"Slane doesnt 'choose' the date of their annual concert. Its a movable event, worked around the headline act's tour schedule. And always has been."
This is precisely what I'm suggesting - I believe the Stones are that headline act.
"Rumour has it that the reunited Stone Roses will play Slane in July"
I believe that's been confirmed. This may be an American perspective (as the band is not very well known here beyond music geeks), but while the Stone Roses is a big reunion, it does not seem to me a headlining act.

What I was suggesting is not that they'll play separate dates, but rather that they will play the same show, with the Stones as headliner. While Madchester apparently remains much bigger than I would have imagined, consider that Coldplay, the Foo Fighters and the Chili Peppers, all big bands, played Slane in 2003, but U2, a mega-band, was the headliner. Even if the Stones were no longer as popular as an opener (which I find unbelievable from across the pond), no one is going to go on after them.

Indeed.

When/where? Just curious.

Thanks.
>We'd be very pleased to end on No Line on the Horizon," he says, before acknowledging the unlikelihood of that scenario: "I doubt that."
Me too. I wonder if the dissolution of R.E.M. have made him ponder his future.

So Bruce Springsteen has been announced as the Saturday headliner at Hard Rock Calling. And a member of Kasabian has effectively confirmed that they will play (and I assume headline) the festival. If so, that would be on Friday. This leaves open the Sunday slot.
Here are the past Sunday night headliners:
2006 - The Who
2007 - Aerosmith
2008 - The Police
2009 - Springsteen
2010 - Paul Mccartney
2011 - Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood
The only acts I can think of that would take Sunday night other than the Stones are U2 and Radiohead. I've heard nothing about touring plans by the former. The latter will be in Italy and Germany from June 30 to July 6, which suggests they might be headed for Hyde Park. Even if they did take Sunday, July 12 would still be available for the Stones.

i suspect Hyde Park will be booking The Stone Roses for that slot.
