The line "I'm paying for dinner and I might as well not be here" immediately brings to mind the line in Trouble: "...but I know if I get you out, I won't get a second look".

The question is: When did the interview actually took place, before or after some source told us that there will be no tour?

It´s all so confusing...

He hopes the Winos will reconvene for a handful of shows, he hopes he Stones will get in the studio after a tour....not quite an official announcement. Don't think it's quite the time to react to Keith's hopes quite yet.

Of the two I'd prefer a new Stones record actually but would be delighted if either of these hopes became reality.

Keith Richards on Crosseyed Heart, His First Solo Album in 23 Years
By David Marchese
Share Tweet Share Share Email

Unlike many solo efforts from longtime members of a band, Keith Richards’s upcoming Crosseyed Heart — his first non–Rolling Stones album in 23 years — wasn’t intended as a platform for the elegantly grizzled guitarist to do much experimenting. “The most unique thing about it,” Richards, 71, says wryly, “is that there was no deadline for me to make it.”

On the cover of your first solo album, 1988’s Talk Is Cheap, you’re smoking a cigarette and looking defiant. The same goes for 1992’s Main Offender. On the cover of Crosseyed Heart, there’s no cigarette and you’re smiling. What gives?
I didn’t quit smoking, mate. I blame the photographers for those other ones. I’d go through a pack just for them to be able to get the smoke right for the photos. The photographers are a bad influence on me.

You’ve written a few hundred songs and recorded more than 40 albums. Does all that experience make it harder to write a great song rather than just a good one?
Oh, man, isn’t that true for everybody that does anything in the artistic line? I groan about my own writing. There are times when I wonder if what I’ve done is any good. So what I do in that situation, and did a lot on the new album, is throw the song out to the other musicians. You watch their eyes and see what the reaction is. And if it’s not good, you break a string on your guitar and say, “Well, forget that one.”

What itch can you scratch by recording a solo album that you can’t scratch with your regular band?
It’s the challenge. You’re thinking about whether or not you can carry the weight of the project. Are you biting off more than you can chew? And did you want to chew that much in the first place? Wrestling with the different context and doing all the singing is something I enjoy immensely.

Do you ever get tired of the Rolling Stones machine?
Is it possible for you to do anything spontaneous with the band? If I really feel like doing something, then I just do it. But I understand what you mean. I live in Connecticut, and I’ll think, Aw, I’m gonna go into the city, and, before I know it, I have a driver and a bodyguard and I just wanted to go to dinner, you know? It’s the insurance people’s fault. They’re always getting in the way.

Aside from the new album, what do you have coming up that you’re most excited about?
I’m most excited about another new day. That’s a happy thing. I couldn’t always count on another one of those.

I've just spent the whole of yesterday and today sorting out a failed wireless connection on my printer - and now finally have a chance to get out the new song - thanks very much to Matt for unlocking the clue. thumbs upsmiling smiley

If this is the case,
I could feel it coming
Mick is Keith's Achilles heel
I know must of you Stones fans out their understandably want a new Stones album out for them to tread the boards with,
but i think Mick will drown out Keith's input again on a new album
That's the way its been since they got back together in 89'
Mick is the dominant alpha male these days as far as those two go in the studio or song selection on live shows.
Probably the reason why so many of you tire with the set lists
But sadly with Mick dominating recordings and production the Glimmer twins are not reaching their potential imho

Hey turner that was the very show i was going to see when he infected his finger on a guitar string
Good thing was when they rescheduled it we got the Steel Wheels set back instead of the urban jungle one

Dear Jeroen/Riffhards/Turner:

Really?

Again with the "poor poor pitiful Keith" routine? Which is he, the rock and roll gunslinger whose riffs launched a thousand shows ... or some put-upon pussy-whipped dweeb who can't stand up to Mick Jagger?

Isn't it possible that Keith is doing EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTS TO DO? Isn't it possible that if Keith really wanted to he could tell Jagger to @#$%& off and he could take the Winos out on a tour of clubs or sheds or arenas or whatever they could fill?

You can't have it both ways, guys. Either he's a badass or he's a victim.

Let's all keep our hair on, shall we?
We have no idea what barriers there might be to Keith going on tour behind this record.
Just one obvious example: The musicians that Keith would convene to tour with all have other commitments
and it's very likely not simple to arrange things to suit everyone. Now turn up the music.

I think this has less to do with the power struggle between Mick and Keith these days as it has to do with how they approach Stones touring business vs Stones creative business (and solo work).

My guess is that Keith has indeed given in to Mick when it comes to business matters and touring plans and all such stuff, and done so willingly and with a sense of gratitude.

As far as creative work like making a new record, I think the power issues are much less defined and it has become more of a give the power to whomever brings the idea into the studio. They probably aren't willing to flesh out each others songs like they have in the past likely because this has proven to be counter productive where it once was the source of great creations. One or both of them has quit trusting what the other can add to their ideas, a quite natural progression considering they have both become mature and accomplished songwriters on their own.

True, but the release date was trailed about 6 months ago, so plenty of time for people to clear their diaries if Keith and his organisation were committed to organising a short tour to help promote the album.
Wasnt it Keith who once said in effect no pointing in recording unless you take the results out onto the road.

Well on a broader scale, with all things Rolling Stones their relationship is very complex.
Yes gun-slinger Keith looks the part of the alpha male during JJF
Mick constantly signals to all the musicians on stage what to do and when to do it like a conductor
Its not black and white. This is why they fall out in my opinion
Every so often Keith must get frustrated and makes these cruel remarks about Mick out of a combination of devilment and despair
I would say that Turner myself and Jeroen are telling it as we see it from the evidence that's very clear to see.
Keith says things like, Mick chooses the setlist because the singer has to want to sing the songs.
I mean this is a face saver.
Obviously Keith contractually can say no to the setlist but he does not.
This is a clear view in my mind Mick holds the dominance
Mick shows on many occasions that he impatiently wants a particular song to end but Keith will continue to play as long as possible, this is his little show of Keith's dominance lol
Its very tit for tat and childish on some levels but very disturbing on others
I find that its their differences that cause the staleness of song selection and lack of great albums. They have made good albums since Tattoo you but not great albums
But at least they still together, its a dysfunctional relationship but boy do we love the results, i'm just saying they could have better results..
