That's not probably the wisest thing to do. Surely some people can do that with no problem, but many times is better to have someone to watch over, make suggestions, kick ass, etc. Even the big boys with enormous egos, vision and self-confidence - Mick and Keith - are aware of that.smiling smiley

The "kick ass" factor was probably essential with MT, who apparently tended to procrastinate, so to speak.
RE the Twins imho they had another asset which led to finished albums in due time : the fact that more often they were at war with each other once they decided to record a Lp...
Which translated into : "hey I'll record guitar parts that'll stun this sob singer". And from the other side : "I'll bring 40 song ideas to Mister 5-strings wonder and that'll shut him up". grinning smiley

Taylor has to play on stage, not in the studio. Bogus is not his game, if you get my point.

It's all just symptomatic of who MT is.

As a musician, and probably as a person, he's the type who needs a framework provided by somebody or something else in order to give of his best.

He's never been best equipped to "plough his own furrow".

[And this isn't criticism, it's just how some folks are... and it's trait I've often recognised in myself down the years.]

Any info on Mick's new recording that came out on March 3?

The only thing I know comes from Nico Zentgraf's page

A CD with Hawkestrel (a group comprising various ex-members of Hawkwind) to be released on April.

I find on Discogs more info about the album "Chaos Rocks" (to be released on April):

Songs with Mick Taylor:
- Evil Rock (2023 AD)
- Class One Kid

and not "Evil Song", the one avialble to download.

So this is a brandnew recording - so Taylor's not totally retired?

Out now:

Jack Bruce
Smiles & Grins: Broadcast Sessions 1970 - 2001
4 CDs, 2 Blu-ray Audio

The set includes all of Jack's surviving BBC radio and TV appearances between 1970 and 2001, as well as a wonderful unbroadcast session recorded by Lifetime for the German TV show Beat Club (with Tony Williams, John McLaughlin and Larry Young) around the time of the album "Turn it Over".

The BBC material includes two legendary In Concert recordings. The first concert dates from 1971 (with friends Chris Spedding, Graham Bond, John Marshall and Art Themen) and is included in its entirety with the full 18-minute version of "Powerhouse Sod" presented for the first time on CD.

The second concert dates from 1977 and features the band Jack put together for the album "How's Tricks".

Also included are both audio and video recordings of the 1975 Old Grey Whistle Test special concert featuring Jack's band with Carla Bley, Mick Taylor, Ronnie Leahy and Bruce Gary. The set also includes a 1981 concert recorded for The Old Grey Whistle Test, a 1982 TV appearance and the complete Jazz in Britain sessions from 1971 and 1978 with Jack Bruce, Jon Hiseman and John Surman as well as a 2001 session for Later with Jools Holland.

"Smiles & Grins" is the most comprehensive collection of Jack's sessions ever released. It includes an illustrated booklet and an essay - a fitting tribute to the musical legacy of Jack Bruce, an unforgotten master of his craft.
Reviews
"Jack Bruce was as terrific an instrumentalist as he was a composer [...] consistently strong, the line-ups impressive." (GoodTimes, February/March 2024)

It sounds 7-tees Taylor to me, maybe something laying on the shelf, or copy and paste?

But you never know of course.

My guess -as far as Taylor is involved- years ago. Unless he has seen the light again.

I can’t nail the date and this is what I found:
It began five years ago with the forward-looking "The Future Is Us" album as a HAWKWIND offshoot, yet since then Alan Davey’s HAWKESTREL project proved to be a solid enterprise that, to the date, delivered two more platters and are ready to launch – on April 12th, on International Day of Human Space Flight, under the title of “Chaos Rocks” – their fourth. Traditionally star-studded, this record features a few unexpected guests, such as the former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor: yes, the guitarist took part in a "Pioneers Of Space" track and now expanded his presence to two cuts, one finding him in the company of Bob Calvert and the other of Nik Turner, both dead for years.

Something that kinda comes up all the time, but I'm listening to some of the Midnight Ramblers from the 50 And Counting tour and just smiling ear to ear. Yes, Mick Taylor was not used correctly on that tour, yes he's arguably not even really given enough space in his one spot during Rambler. BUT its cool to hear that, if for just one song every single night, the Rolling Stones really felt like those dangerous unpredictable Rolling Stones again. It feels so evident coming after hearing a Sympathy For The Devil on that tour and it just feels so lifeless to me. Same with Miss You. Very going through the motions. That no matter what, for 12 minutes, every night of that tour, they brought out Mick Taylor and Mick Jagger and co. couldn't QUITE predict what they were going to get. And the audience got to see a real band up there jamming. Not in any way a criticism of the current band, I've seen shows as recently as a few years ago and they are still great. But its really cool that in such a rehearsed show, for as little as it was, they got to bring Taylor out to rock it out in such an unbridled way again. Absolutely never would have expected that to happen every night for a couple years time.

Yes I wish it turned out differently but happy we got it at all. I think everyone in the band got a big kick out of it every night.

I enjoyed MT's presence for Rambler too ...and he certainly added something

...but we always get that rolling back of the years when they play that song.

That's why it should always be n the setlist

- Class One Kid (Alan Darvey)
Line-up 'Class One Kid': MT (gtr)/Alan Davey (bass, gtr, mellotron, synth, dr,

I used my app. to isolate an acoustic guitar on Waiting on a Friend .You can clearly hear the acoustic guitar , especially after 2.29.So there are at least two maybe 3 guitars on the song plus the bass which Taylor may have played
