Germany's poor performance against Spain land's them in the loser game. An embarrassing way to end the tournament. But an accomplishment for Uruguay who has a good shot at winning.

Of course this game is for the teams that lost the World Cup and the winner of this match gets the third place prize: A set of steak knives.

Steak knives?? I'd rather have an octopus carver!!!

grinning smiley

A third place is a fantastic achievement in my eyes. The third best football country in the world, with so many excellent football countries (Brazil, Italy, France, Chile, Mexico, Ghana, Argentina, Portugal, England etc.) behind. Something to be very proud of.

No one will remember the third place finisher except the country that won the game and the country that lost it.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes mean only one thing, you lost the World Cup.

Take that for what its worth, here in Buffalo, NY we lost 4 straight Super Bowls and 2 Stanley Cups in hockey. That lives with you forever until you win one of course.

I guess so but it's still nice to have Germany/West Germany's record since 1966. Not even Brazil have been that consistant.

66 - Finalists
70 - 3rd
74 - Winners
78 - Quarter Finals
82 - Finalists
86 - Finalists
90 - Winners
94 - Quarter Finals
98 - Quarter Finals
2002 - Finalists
2006 - 3
2010 - 3

I wonder, if Germany had come out charging like this in the semi final would it be Nederlands Vs Germany in the final?

Well, so far it looks like both teams disagree with you. I see 2 teams who both are trying to win. And they are really doing their best. 1-1 right now and I have been loving every minute of the game so far.

I am no football expert, but this looks like a differnt German team than played in the semi-final. They are much more agressive.

I presume you mean 'because of rain' and not due to a waterlogged pitch.

I've seen a few abandoned for that reason.

What an absolute cracker of a game that was. Maybe the best of the tournament. Edge of seat stuff right to the last kick. Literally.

Hopefully tomorrow's will be at least half as good.

Thanks gazza, I was more wondering the rules in general. For instance, I wondered if there was ever a "delay" becasue it was raining so hard they could not see, or does it rely on the pitch condition?

Different sport have differnt rules.
MLB Baseball stops as soon as it starts to rain hard, to protect the field,
while I have never seen an NFL game stopped for anything except lightnening,
and that includes a fog game where the dang cameras could not even see the field,
and a wide assortment of crazy snow games which continued in nuty conditions.

Unless we see a goal fest tomorrow or surprise win for Holland then Germany must be team of the tournament for their exciting play and all those goals they scored, especially the 4-0 destruction of Argentina.
