Good morning, everybody. Today it is going to be another exciting day at the Olympics - and extra exciting for us ice hockey lovers. Not much big surprises so far - probably Latvia kicking Switzerland out is the closest - but let's see what happens today in quarter-finals. Of the big ones, SWE and CAN surely will not have problems, but I wouldn't be so sure about RUS and USA. Czech is always a team capable to surprise when no one expects least, and for some reason I have rather good vibes about Finland's chances today. The way Russia plays, pretty much based on (incredible) individual skill, is actually much easier for Finns to challenge than for example Canada's more straight-forward aggressive style.
About aggression, Ovetchkin said yesterday that "we are not going to play of life, but of death" and "it is going to be a war, and we are ready for that". Huh! There seems to be a lot in the game, and one can only imagine how much pressure the Russians have. A tasty situation for the underdog Finns. For us there is only so much to win, and nothing to lose, but for the Russians a lost would be a total fiasco. They can't lose. Can't wait the game to begin!

Curling is capturing, but I need to say that the captain of Russia's women curling team, Sidorova, makes the race even more enjoyable to follow, you know, aesthetically...

I turned on the olympics this morning and saw her "throwing" as I was getting ready for work... When the camera pulled off her to follow the rock my thought was along the lines of "Forget the rock! Show me the GIRL!"
Peace,

Fifteen minutes to go... The cruel fact is that Finland has their worst team on paper for ages, and Russia best for ages... The difference in material is almost similar like back in the old Soviet Union 'Red Machine' days... at the time when losing to USSR with less than six goals was like winning a game... But who cares, looking forward meeting Sweden in semi-finals...
