's great to play at bachelor parties.

Also, do you have any favorite tracks, live Mick Taylor played on with the Stones in 2012, 2013, & 2014?

Then decide on the best of the 54 Midnight Ramblers (one way into that is the 40 that have been reviewed (so far) here: [gimmemt.com]). There are embedded links there to videos for most of the songs for easy reference.

For MR, a good start would be all four 2012 shows with MT, and also Glastonbury and the Hyde Parks.

Like Bill Wyman said: "Never go back to your ex. It doesn't work"

And yet, he returned to the studio for HACKNEY DIAMONDS...

So did Taylor, for the PMS session. thumbs up

Spanish A Minor is a great track. He should have stayed in the band and done instrumental albums with tracks like this on the side.Maybe a track like this , Mick and Keith might have worked on it , added lyrics and editing to it, and released it on a Stones album

Listening to it now and his playing really sounds Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia-ish. Really interesting. I know he guested with the Dead before, but this really feels like him playing in that style. Totally different way than I think of him with the Stones, but maybe his playing is the same but the Stones songs themselves were just so different.

He really just sounds like a guitar player who can beautifully play anything and has a lot going on in his head. But he needs to be reined in if he wants to be commercial or mainstream. Its hard to kinda be that Jeff Beck sorta guy and have a career.

It's a fun jaunt, but it really is scraping the barrel to be included on an album, just ask Andy Johns (RIP).

What I like most about it is that it showcases the fact Keef can aimlessly noodle over an entire song and get away with it. smileys with beer

I've always liked this one. However, the production on this album is not up to par, imo.

Very nice!

As far as the production:

I've heard a few people don't like the Fender Rhodes (either authentic or a patch on a keyboard) Max Middleton plays on this. It's an electric piano and really doesn't scream RnR or blues. Had I produced this album, I would have put Max on an acoustic piano and/or organ for the entire album.

A Rhodes is excellent for jazz, RnB, or hip hop IMO

Also funny is during the bridge, when Taylor keeps on strumming when he shouldn't. One of the rare occasions he and Keith laugh at each other.

There’s a version from Stones in Exile where Jagger says “come in when you feel it Mick.” If only they let it play a little longer

There are lots of teasers in regard to that in Stones recordings. Like Taylor just about to begin to take the solo into other dimension, they tune him down... Like showing off 'see, we have this ace here, but we keep the tiger at the cage...' But that leaves one to want more...grinning smiley

Live Taylor took more freedoms, but studio is a tough place to shine... 'Songs first, songs first', say the bosses...

High quality complete show of Mick backed by Snowy White's band in 1995. The opening number "You Gotta Move" starts out great but overstays its welcome (in my opinion)...Snowy gets a few licks in.

What's on my mind concerning Mick Taylor? "Winter" – a song with three chords, a simple progression, D, A, E, What Mick Taylor gets out of this chord progression! Every note is right, even the quiet ones. Whenever I listen to this song, I'm almost overwhelmed! Yesterday was that time again. But don't forget, the magic of the song is also due to the great rhythm guitar of the other Mick.

Said differently : 'hey we do not need a Jimmy Page clone in our band'.

I am pretty sure Mick and Keith held in absolute contempt bands that played looong tracks with loooong guitar solos in them, like Zep or Pink Floyd.

And even live MT was held on a leash : listen to 73 aud tapes : there are quite a few instances where Jagger started to shout 'yeah yeah' over a MT solo, which was a way to say : 'okay boy enough already'.

What is the version of LC that they’re playing to in that clip? Is it an extended mix of the record? Steel drums are louder and many more Nicky Hopkins fills.

An early mix with less backing vocals?

Could be. Then again, Clydie King is more prominent.

Noted as Loving Cup IV by Nico Zentgraf, longer in duration with different vocal mix. Nico notes that on version V backup singing is by Gram Parson, which is not true.
