Then why are the South Africans calling their showpiece stadium, the one that will host the final game that millions across the globe will watch, "Soccer City?" And why then is "soccer" also a common name for the sport in Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand? And why did the English invent the phrase "soccer" if they didn't want anyone to call it that?
Lame modem, the English call Football Football, eventhough the word soccer comes from English it is not commonly used in England, unless maybe when speaking to an American as probably is the case with the countries you mention. And in Australia they call rugby football too or footy, they are indeed the exception to the rule.
I do not like the name Soccer city, I think they made a mistake with that name but what does South Africa know about Football, they know about Rugby.
But my point is about the rest of the world calling American Football American Rugby from now on as it is so much more accurate then calling it Football a word that the rest of the world use to describe Football the sport where the ball is played with the foot.

Spain yesterday was excellent, they are very strong in every part of the field but they depend too much on Villa; Brasil is Brasil, very solid and concrete, they didn't show nothing specal until now but they got to quarter finals without efforts. Mibee not this World Cup but anyone who knows anything about football development can see that Germany team will peak around 2012 and probably have the nucleus to go on and dominate the Football Dance for the next decade. The German authorities took it bad when France dominated the scene but they did something about it and pumped in a lot of money. Now they're starting to see the results. Good on them and I'm not German.

The North-Americans insist on calling Football Soccer and their version of Rugby American Football, the world calls Football Football and should from now on call American Football American Rugby. Problem solved.
Football is Football and Rugby has two versions Rugby and American Rugby with protection gear.
