So your thinking is that this is a dialogue between the twins?
don't you agree there is such ferocity in the delivery of the gist of 'you are not paying attention to me' vein.

Well ... I'm not sure I hear a dialog, and I've only heard three tracks, but
this one does sound reminiscent of All About You, only less weary and angrier - but funnier too.
The neighbourhood the plaque was in suggests a Mick connection too, doesn't it?
So yeah, I reckon that's one of the layers of meaning in this ferocious little number

Listening to Substantial for a second time now, and it starting to grow on me. keef experimenting this time, and not with drugs. Good, like it.

I'm back to being re-puzzled by some of the lines.
"Get Black Friday every day" seems to have too many syllables,
and open-g's "Black Flag every day" (the roach killer?!) does too.
For a while I was hearing something about Black Thursday but ... [scratching head]
Suggestions welcome!

On the other hand, "Good golly, Molly" is clear as a bell for me, so that's staying :E

Listened to Substantial Damage once again. I guess he is going to join King Crimson next year.

...ok you don't like CH. You'd better listen to She's the boss, Primitive Cool, Goddes or Superheavy.

Lovely review (except for calling Heartstopper "generic").

Main Offender & Talk Is Cheap would be a even nicer option...

Great review from Uncut. I agree the album is surprisingly cohesive, as if recorded in a matter of weeks instead of piecemeal over several years. It's a reminder of the days when the Stones could make it sound as though disco, punk, and country could fit comfortably on the same album.

Keith was once asked in an interview as to why Dylan behaved as he did during the lead up to their Live Aid performance.
"Because he's a c..t" came the reply.

Excellent interview! Thanks for the post Green Lady!

Some great questions asked and answered (kind of). Specifically I noticed how he side stepped the Mick Taylor questions....

In terms of him touring behind the record it sounds like we've been right on target here...no tour per se, perhaps only a couple shows and Keith is concerned about his ability to play and sing at the same time. I hope he finds the time, the right band and the abilities to pull it off.

"If Crosseyed Heart is an indication of where a potential new Stones album might one day go, then this is the kind of record you'd wish they'd make"

Take note Mick!!!

The review isnt even new. its from the first impressions after the listening party as you can see from the link above.

As a stickler for details, I noticed there are a few changes/edits between the two.

For instance there is no reference to Johnny Depp in the magazine version.

And the final sentence has also changed, omitting the word "absolutely":

"If Crosseyed Heart is an indication of where a potential new Stones album might one day go, then this is absolutely the kind of record you’d wish they’d make".

Take note Mick!!!

"In April 1988, meanwhile, Dylan joined the Stones to play "Like A Rolling Stone" at Rio's Praca Da Apoteose."

The first time Dylan joined the Stones to play Like A Rolling Stone was in Montpellier in 1995.
Then, a couple of times in Argentina and Brazil in 1998.

Damn. Even though you got the plume makes more sense, I keep hearing broom.
Preparations for Pesach would be a context for that, but why would Keith be preparing for Pesach??

Similarly, the Get Black Friday/Black Flag line now sounds to me like "Get it back by Thursday" - but why??

I wonder if there's any chance the lyrics will accompany the album. Keith's never done that, has he -
but then, he's never played bass on a whole album either, so ...

Several people hear groove for the plume/feather line, and I think that may be what it is. None of them make a lot of sense, but "broom" keeps giving me this silly mental picture of Mick with a broom and Keith with a feather duster...

I'll try my ears on that, Green Lady.
Meanwhile, from the Department of Why Do Solo Albums, I'm quite enjoying the image of Keith
appearing on a Stones stage with a megaphone and bellowing WHAT'S THAT THING ATTACHED TO YOUR EAR at Mick :E
