QuoteThe Stones That's awful. Too bad they didn't let Liam kick the bastards ass real good and then send that miserable creep to a Russian labour camp. Ha, it looks like such a half arsed attempt at getting at the guy, sorry but Liam is a grade A plonker. He probably learned his lesson when he got his teeth knocked out.

QuoteBritney Listen to the reverse beat during the intro of Little Queenie on Ya Ya's. That is wrong though, ie Charlie has came in on the wrong beat, but they must have liked it or the rest of the track was too good not to use so they kept it. Poor monitoring is to blame and it's something they have talked about at times. It's fun and it's cool hearing them work thei

There's only two guitars on Gimme Shelter - 1 rhythm guitar possibly going through two seperate amps and then the lead guitar. 4 guitars on stray cat blues - 1 doing the main riffing, two separate lead tracks and the chuck berry-esque riff overdub at the end. I don't think SFM has as many guitars as we are led to believe. JJF probably has more. It's always possible tha

Has Bill said be played organ on the track? The basic block chording, ie similar to Brian's organ part on LSTNT suggests it's: Brian Jones - hammond organ, recorder Ian Stewart - piano ... It sounds like Keith is using the Vox UL-760's amp with the inbuilt fuzz engaged for the rhythm/riffing guitar.

Yeah, sorry this has taken so long to finally get going! I look forward to hearing the gig after Mathijs does his work on the recordings.

I haven't listened to it for awhile, but I think they also played it in A at the 69 Hyde Park gig. I reckon the change of key will have been due to some vocal thing, perhaps it just didn't work live in E at that time.

There are no minor chords in No Expectations, just 3 major chords as mentioned above. The studio version is in the key of E, the Rock and Roll Circus version is in A.

I bought a philips tape machine from circa 1967 awhile ago and got experimenting. I always bear in mind that there is more to the sound that just the tape machine... The volume at which the stones played the recording back at has a lot to do with the distorted sound, not just how it was recorded in to the machine. The large speaker they played it back through, possibly one of the big white

Problem is, the SFM lyrics/vocal can't have been on the original basic philips tape machine take as the song had different lyrics when the backing track was done. Everybody Pays Their Dues features the exact same basic philips tape machine take as the released version of Street Fighting Man.

I'm afraid that ain't true JR, they've been overdubbing since the IBC demos in 1963.

QuoteWeLoveYou Hi HM........ I'm not sure the SFM drums and first/main guitar were done on the same philips tape track, as they are panned left and right respectively (it was a mono recorder I believe, not stereo). I think only the first guitar was done on the philips tape and then charlie played drums along with it in a subsequent take, but kind of live, as it were...ie at the same time as

Quotestone-relics You aint justa whistlin' Dixie. They SHOULD go to ABKCO, but If I can get 'em. I will. Just not much chance right now, due to cash flow. I just hope there is paperwork with them, with exact track breakdowns. I know where others are too. Gotta play the lottery this friday. JR If I win, I'll be in touch!!!

QuoteWeLoveYou SFM and Parachute Woman were probably done as follows... Interesting points! I reckon the tape machine tracks were recorded as follows... PW - guitar, drums and possibly harmonica SFM - guitar, sitar and drums There is a continual twanging sitar in there, you just got to listen real carefully. JJF - acoustic guitar(s), drums. The very first guitar has the tape

I'm glad you came back Mock, cos what you posted is kind of inspiring, perhaps a little bit rose tinted though, but anyway it's made me go back and listen more! After listening to some live 67 recordings, Brian's guitar playing is a lot tougher than one might expect, so, yeah I think I can get my head around the possibility that he did indeed play the lead lines on JJF a year

You know, I'd probably be unable to tell the difference between the douglas and the kramer reissues, but I think my exposure to the douglas remasters was not a pleasant one as it was the first time I heard Hendrix on CD after a few years of listening to hendrix on vinyl. I recall being freaked out at how separated and clean everything sounded and I think I'd read some books on Hendr

QuoteMock Jogger His Majesty would never have said anything like that if he would not have mixed his ideas of Brian's state at the time NE was recorded with what he actually hears on the track. Just as he never would even have considered there was a tape-cassette machine recorded part on JJF, if he had not read Keith saying that. Of course His Majesty doesn't hear such a part or any aco

Hah, man that is a looooong post!!! I've never read according to... only flicked through it and put it back down. You seem to miss the fact that Brian is my favourite stones musician, has been for years and probably always will be, so I am not biased or swayed by 'anti Brian' opinions. Working out parts and then trying to see who played them and what they may have used i

Ok, sorry to bring this one up again, but Bill claims to have written the riff for JJF, fair enough, the lyrics and main melody appear to have been Mick and Keith's creation thus their Jagger - Richard credit still stands. Anyway, Bill also says in Stone Alone that Keith admitted in interviews that Bill did indeed write the riff, so, has anyone ever read such an interview!? I've

My pet hate with Bill's book is that he has spring 69 pics of the band in amongst the beggars banquet chapters. Not so bad I guess as it seems nearly every single book that has them makes the same mistake. I browsed through 'according to' at a book store ages ago, but I left it sitting there as it seemed to have a fair number of the same ol' story's that just don

I'd suggest avoiding the alan douglas era CD re-releases where he changed the covers etc. The current Experience Hendrix releases sound fine to me, obviously they sound far cleaner etc to the original vinyl stuff though.
