I wanted to enjoy it live but at Maine Road in 1990, Bill and Charlie seemed to be playing a different song. Could have been the live mix?

I think the 'set us up so they can shoot us down' bridge has a very strong melody so 'stinker' is an unfair description. You may not like the track but is has a good tune.

i loved the song from Malta ,,and hope that amazing young lady finds further success. Watching Switzerland and Italy fight it out, only to be trumped at the last by Italy was like seeing Rembrandt and Van Gogh being out-voted by a potato print. The winning 'song' had a serviceable riff and was performed with commendable brio, but I struggle to hear a 'song' there....

I'm sure you're right, yearsinthemaking. I don't think the answer to your question has ever been disclosed. I did read somewhere that Summer Romance was planned as track one side one at one point, but that doesn't get us very far. Anyone know?

Do I want to see them live again? Based on Manchester? The first hour no, the second hour yes. The difference being that the second hour didn't change from show to show and ran like clockwork. They would do better to rehearse a really strong first half, stick with it and get it right than fumble through 'rarities' that are poor imitations of what they once were. And please, no B

Taylor 1 if we’re talking about the lyrics I can’t disagree in all honesty ) but musically I find Fool to Cry compelling - except for the horrendously butchered version on some compilations. I love the build up of FTC In the last minute whereas IYRWTBMF just sort of dribbles on ...

Can’t believe they recorded something so awful as this and so great as Fool to Cry in the same era. It’s plush, shallow tosh. Compared to other side two track three songs it’s an embarrassment. Sister Morphine? Stray Cst Blues? Plus Mick seeks to be telling his partner to ‘stop whining and let me shag around’ which is not exactly admirable.

I never liked it The guitar sound is so bland - they don’t cut through. Similar riffs on ‘Fight’ are much more exciting because the guitars aren’t muffled like they are here. The vocal is distant too. As Keith Richards described the making of Undercover, ‘we took turns to piss around with the tapes’ . ‘Too Tough’ seems to have suffered from that process. A weak track among many on a weak albu

Dunno about that. They certainly did record some very similar shouty rants at that time. On this one, before he bellows the title line,Jagger appears to shout 'Bad Sailor' several times. Is it really a song about a below-par seaman, or can anyone decipher it?

A 60th anniversary release of unreleased material would make sense to me but most (not all, but most) of the 'fully finished' outtakes are NOT fully finished. They needed editing (e.g. 'Dogshit' - which also needs a proper title) and they need a focused vocal with proper lyrics. We, my fellow anoraks, may be acclimatised to Jagger's 'vowel movements' but ordi

I like his focus on the music. So many album reviews I read these days seem to talk about the lyrics and little else. However I'm astounded to see BTB mentioned in them same breath as Blonde on Blonde. Its nowhere near as good. Jon Landau's judgement has always been questionable. After all, this is the guy who let Bruce put out 'Human Touch'

I think the studio version is an under achiever. Like much of ER it sounds a little sterile; the guitars are tentative when they might have been bold. When the guitars clashed discordantly during SSC at Sheffield in 06 my wife gave me a pained look.’Yep’ I nodded ‘it was like this in Glasgow’ Luckily it started to rain. Keef responded to the soaking like a parched pot plant (come to think of it

Thank you KRifffhard, Yes that's the version of 'Lies' I meant. Better quality than I'd heard before According to Barbara Charone's biography of Keith, Ian Stewart walked out of the studio in Paris around this time, complaining 'They sound like bloody Status Quo'. I wonder if this track was the one that sent him over the edge?

I've stood up for Dirty Work over and over here, so i won't waste time trying to persuade those who don't get it. Instead I'll mention my one gripe, and that's the drumming. 'One Hit' as 'Gotdablouse' described above starts thrillingly but then the drumming is pedestrian, almost lifeless. I believe Charlie was out of sorts and so various drummers sat i
