If you book a hotel with a serious hotel chain then they will never change your originally booked rate. The booking is a written agreement between you and the hotel. You have a guaranteed price and it is being held by your credit card guarantee.

Book directly with the hotels or book through hotels.com. Make sure you are able to cancel up to 24 hours before. It cost you a little bit more but not much. You will pay exactly what the confirmation sheet is saying, otherwise you are using the "wrong" supplier.

WRONG. Use a travel agent who works for you...

NOT WRONG Dreamtime: Gave up travel agent years ago. They never got me any deals and charged me $50 - $100 every time I used them. I understand that if you have a business then agent is necessary to control pricing and coordinating several flights and rooms/day. We have 350 employee's so we have an agency we use. But when I book my own travel no real value added. Sorry, not knocking your profession but....

I booked the Pfister on March 15 and have received no such e-mail. I don't remember seeing a pop-up box either, although it could have been there and I didn't notice.

we are all unsmart and unsuccessful if we dont use a travel agent tho

My travel agent retired early...15 years ago!
Too bad, SHE WAS HOT!

All the advice to use 'travel agents' to get a guarantee sounds a bit 'self serving'.

Agreed. Haven't used a travel agent since the pre-internet dark ages.

smart people (and successful people) use a travel agent because it's a phone call to someone who knows you. An agent with experience that was referred to you. There is no additional cost for hotels. Let me know the next time the OTA's (online travel agency's) let you know of construction next to your hotel. Once you have a trusted travel agent (like any profession) all you have to do is call and say something like "I'm going to The Stones in Milwaukee. Please confirm a room for me and my wife. You know what I like. Thank-you." AND YOU'RE DONE!

I don't buy it. Smart people use their own intuition and research and don't need anyone making their decisions.

Sorry, you'd have to be an antiquated dolt to need a travel agent in this day and age. There's this fancy new thing now called trip advisor, with millions of recommendations. There are no shortage of reviews on any hotel and you will definitely find out if there is construction, etc. Besides, where do you think your travel agent gets their info? Expedia is more than capable of keeping a travel profile as well, with room preferences, airlines etc.

I have a free dedicated travel concierge as part of the benefits included with my AmeX Centurion Card (Black Card) and I still book my travel myself online.

before i was a travel agent i booked all my travel myself and then went to my travel agent and have him/her book it for me. same price. and now i have an agent on my side for free. i had discussions with tripadvisor's ceo and they know reviews can be faked. they sell travel now so they lost their unbiased credibility. all the OTA's belong to 2 different parent companies. is that who you want to support? what will happen when you have no choice? and it turns out that besides successful people, the tech savvy millennials are the biggest demographic group using travel agents. good travel agents like myself don't get information from tripadvisor or other review sites. I have personal experience in 86 countries and if i need more info i can turn to a fellow agent for factual information. agents don't TELL you where to stay. AND THIS IS THE LAST GREAT FREE SERVICE IN THE WORLD...

yeah, but then you have to talk to someone, and if they're not immediately available, your on hold, or waiting for a call back, or leaving a voice message.

By that time I've been able to find the ABSOLUTE lowest price and booked it and printed out my confirmation. As far as the 'construction' next to your hotel, I guess I'll take my chances that most websites actually list if there are issues, and how would your travel agent know anyway unless they just returned from a trip.

There is a reason why there are fewer travel agents. Oh and BTW did I mention lower price?

any price you see online a travel agent can book. did you know expedia pays commission to agents. why? because they know your travel agent can provide better customer service. period.

Travel agents are a luxury. With all the internet services available it is usually just as easy for me to book my own accommodations...for most domestic travel.

But I don't undervalue the ability of a good travel agent to book stuff to exotic locations, where I'm unfamiliar with the local problems and customs; and to be more aware of special deals and packages which may be available.

If you like spending the time planning your trip you can certainly do it these days but if the planning is complex and deals with unfamiliar locations there are still potential benefits to letting someone who does this for a living do it for you, imo.

peace

so if you had a bad lawyer once you would never use a lawyer again? you should find a better professional. ask a successful person for a referral.

Travel Agents are dinosaurs for things like booking one-off hotel rooms. You do not need them at all.

Thanks.

advice .... book your accommodation with booking.com the best, affordable, pay at the hotel with no advances or nasty surprises that price rises and you can cancel till 24 hours before, only serves the credit card as a guarantee, no advances and price increases, if you want .....

NO. Use a travel agent who works for you...

Like I posted previously...the last time I used booking.com for Comfort Suites the counter person told me he could have given me a better rate, my Choice points plus an AAA/CAA autoclub discount of 10% if I had phoned the hotel direct. You don't get those discounts on-line...

your a bit delusional...they pay a commission to get the sale, that is all. if they need to pay someone to get the sale from Luddites that refuse to enter the new millennium, they will but it wouldn't be their preferred modus operandi.

And I do agree there are times when using an agent is beneficial, be it for coordinating corporate travel for groups, or where the trip is complex, local rules/laws need to be considered or any time where advice is useful.

Booking a flight or hotel got yourself to Vegas, Milwaukee, New York, Toronto etc. doesn't fall into that realm.

So, as has been asked, let's not talk about this anymore...I appreciate you're a travel agent but understand you have a vested interested in trying to convince us, whereas we've all used travel agents in the past, and prefer to book our own travel. It's faster, more convenient and cheaper, and guaranteed.

its a good bet that this entire problem was caused by that idiot mayor of nashville karl dean.

the slick little lawyer/mayor tried to pull a fast one and hijack the stones annoucement by running in front of the cameras and telling the world"the stones are playing nashville" as soon as the hard dates were released.

this would have at least put him as the face of the stones tour stop in nashville on the local news and if it was picked up by the national media his mug would've been everywhere-"the stones are playing live and nashvilles mayor couildnt be happier"....

it might not seem like a big deal but jagger is f'n meticulous about how the band is presented to the media.
when they played the trump casino in 89 there was a press conference with donald trump beeming in front of the cameras.."we're so glad to have...blah blah blah...legends blah blah...here's the rolling stones" and he's standing there with that dumb comb-over waiting and nobody shows up...finally they send someone to tell him"donald you have to go sit down before the stones come to the podium"....trump was fuming, but he sat his ass down while the stones talked to the press."

nice try with the hijack mayor but next time pick another, less media savvy band.the ggod news is we'll probably see the boys in front of the camera themselves.
