Tumbling Dice from Brussels is awesome too, especially the ending

Whip Comes Down from Sucking in the '70s is up there as far as officially released stuff goes.

I must say I agree. I prefer the longer version from the FM broadcasts and it's too bad this version does not have the Brown/Rockefeller verse but the interplay between Keith and Woody is exceptional.

MIDNIGHT RAMBLER-From Brussels 1973. Hands down.

My second favorite live track is All Down the Line from Philly 1972

Jumpin' Jack Flash has so many good versions, the Texas '78 is a great jam and I love the fast version from '72 and '73.

Satisfaction from Ya Ya's is awesome as well.

Tough to nail down one live favorite and so many good ones have been mentioned here. My favorite though, without question is Rambler from Brussels.

Gimme Shelter in the small Paradiso church was a dream.
Just as Street Fighting Man, Monkey Man, Still A Fool, Down In The Bottom, Angie, Sweet Virginia, Dead Flowers, Shine A Light...but especially Like A Rolling Stone since that was the first time they played it for an audience.
Before that? Satisfaction in Charlie Is My Darling...very energetic.

Ok, in no order:

That's How Strong My Love Is: Live Licks
Midnight Rambler: Brussels Affair
Fingerprint File: LA Forum
Little Red Rooster: Love you Live
Tumbling Dice: Rarities (is it live, I wonder)
Jumpin' Jack Flash: Ya Yas

It starts with the run from Rip This Joint through JJF to SFM - wonderful 3 songs full speed on.

If you want to throw in "Greatest Stones Live Magic Moment Songs" as a related category, then:

Just My Imagination from Hampton 1981. They decide to improvise on the spot (presumably) and turn it into this amazing extended jam.

There are many others of course that deserve honourable mention:

Brown Sugar from Brussels. You can feel the electricity in the air. No video either and it doesn't matter.
Honky Tonk Woman and Street Fighting Man from Gimme Shelter.
Brown Sugar, All Down the Line and YCAGWYW from Ladies and Gentlemen.
The T.A.M.I. show.
Little Queenie from GYYYO.
The new Satisfaction clip from the re-release of GYYYO.
Jumping Jack Flash from Rock'n'Roll Circus (the last performance by the 'true' Rolling Stones.)

Street Fighting Man from Ya Ya's. - such power, you can feel the electricity as it builds.

I have always preferred Street Fighter from 1972 Philly or from Brussels over the 69 versions.

I have to go with Midnight Rambler from Ya Yas. I never tire of listening to it. It is because the '69 tour was a radical departure from all other tours they had done. They were taking risks musically, playing new material, they were breaking in their new, young guitarist, who dramatically changed their sound, and they played this long, creative, dark song called Midnight Rambler, with several tempo changes and disturbing lyrics. By the time they got to Brussels they had perfected it. But on Ya Yas, it was still raw, unrefined, and they even made a couple of musical mistakes on it. It was new, fresh, brilliant, and it remains my favorite live recording. I think it epitomized what the '69 tour was all about.

I have to go with the Brussels boot performance of TD, but I might be quibbling. Dave's comments about the '69 tour are spot on. He saw the 3rd live performance of MR. I saw the 4th. Can you imagine hearing that song performed and NOT know what's coming? The band's controlled restraint and the stealthy sexiness of that tour's performances gave us the quintessential performances of that song (and many others as well). It was a magic moment in the band's history.

On the 69 version of Rambler there's an more interesting build up after "the one you've never seen before" and before final part of the song. From 72 on it just kind of "cuts" to the fast part. I don't remember how they played that part on the 71 version.

Midnight Rambler Brussels, for sure! Followed by anything from the Mocambo club.

Imagination from December 19, 1981 (Hampton, second show) is surely a contender as well.

1. Sympathy - Ya Ya's

2. Miss you - Handsome Girls 78 disk 1. 9min 30 and the guitar is mind blowing

for a fantastic studio jam I would also recommend Miss you on the complete Woodstock Tapes 17min 48sec

Love it, Miss You is a great choice! I also love Beast of Burden from the same show. I remember hearing for the first time and I was blown away!

Cheers,
Wuudy

The version of Happy from l&G gets my vote. Yeah I know its overdubbed or whatever but it's a fantastic track nonetheless. When I saw it on 25x5 many years ago, it got me into collecting boots and wondering why this great live stuff had never been released.
