Generally speaking, typical of latter day Stones, up tempo for cheap excitement sake obliterating the slower, sexier tempo. But when you are on the grand stage you make grand gestures for the grand audience.

I like it. Is this from Philadelphia? However, I don't like the sound of those amps, Boogie heads and EV cabinets (later Boogie cabinets). 1978 had the best "amp" sound.

The studio rendition is one my absolute favourites. This, however, is total dross. No wonder they dropped it from the set-list. It just doesn't work at 200mph. I had always been curious as to how the song sounded live in '81 - terrible, as it turns out.

How is this terrible?? Great guitar playing, a swinging piano and a band that cooks! What more can one ask for?

I believe "coked up" is the right word for it. Being unrehearsed, sloppy and coked up was considered cool in the 70s. I don't know if it was considered cool in 1981 though. Maybe it was that that Jagger eventually grasped, hence the Vegas era to come...
