Members of The Who are playing a charity show at a smallish Theater in Rosemont IL. Tickets are surprisingly still available on ticketmaster. Many guest stars
Including Eddie Vedder, Joan Jett, Rick Neilson and Joe Walsh. The show is tonight(Thursday, May 14th)If you are a fan and live in the area this show is a must. The cause is the fight against teenage cancer. See you there!

That is just stupidity. Alan Rogan must have given Pete the wrong tuning or capo position. This tech is one of the most respected people in the music industry, acting like that is an embarrassment to a man that has given his life's work to players like PT and the guitar world in general. Very few people have kind words about PT. Roger he's ok and John was a sweet person. They're all grossly extravagant

My thoughts too. What a spoiled pampered brat Pete has become. Looks like the guitar was cutting out to me (same tuning and capo position on the new one)...he easily could have signaled for a new axe without all the drama, plenty of time to stretch the intro a few seconds. Looking at how his tech almost cowers while handing him another guitar makes me think Pete can be a nasty piece of work when he's angry. For someone who recently claimed his anger issues are behind him I'd say he still has some work to do.

If he wants to be an ass off the stage it's his business but when I'm paying to see a performance that kind of crap is unwelcome. Reminds me of Axl Rose.....

peace

I went to the charity show Thursday night. Here's the Rolling Stone review:

Simon led off. Voice kind of reminded me of Phil Collins. The two songs he did by himself were ok. He's a fine guitarist. (It must be tough being incredibly talented, and relying on your more talented and famous brother for work.)

His duets with Vedder were beautiful.

The show had a very nice, laid back vibe. Vedder was wonderful. His voice is incredibly strong and expressive, and his charisma really was powerful in the smaller, theater setting. Blue, Red, and Grey was special.

Joan Jett took the lead on Can't Explain and Summertime Blues, and they were perfect for her.

All respect, peace, and love to the late Clarence and the E Street Band, but Joe Walsh nailed the low parts on Summertime Blues, and nobody does this song better than (what's left of) The Who.

Pete's voice was gruff, but he seemed to be enjoying himself. He did a bit bringing out a turntable and a vinyl recording of I'm One he'd recently cut in Nashville, which he was giving away for the charity.

Pete remains an amazing guitarist. Walsh's varying style was fun, when added to the songs. Rick Nielsen didn't add that much (at least it seemed to me).

It was a short show -- 1:45. But I was glad I went to that instead of the Who show next store at the much larger Rosemont Horizon the night before. This was a fun change of pace, with some really great moments.

They did the bit with My Generation starting as a slowish shuffle, then kicked it into high gear, with full power. Vedder was great, of course, singing it.

My one reservation these days is about the bass being turned down so low, except in My Generation. I read an interview a while ago with Pete, saying that he thought Ox played too loud, and that he likes it being a guitar band now. The excitement of The Who was always the four stars competing against each other for attention, combined with each of the musicians taking turns (or not) playing lead. With the untimely deaths of Keith and John, order has long since been imposed. I understand that was necessary for Pete to go on. And they're still very powerful. But I do notice the absence of the competition (and the second lead from the bass).

After reading the RS interview I no longer wonder why Daltry has cracked Pete's nose so many times. And how many times did he toss out the word money? Great live band, some epic albums and songs. But honestly, Roger Waters comes off as charming compared to that Townsend fellow with the oft broken noggin.

Roger Daltrey Doesn’t Want Fans Smoking Pot at Who Concerts
By Michael Gallucci May 21, 2015 6:40 PM

> Roger

Boy, how things have changed since the ’60s. Roger Daltrey threatened to stop a Who concert last night after he smelled pot smoke in the audience.

According to Newsday, the band was playing a show at New York’s Nassau Coliseum yesterday when an abundant amount of weed smoke started to make itself to the stage. Apparently, the singer is allergic to marijuana smoke and it causes his voice to stop working.

You can see Daltrey scold the audience member with the wicked bud in the above video. He asks him to stop puffing or he would walk offstage. Then Pete Townshend gets a few words in too, before the fan apparently put away his stash and let the band continue on with its 50th-anniversary tour show.

Newsday‘s review notes that “the smoke’s impact was almost immediate on his voice, which went from crystal clear and potent for the opening ‘I Can’t Explain’ to something rougher and more limited during ‘I Can See for Miles.’”

Townshend’s been in a particularly prickly mood lately. Earlier this week, he released a new solo song, “Guantanamo,” about the Cuban prison camp where alleged torturing occurred following one of the wars the U.S. has been involved in over the past few years. In the song (which is from an upcoming solo compilation), he spits his words and hasn’t sounded this angry since that time he kicked a cop.

The Who’s 50th anniversary tour continues through November, with dates in North America and Europe. Townshend also has a special gig on July 5 in London, where his 1973 rock opera Quadrophenia will be performed by a classical orchestra.

Rodger did the same thing in Chicago. Pete said "Whoever is doing the smoking
just raise your hand" it was hilarious. Pete can be a funny guy.

The Who tour with their front characters from original band, and next week I will go and see The Animals, and then with original drummer (John Steel) as well as keybordist who replaced Allan Price (Mick Gallagher) .... It feels a bit more natural when the singer still remains, I must admit. ..

I agree- he defintely put his foot in his mouth. Why does he have to say anything at all? I found it somewhat disrespectfull, but enjoyed the show quite a bit.

Just back from show at Mohegan Sun Casino.

Thought it was a great show. Definitely a "greatest hits" show, and they lack the intensity of 40 years ago, but they sounded every bit as good as the Stones have sounded in recent years.

glad I went, as I have no plans to travel 10 hours to a stones stadium show

I also went to The Who at Mohegan Sun Sunday night - made the drive down from Boston. I had to do it, and I was certainly not disappointed. Really solid show .
Surprisingly, the highlights for me were two songs that are not normally my favorites - Join Together and Eminence Front - both of which were really good. But truly the whole show was superb, aiDEd by some excellent visuals throughout. The Tommy sequence was superb, as was Love Reign O'er Me.
I loved opener Joan Jett and got there in time for her start, as I had seen she opens with the tri-fecta of Bad Reputation, Cherry Bomb, and Do You Wanna Touch me There. By the end of her set, she had a pretty big, and enthusiastic crowd, but lots of folks likely missed those hot opening songs. She was very cool - and happy to see the shout out on the screens in between saying she had just gotten into the R&R Hall of Fame. Well deserved. She loves Rock and Roll. ;-)
Anyway - like many folks have said - this is great double bill. If you're at all on the fence about catching the Who - DO IT. I believe they do a couple more NY area shows before heading back to Europe and then back to the States in the Fall.

Watched the Who in Brooklyn tonight. More likee a Who review instead of an actual Who concert. Some really good moments including a rare performance of "A Quick One." The band is over stocked with a proponderence of background vocals and sidemen who were marginally exceptable. They cut down the jams but stayed pretty heavy all night. Roger gave it a good go, Pete's singing is not much stronger and Simon T tried to help them both through. Zack is a terrific drummer but lays the Moonisms a little over the top. For a band that once relied on inventive bass, Pino as great as he is had little impact on stage. Still very nostalgic as I recalled all the great Who moments I've witnessed. Sadly keyboardist "Rabbit" has been exiled by RD. He is greatly missed, one of a kind musician. His absence was a big dissapointment. Worth the price of admission but not anywhere near the show the Stones present.
