Congrats to Germany, Silver Dagger, Havo, Susanne and all Germans. Well, the better team this match? The goalkeeper of Uruguay helped the Germans by two blunders, the third goal was a bit of a lucky one, more the consequence of pressure play than the result of a real attack. The goals of Uruguay were beautiful, the German keeper three times as good as the Uruguyan goalkeeper. And then that last free kick of Forlan! What a great player. Conclusion: a very enjoyable and open game, a real match with two very motivated teams who justly made it to the half finals. All with all Uruguay has surprised me very positively during their last two matches against Holland and Germany. Both Uruguay and Germany deserved the third place. Just pity that the Germans fly back home during the final tomorrow. They should stay one day longer and be included in the ending ceremony. They will be missed! A big fault of the Fifa. Much respect for Germany and Uruguay!

Another very fair appraisal kleermaker. You're not a TV pundit or journalist by any chance are you? Anyway, you better have an early night my friend. It's going to be a l-o-n-g day for you tomorrow. And if you win, you're going to be drinking all week. Good luck! smileys with beer

I´m afraid you´re right, it´s also very hot here, had to close the garden door and some windows because of a thunderstorm going on for hours now. So sleeping won´t be easy. Anyway, I have no high expectations, because I think Spain will win. Two reasons: Spain is in the flow after the match against Germany and they are just better on the midfield. In fact its team is a clone of Barça that some stupid Dutch football coaches and players have created, not thinking of the big concurrence they were creating! And even most Catalans themselves don't want Spain to win!

Raining pretty hard now. Has there ever rain delay?

I cannot remember that there has ever been a football match cancelled because of rain

I presume you mean 'because of rain' and not due to a waterlogged pitch.

I've seen a few abandoned for that reason.

What an absolute cracker of a game that was. Maybe the best of the tournament. Edge of seat stuff right to the last kick. Literally.

Hopefully tomorrow's will be at least half as good.

Thanks gazza, I was more wondering the rules in general. For instance, I wondered if there was ever a "delay" becasue it was raining so hard they could not see, or does it rely on the pitch condition?

Different sport have differnt rules.
MLB Baseball stops as soon as it starts to rain hard, to protect the field,
while I have never seen an NFL game stopped for anything except lightnening,
and that includes a fog game where the dang cameras could not even see the field,
and a wide assortment of crazy snow games which continued in nuty conditions.

Generally its whether or not the pitch is in a dangerous condition - postponed matches (in northern Europe anyway) are pretty regular in winter, although I've even been to a game here a couple of years ago in August - on the opening day of the season! - abandoned after 20 minutes due to flooding. Frost is as common a reason for a game being postponed than a flooded pitch, though.

In the World Cup, I remember the game between West Germany and Poland in 1974 (which was, to all intents and purposes a semi final) being delayed by around an hour because of a waterlogged pitch.

I nominate this thread for "GOLDEN THREAD OF ALL TIME".

I can not remember one thread ( on any web site ) that has ever been as
informational and fun as this one ( for me anyway ). I am also happy at how
this thread has stayed above and beyond the call of duty as far as staying
cival. It approached the precipice of being locked down, but always cooled down and carried on ... GOOD JOB PEOPLE .....

Over 70 pages and 2000 posts documenting World Cup 2010.

THIS WORLD CUP HAS BEEN VERY FUN FOR ME, MAINLY BECAUSE OF YOU IORRers.!!!

Now we have to wait 4 years? : ( ....
but I suppose it would not be as fun, if it happened every year or two.

In Denmark mathces have been cancelled because of rain - the field being impossible to play on. England don't remember, but lots of matches cancelled because of snow.

I fully agree Max. It was big fun indeed, but it's not over yet! We have one last match and one more day to go and I'm sure all here do hope it will be great, so please no penalty kicks after extra time to decide who's the winner. That would in each case an anti-climax (well, a lesser anti-climax if Holland would win in the end, but though).

PS: I for one could easily handle it if it was every 2 yearscool smiley.

A very good match and a happy German squad and their steak knives.

Coming in 4th and receiving a Taco Bell gift certificate and free lion safari pass is Uruguay.

The real question is will Thomas Mueller win the golden boot award over David Villa?

Congratulation Germans!!!
and Uruguayos for this great tournament, de corazón!!!

We, ESPAÑA, we´ll at the PROMISE LAND, at the Soccer Stadium in hours,
The difference between Holland and Spain? EASY, we are going to celebrate as well if we loose, because we are finalist, for the first time, of course we´d love to win this championship, but the happiness being here it´s superb and grateful!!!
We are going to be VERY happy, drunk and proud of these players, it´s the best team and the best players so far during these 10 years, you have to see stadistics, how many titles Xavi, Casillas, Pujol, Iniesta, Xavi Alonso, Torres, Capdevilla, Silva,Reina etc, almost 90% have won continental titles and local leagues, that´s amazing, beside that Spain has an style of playing, probably inherited for those players in the past so amazing, Cardeñosa, Iribar, Butragueño, Michel, Gallego, Juanito, Del Bosque, Pirri, Luis Suarez, Raúl, Santillana, Julio Salinas, Luis Enrique, Amancio, Sanchís, Luis Aragonés, Gento, etc, so many many.
Spain deserves this title, so Holland, but you´ll see Spain will win very easy if the first ball come soon, so those people critize about Spain no goal, just in every match one-nil, you´ll see, I have to remind you, Spain is the National team with more goal in the last 10 years all over the planet in Official competitions and Fair Games.
The Game between Germans and Spaniards was magnificent, that touch of movimg the ball, the tempo, deffending the other team so incredible, possesion of the ball, shoots, etc.
THe PROMISE LAND, is Soccer City Stadium, as used to be for Elvis, we never have played in this stadium, Holland never lost a game in this competition, same as Portugal in the 16 official games, always scoring in the last 9, Chile idem and idem, Paraguay as well, and finally Germany for most pf you the best one, and at the end they surrender to us.
Cruyff and other holland eminences has said if Spain has the ball is done, and Spain is gonna have it, Holland doesn´t have those players.
So Congratulations hollanders being in the Final, and
VAaaaaaaamoooooooooossss España y ESPAÑOLES OVER HERE who has been supporting these players!!!
VAaaaaaamoossssss!!!
Carlitos
And Heeyy!! A good premonition Paul open the German box, and they won today!! Lots of great player will be at the FINAL as PAU GASOL and I believe NADAL, if he is there we´LL WiN NO DOUBT VAMOS LAKERS!!!

It was a great match of both teams despite the big disappointment of their
semi-final defeats.
Strange that Uruguay as 4th had to move without any congratulations from the yard,
that´s really not neccessary.
To be honest, never paid that much attention to the "small final",but wasn´t aware
of such a ceremony.

You´re right,Gazza, watched the game as a 9 year old on TV that day and remember very good that the
circumstances under which it had to be played because of the tight schedule were
regarded as irregular.

The ludicrous thing is that if more than one player is level on goals scored, it goes to 'assists' - which kinda defeats the purpose a bit.

At the minute Muller is ahead on assists. However, as far as I know, FIFA have credited Sneijder with 5 goals too (although the one against Brazil was clearly an own goal) so he could do it too.
