It was the best CYHMK by the band I've heard since the studio version. No need to comment on the ingredients, as the whole was so strong, imo.

Yeah Ronnie's tones were indeed great last night as were Keith's. Ronnie did a fine job all night. He really didn't stretch like Taylor would have and CYHMK was actually one of the few tunes where MT could have taken it further and was missed.

But, for those that missed last night because of Taylor's absence all I can say is you missed a great Stones show and I would advise to try to catch another one on the tour. Taylor fans are generally guitar-centric types and the guitars were sounding especially good. The push and pull of the musicians against each other made up for the dazzling solos and MT musicianship and really brought out the best of the songs and the special dynamics which make the Stones so great.

In retrospect, the looser jammy feel they had last night would have been a perfect platform for Taylor's playing but they rocked hard without him. None of the Taylor fans in my group walked away with a "if only he had been there" feeling, and that's pretty amazing knowing them. But, I'm still holding out hope he will be a guest on some future shows in Europe.

Yes, same passable solo as his previous attempts but there's really no point in comparing it with what Taylor offered in 2013, apples and oranges, raw musicianship and talent vs good natured journeyman, something that does the job vs something that elevates the song and the other musicians.

Same goes for MR [www.youtube.com] where instead of the risk taking soloing by Taylor, San Diego got Wood clowning around on the center ramp for 20 seconds, oh and Jagger pushed him around to get him to do something prior to that. Inconceivable for him to do that with Taylor, certainly a more relaxed anything goes, "good fun" atmosphere.

Yeah, it went nowhere. I'm no guitar genius but even I could hear that. He even f^cked up and went into the end bit early, then had to recover and vamp till the actual end. Ronnie has many highlights these days, but this was not one of them.

In literature you would call such a figure the "retarding element" and it's part of the buildup of a drama. And a solo that leads into a final riff clearly goes somewhere.

As far as I know a certain MT played on the original studio version.That might be reason enough.

Just listened to the MR video. Good heavens what a difference with the ones with Taylor! Any Stones cover band could produce this version easily. Amateurish and very weak.

I don't get it really, they are playing the same setlist type since 2012, and from yesterday show, MT played on 4 songs on this tour: CYHMK, Slipping Away, MR and Satisfaction.
Its a mystery to me.

Stoneburst, maybe because this Knocking - and MR as well - show what a huge difference it indeed makes if Taylor is included or not on those songs. It's so conspicuous.

Both versions were highlights of the show. MM as well. It makes no sense to try to degrade those versions, as we heard them in good quality via an audio stream.

Okay.

But I disagree totally with you concerning those 'highlights' (though I must say Jagger and Chuck didn't a bad job on MM) and I compared those two songs with the same sort of videos from the previous world tour. They just showed me the staggering difference in quality.
