POST: All Sold Out - Extended Version with Vocals!
Posted by: Sleepy City ()

As may collectors will know, the outtake backing track of 'All Sold Out' is about 30 seconds longer than the released vocal version (approx 2:47 instead of 2:17). Well here's the longer backing track synced with vocals all the way through!

ENJOY... : )

Thanks.

I tried to do the same with Jump On Top Of Me few months ago but it didn't quite work.

A prob with this sort of stuff is where do you stop? I like a nice smooth ending & the backing version just peters out. I've spliced in the last verse of the vocal version on top of the backing @ the end to get the fade out. I thought I might have to edit out some of the backing @ the end, but no, it all fits nicely.

Working with these you really notice the differences between the works in progress & the final product. The backing has a lot more bottom end which is lost in the final mix. Combining the 2 & you get a gutsier track.

Yes, I've noticed this with all the Between The Buttons backing tracks. I'll upload some more in a day or two.

So do we think "Please Go Home" was recorded immediately before or after this tune that day?

Amazing similarities in guitar sounds.

They didn't do 'All Sold Out' (or 'Please Go Home') in Vienna in '67...did they?

That would possibly result in some very weird sound.

Sounds good vancouver.

The main prob with Vienna '67 is that both recordings are quite poor & it's difficult seeing exactly what's going on. For syncing to work it has to be exact, a couple of micro-seconds difference & you have flanging, a bit more you have phasing, a bit more & it's reverberation & finally a bit more & you have echo.

The 2 recordings have to be exactly the same speed, & again, it's difficult seeing any distinct markers on the 2 sine waves to be able to measure them both & adjust accordingly, you can't see Charlie's drumbeat which is a very useful marker. If you can see that on both recordings you have one specific sine wave you can measure to & that is as exact as you're going to get. No go on these recordings so you have to guestimate a bit.

Playing along with both versions of, say, The Last Time, they're both almost in tune but given the poor quality of both, Which one to adjust?

Finally, you're going to get a two-channel recording, not 'stereo' as we know it.

I've tried a couple of times with Last Time but haven't got the right speed adjustment yet.

I won't go into the problems when you get exact markers @ the start & finish of 2 trax, adjust the speed so that they line up @ both ends, & then find out that one of them has speed problems inside the song so that they keep going in & out of sync...
