He was good, but I really don't think he is up there with the giants like Hendrix etc, his playing is just too bog standard - british blues to be deemed distinctive.

I do prefer the UK - no single formula too, but it doesn't always make for better albums, Aftermath ending on such a weak song like What to Do for example. I refuse to believe the band chose that one! The first UK album is perfect though, the thought of listening to that minus Mona and with the inclusion of not fade away freaks me out!

It's frustrating listening to Brian play acoustic on the early takes of The Lantern, his tuning is off even after tuning up and what he plays is close too being something cool, but he keeps throwing in wonky licks for an end phrase. Yeah I agree that even when session players have been brought in, it doesn't mean Brian can't be on that track playing sax also. For example, Bill say's Brian played sax on something happened..., so perhaps Brian played a cool sax part, then later the sessions players added on their overdubs or vice versa.
