Amazing news - above and beyond all expectations. Would love to pay top dollar for this unique new compilation, after all it's been ten years already since the last one covering the exact same ground. (Two new songs to download illegally or via itunes, that's all)

Dont be surprised if you find that the two new songs are 'album only'

The last graphic design from this band that spoke to me in anyway at all was the jagged/split color tongue from 1989. I actually thought Flashpoint was cool in a bold yet minimalist way, but it's really been downhill since that era.

Actually I take that back a bit. The skeletons of Voodoo Lounge were kinda cool. I had a badass instore display that had a backlight scene of the skeletons playing cards. The stupid yellow zombie sort of ruined it though. Sold it to a fella on Ebay in 2000 for $200!

They should have stuck with skeletons like the Grateful Dead sort of did.

I've seen them recently...now worth $800.
Worth (maybe) $299.00 [www.ebay.com]

More like $125.00 for an unopened, mint condition one [www.ebay.com] If he misses it, he can now buy it back and make $75.00... AND by thw way... this is how "SHORTING STOCK" works.... sell something and then buy it back later for less... and still have thing PLUS $75.00

He did good selling in 2000 for $200.00

I haven't posted on here for ages but as an ex fan I am seriously pissed off that they can't get off their lazy skinny backsides and give us something decent like a new record.... even if it's a covers album of their favourite tunes. They must think I'm f**kin' stupid that I would even think of buying a record with a friggin' ape on the front that contains all the songs that I own and probably 2 toss offs. What a shit way to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Well done Mick you just sold your legacy down the shitter......except the official boots are superb and you should have done it years ago. Christ am I seriously dissapointed.

I suspect the new film will be 25x5 with the later years tagged on and edited to the death.

Word of advice to the Stones....listen to your fans....or your soon to be ex fans and if you think that I'm going to spend my hard earned on sky high ticket prices you have another thing coming.

WHAT A DISASTER , this is what we waited 7 years for?

Re: GRRR! The Rolling Stones

I have not had time to read this thread, so I apologize if I am only repeating the thought of another post:

I am more than pleased if I am able to obtain the two new songs separately in what earlier would have constituted a maxi single. (In fact, I am still primarily listening to music through vinyl recordings.) That would mean at least some new material, even if it is gonna be two songs only and nothing more later.

But I am not that pleased if I am to be made to buy a repackage of 48 other tracks from all of their career, in order to obtain what is new, two songs only.

In all due respect!

My point exactly. I hope someone from the "organisation" read this board and perhaps we get something that was actually worth waiting for. What they need is a decent manager a) to keep them in line and b) to tell them what to do.

Great point NICOS As much as I am disappointed by this turn of events, I agree with you.....and the last time they released a greatest hits album and a few new songs.....they toured for 2+ years

Yet again the Stones promise so much and deliver so little
I'll still buy it, cause I'm a sucker
Quite sad really

I'm a bit confused here,,, what they have actually promised? I think the expectations here by some people have gone out of hand.

- Doxa

Very true Doxa....I think we've been putting out all the hype. Not them. They just keep hinting that something is going to happen but they never said what.

It was mentioned That GRRR has Come On on it. Vold this mean That it's not just a hits package, but rather a Best Of? Would be Nice If it wasn't only hits, but also songs That was developments In the songwriting. Cyhmk could be on it without being a single or a hit.

That was the approach taken on "Hot Rocks" to great success. It's still the best compilation they have done, and was many people's introduction to the band.

The Exile and Some Girls outtakes where just for us.
This one is not.
By the way, my teenage daughter likes the cover.
Hope we all like the 2 new songs.

It looks like the cover and title are a high school art project banged together the morning they were due. Not impressed.

I am too lazy to look at the rest of these post, but I guess I have that trait in common with my favorite band. Yet another BS greatest hits, and Mick blames Allen Klien for re-packaging. Oh, but two new tracks - why not just release them on itunes. But then again, another generation of cash for the same tunes. Great businessmen, lazy musicians.

Those other Walton Ford gorillas aren't just any gorilla, they're likenesses of Willis O'Brien's King Kong. They may not belong on a Stones album cover either, but they're certainly classier than what Mick and Charlie picked this time around.

Personally, I'll call this compilation HAIRY LICKS instead of GRRR.

GRRR is a title that makes them sound like they've come full circle from Kellogg's Rice Krispies to Kellogg's Frosted Flakes.

I look forward to RS.com offering a special limited edition alternate Polar Bear cover for Winter 2012/2013 release entitled BRRR.

I look forward to hearing Mick namecheck the album when they play "Gloom and Doom" live in November. I also hope the stage design is a cheesy safari set.

Maybe they'll dress in safari clothes with the tongue and lips logo emblazoned on the breast. I can see lots of merchandising tie-in's. How about rubber bananas with the Stones logo in place of the Chiquita sticker?

Looking forward to seeing Mick ride the inflatable elephant during "Midnight Rambler" later this year. Maybe the tour can be the "GO APE" tour. There's no shortage of bad ideas for them to exploit. They should have offered this to The Monkees instead or if the Banana Splits ever do a reunion.

Dang, 15 pages of (mostly) complaining! My first reaction when I saw the gorilla was you've got to be kidding, what the heck is this? But the more I look at it the more I agree with the opinion of Doxa and a few others here. I think it's daring of them to put out a cover like this, it completely flies in the face of what is expected from a legendary, iconic band. I figured a compliation would have a picture of the band, maybe in the studio together or posed in hip clothes with a cool backdrop. To me, the cover has a retro, kitsch, pop art look to it, and the more I look at it, the more I like it. Trust the Stones to still be capable of pissing off the establishment, which, let's face it, that includes us now, folks. winking smiley

Hey, it's an ugly cover and most people don't like it, but if you like it good for you. Really, who cares, it's what is being presented inside that counts.

I'd like to hear Mick, Keith or Charlie describe why it was chosen...maybe there is some specific motive?

Failing that, it simply fails.

For once I am VERY interested in reading the next interview with Mick and what was going through his head over the las 8 months, about a lot of things. I wont be judging him, I am just curious.... and this cover is just one thing I am cuirous about.

I like the Gorilla... he is all right with me.
