QuoteDandelionPowderman Quote71Tele This is interesting for a whole host of reasons, not the least of which is hearing Brian quote Dylan. But it sort of flies in the face of the myth perpetrated about him later: That he was not engaged in the group's activities or decision-making, etc. He certainly seems very thoughtful about what the group is doing. Thanks for posting. Yeah, but th

Can´t choose just one, so here´s 20 essential tracks: 1. I Wanna Be Your Man (slide guitar, harmony vocals) 2. Mona (tremolo guitar) 3. Not Fade Away (harmonica) 4. Good Times, Bad Times (harmonica) 5. It´s All Over Now (rhythm guitar) 6. I Can´t Be Satisfied (slide guitar) 7. Look What You´ve Done (harmonica) 8. Little Red Rooster (slide guitar) 9. No Brian on bass on any recording, as far as known... Listen to the basic takes of 2000 Light Years on the Satanic Sessions box, and you´ll find that Keith plays electric guitar and Bill bass (Brian on mellotron). Then compare to the released track - it´s Bill on bass! Wikipedia is not to be trusted as being 100% correct.

Quotetriceratops QuoteJayce Here is the original from 1969. It was the B side to "Something Better," which is the song she sang at the "Rock and Roll Circus.": video: Anyone know the personnel on this track with Marianne Faithful. No Ry Cooder it seems. RCA Studios, July 1968 (Vocals probably overdubbed at Olympic, January 1969) Mick Jagger - acoustic guitar Ry Coode

I definitely agree that the arrangements are crucial to making a great track! Quite interesting is that the first Stones album not to have the "Arranged by the Rolling Stones" credit is Beggars Banquet. Either Mick and Keith didn´t allow as much input as before, or Brian/Bill/Charlie didn´t (couldn´t/wouldn´t?) contribute as much anymore...

While we wait... Here´s what journalist Keith Altham said after hearing some of Brian´s recordings: (NME October 21, 1966) Brian played me some of the experiments in sound he has been conducting in the privacy of his home, but impressed on me that they were purely personal attempts and that the mixing and dubbing effects were far from perfect. He seemed enthusiastic, but embarrassed

QuoteHis Majesty 1968 Jones - Supposedly plays guitar on Jumoin' Jack Flash, but it's just guess work as to what he played. Soprano saxophone on Child of the Moon (most likely) the harmonica on Dear Doctor (possibly) the main harmonica heard through the track on Parachute Woman Mellotron on Jigsaw Puzzle Sitar and tamboura on Street Fighting Man Mellotron on Stray Cat Blues

Unheard original material. Bits and pieces of songs or nothing at all. I would keep the identity of the owner confidential. There were people who made sure Brian's 1969 tapes vanished from the face of

Superb song and recording, of course! What some still seem to be missing is that the available early version is NOT by the Stones, but by Leon Russell with Mick Jagger: It was released as a bonus track on the DCC gold-CD of Russell´s self-titled 1970 album. Recorded at Olympic, Sep/Oct 1969, according to the booklet. It´s titled (Can´t Seem To) Get A Line On You on the cover, and Shine A L

QuoteHis Majesty Some great details none of us managed to get, but also some terrible clunkers with regards to photo dates and dates of when things happened (Cooder jamming at Redlands for example), who played what and what certain instruments are on their recordings. Great to see some of their guitars up close, especially the Maton. Much of it is iorr Ratbag Boogie threads in book form t

Not seeing them in Stockholm 1970... I was 15 and my parents wouldn´t drive me there. (It was a 2-hour drive at the most) Neither would my friends´ folks, and we didn´t dare to go by train or bus on our own... Then when they return to Sweden in 1973 I wasn´t particularly interested - then I was into prog mostly, and thought Exile ang GHS wasn´t that great... So my first time was 1982, w

Quotedrewmaster A sparkling track off one of their most under-rated albums. It’s got that wonderful, loping, terrifically funky disco/reggae beat, a great melody, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, marvelous rhythmic interplay between Charlie and Bill, and superb Caribbean-flavored guitar-work from Ronnie and Keith. On top of it all, you gotta love Mick’s sly performance, especially those little squeals of

...or they simply decided (correctly, imo) that Keith´s was the better version! Mick was back from the Ned Kelly filming in mid-September, so that would have nothing to do with it - still time enough to finish the album, which they did in late October/early November.

Quotehowled But this "don't know" thing would also apply to Paint It Black (and other songs) where Brian could have overdubbed the Sitar after playing piano. If we go down the "don't know" path, how do we know Mick is really singing and not a Mick impersonator. Maybe the cleaner at the studio played bass. I've read some Brian heads that think it's

The double bass by Bill and Keith is an overdub. If the recorder is an overdub, Brian could have played the piano on the basic track (along with Keith on acoustic, Bill on bass and Charlie on drums). We don´t really know...

QuoteDandelionPowderman Brian may very well have played the piano on RT, for reasons we don't know. Maybe Keith was busy putting the track together arrangement-wise, and Jack wasn't there - we don't know PS: But it sure is interesting speculating Maybe Keith AND Brian were busy putting the backing track together arrangement-wise, and that´s why Brian played piano...
