For the finals - I've decided I'm Dutch! Gonna scream my lungs out for the orange lads, and the funny crown with orange afro wigs. They look absolutely out of their minds - drunk and happy, harmless and friendly. How can one not love the Dutch?!
Go Holland! Go! Hup - or whatever you call it!

Englishman Howard Webb to referee final

Englishman Howard Webb has been chosen to referee the World Cup final between Netherlands and Spain in Johannesburg on Sunday, Fifa has confirmed.

The 38-year-old Yorkshireman has had a good tournament so far, as have his assistants Michael Mullarkey and Darren Cann, who will join him in the final.
Webb is the first Englishman to referee the final since Jack Taylor in 1974.

He has refereed three World Cup matches in South Africa and has neither shown a red card nor awarded a penalty.

Webb made his World Cup finals debut in Spain's shock 1-0 defeat by Switzerland.

Mullarkey said: "When we're doing our training exercises Fifa is actually playing recorded sounds of vuvuzelas through the speakers.

He has refereed three World Cup matches in South Africa and
has neither shown a red card nor awarded a penalty.
However, Webb has handed out an average of 5.67 bookings per games - the second highest tally in tournament.

I wonder what bookings vs red card vs penalty means?

Before anyone laughs, I understand yellow and red cards ( kind of )
and I know 2 yellows is a red ... and sometime the ref gives a
penalty kick and sometimes not. And I know red card a team is down a man,
but can a team go down more men, for more red cards? e.g. 6 players vs 11 players?

So when they say "5.67 booking" is that a yellow card?, but not a penalty?, cuz Webb did not award a penalty.

I have been reading here .....[www.soccerhelp.com] . ..but still....

Don´t know more of you what are you talking about about boring game, specially first half, Spain neutralized Germany attacking them and controling the ball, that´s it period!! They had the total control of the game, they shoot 23 times at first half, and moved the ball quite quickly at the second half was the masterpiece of playing as many people of this business says Spanish football it´s unachievable .
Today and yesterday I have been reading papers and watching most importants media of the world and they said the style of Spain is very similar to Brazil 70´s, and Holland 74´s, but quiter similar to Brazil, even the Dutch trainer again says Spain is the best team of world, even the best players in the history of Holland, such eminences as Cryuff, Ronald Koeman, Van Basten, Van Nistelroy, Rijkard, etc...
And If Holland is brave and play widely, they´ll get tons of goals by Spain for sure.
I always like Holland style and Barcelona has absorved from that getting lots of trainers and players, the great ones,

I have been reading here .....[www.soccerhelp.com] . ..but still....

Yep Max, they mean a yellow card, calling it a booking. So Webb's average is 5,67 yellow cards per match, which is quite a lot, as the article stated: "the second highest tally in tournament." This implies imo that he never gave the same player two yellow cards during the same match (because that makes a red card). So no exclusion of any player during this tournament by Webb so far!

The minimum number of players is 7 per team to be able to start a match. But I remember that during the game (when started with 2 x 11 players), the game is over and lost by the team that has only 8 players yet. But that's a theoretical issue in professional football nowadays.
