I like the piano on "Robbed Blind;" assume that's Keith? It's nice and has just a tinge of melancholy about it.

You know, it's like with anything else, you either dig this stuff, it touches you, or it doesn't. Since I've never owned a Keith solo record, I'm only going by these 4 tracks ... and it all sounds very similar in tone to me. Not the instrumentation or tempi; they vary from track to track. But more the "role" Keith plays in his songs. The world-weary bleary-eyed wastrel. It's kind of cool, especially for those of us who've been listening to his music for decades. After all, hasn't he earned these particular stripes?

But I don't think he really writes songs any more. They're more riffs on that one persona of his. And the limits to his vocal range don't make things any easier--he plays that aged gunslinger well but I don't find him vocally expressive enough to really make me care about what he's singing about. I know this is a minority opinion 'round here, but what the hell?

Such a beautiful intro, I wish it was extended a tad longer but alas the story must be told.

I'm just glad a new and wonderful song was released. Who cares if the organization messed something up, it's a whole new concept. People make mistakes, it's not the end of the world.

Agree. I haven't heard the bootleg and, at this point, I don't have the time to chase it down, so it's fun to get a peek at the songs. The early reviews from those who have the bootleg are promising...feels like we'll have Christmas in September this year. smiling smiley

Well we don't know the story yet, so perhaps the organization isn't at fault here. People are just a bit suspicious after last weeks mess up. Seems like someone had to be there to see Matt hanging around outside? confused smiley

Wooooooww!! Robbed Blind, exactly what I hoped for! I'm surely not a country music fan, but this is so far my favorite from the album. And even with crappy laptop speakers it just sounds great. Very much looking forward to 18th for a proper sound experience. I pre-ordered via KR site but might go that day anyway to the shop to get it (just in case, and I can always give one as a present away).

Now, very much waiting for news on some live dates, please!

I cranked up the official audio of "Substantial Damage" for the first time today, and it made me sad how much bass Mick played on A Bigger Bang.

My God this is good stuff! Nice to slow it down a bit after the raucous Substantial Damage.
Old school country - reminds me of Merle, Willie, Waylon, Johnny, George Jones, and the best of the rest.

So far I've heard four new tunes from Keith - top notch of the highest quality Stonesy good stuff...and they just keep getting better?!!!! thumbs up

Happy to read your comment karimamilena. I'm not a country music fan either, but now I can't wait to get home to hear the new song.

What are your thoughts? Personally, I really like it. It has a great groove, and that guitar riff is killer. Although I didn't much like "Amnesia" to be honest... Can't wait to see what else this album has to offer!

i like it. and amnesia. i think it's all very promising, more exciting than anything in the last 10 years from the Stones.

Yes, it's alright. But you hear so little new Stones material these days that you tend to lower the bar. Many Keith songs has great riffs and groove but tends to lack serious songwriting.
They sound like they have been recorded during jams in the studio. Few of these songs will hit the charts, I'm afraid. They are too sketchy and lack composition.

StickyExile98, the Track Talk threads are Rene's project, and even though it's great to discuss whatever tracks we want,
as a courtesy it's good to leave the "track talk" part out of the thread title.
To change your thread title, go back to your original post, hit the "edit" button under it,
change what you need to change and then hit "save". Thanks for the consideration!

I love Substantial Damage - funky, jump-bluesy, fierce and funny.
All three of the tracks Keith's released so far groove me, but this one's my favourite.

Agreed. The 'Track Talk' are René's project. That doesn't take away the joy to discuss tracks, as long as it doesn't have the 'Track Talk' in the title.

When did that collaboration occur, RockMan?
Because this track sounds to me like a close relative of It Means a Lot,
just cranked way up and racing around with a megaphone

Nothin to see here, folks! Move right along :E

It's Blues in the Morning Bobby's on, and I was told that clearly last week. Pass the caffeine

OK out on a limb here: When I heard Bobby Keys is on two tracks and this is one of them,
I expected to hear more of him ... and one of the slide guitar lines sounds like Keith wanted Bobby playing that part too.
Does anyone hear what I mean, before I delete all this and pretend I never said it?
