QuotejosepiQuestion... I seem to recall that the album version of Under Assistant is a bit different than the single version on the US Satisfaction B-side. Am I remembering this correctly? If so, was it a completely different version or just a different mix? Thanks in advance to anyone who can supply the answer. You´ll find it here:

QuoteRedhotcarpet QuoteAquamarine Bought the UK version on the day it was released, King Bee and Mona were my favorites from the start--I still can't believe they dropped Mona for the US release. Insanity, I tell you. Insanity yes but also a serious offense to the mind if you ask me. Mona, a real Diddley song, performed by five guys who doesn't sound like five guys but some ancient

Quoteash I think there are around 80 ish (?) concerts/radio show appearances in circulation. Absolutely anything from mid 69 to may 1970 is guaranteed brilliant. I am a big Peter Green fan - he was the best with the possible exception of Jimi. He was also a truly fine singer and songwriter. When the band started dropping the blues mimic stuff and began stretching out (sidelining 3rd guitarist Je

Quoteash Wonder if West Coast Assistant will be the "break my ass" version. Nice as it looks, wouldn't it have been cool if they could have put out the unreleased first version of Satisfaction too assuming the tapes still exist ?

Quotewith sssoul Ethan Russell says (quite insistently) that the shoot took place in the winter of 1968. May 1969 seems more likely to me but perhaps there were two shoots. Maybe it was a cold May-day...

Yes, thanks for posting this, paulspendel! The date was May 21, 1969. This is what Bill wrote in Stone Alone about it: ...we attracted people with original ideas, such as the photographer Ethan Russell. For the cover of Through The Past Darkly technicians had been at St Katherine´s Dock, next to Tower Bridge, from 8.30 a.m. on 21 May, setting up a hydraulic platform. We lay on the gr

Thanks, Videojames! In great James Karnbach 1997 book The Complete Recording Guide to the Rolling Stones (aka It´s Only Rock´n´Roll The Ultimate Recording Guide...) there is, in addition to Sure I Do, another 1963 track - I Want You To Know - that also may have been written by Brian. Do you have any more info on that?

QuoteNaturalust Probably been discussed here before but I recall some quotes from Andy Johns claiming he was mostly responsible for MT leaving the Stones. I guess they were pretty close starting in the Exile in France and by the GHS time Andy was always hearing Taylor complaining and wanting to leave. He apparently not only convinced Jack Bruce that Taylor was right for his new band but also spec

Re the Wild Horses version: This has been available on boots for many years, and the most probable info is this: early 1970: Los Angeles, unidentified studio. Overdubs, supervised by Denny Cordell, on a tape sent to L.A. by the Stones via London: Sneaky Pete Kleinow on pedal steel, Leon Russell on organ (from Nico Zentgraf´s site)

Quotemitch QuoteDeltics It was included as a one-sided, blank label single in early editions of the German compilation "The Rest Of The Best" (Decca 6.30125) in 1983 and very quickly withdrawn. This release has always intrigued me . Did they use the original master for this german release? I may be wrong but I doubt it. Is the sound quality therefore superior to the widely cir

An absolutely superb document of the early Stones! Mick is great, Brian really shines on Mona and Cops And Robbers, Keith rules on Route 66 - Bill and Charlie ain´t bad either...>< Too bad the official release is "hidden" in the super deluxe GRRR box. (You Better Move On is a clunker, though - never listen to it anymore.)
