It saddened me Bjornulf, to hear of the measures you have felt it necessary to take in order to keep yourself safe. I check this site every day and I derive immense pleasure from doing so Thank you for all you do

Yes and it sounded great. i was watching with my surround sound on the tv and the rhythm guitar just behind my left ear was loud and clear - in fact it sounded so good i wondered if it was a new 5.1 mix?

Jagger isn't singing about a rival, He's singing about a young man taking his daughter away. And he realises that in the long run,it serves him right. He describes the young man in ways that resemble his younger self, having it off with people's lovely young daughters. Now he's the protective father figure. A neat little song about how your perspective changes with time. What

Mathijs Not sure where you get ‘tough guy working guy’ from? - I’ve been a Bruce fan for 45 years and I don’t recognise that description. Unless you saw a poster from Born in the USA and looked no closer. Try side two of ‘The wild the innocent and the E street shuffle’ Nothing ‘tough guy’ about that - just wonderful music )

At the time of Black and Blue the Stones' rockers were especially brutal and the ballads especially feather-weight,in a good way. The Stones were like Muhammed Ali - they floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee. The tenderness of Fool to Cry set up Crazy Mama perfectly. What a great value 7" single that was! I love the way Fool to Cry builds and builds. Sure the lyrics are

Sounds great to me! That sounds very much like the Rolling Stones at the their glorious lolloping best. If it's another track on the next album I'll be a happy boy. Oh, and yes, the news is anti Trump. Its also anti-hatred, anti-lies, anti-sexual assault, anti-bullying, anti-complacency in the face of a deadly pandemic, anti-cosying up to dictators, anti-racist, anti-hypocrisy, anti-

It's a good song but I think Mick over-eggs it, with a heavily mannered vocal like he did with Following the River. It's over polished too, like e.g.Already Over Me. It needs to be a bit scruffier i.e some ragged back up vox from Keith, to give it that Stones feel. If he'd stop making demos, give the band his ideas and let them work out an arrangement we'd get a better track I

I think we need to talk about specific tracks. Charlie plays very well on Black and Blue, but no-one escapes 'Cherry Oh Baby' with any credit LOL I just now listed to 'Sparks Will Fly' and enjoyed the drums on that actually...

Fantastic album. I thought I knew the blues but most of the songs were new to me so it was just like having a proper new Stones album. They should do Vol 2 once they've put out the much delayed next record.

When Face Dances came out I remember listening to a radio interview with Roger Daltrey, possibly on Capital Radio. I won't try to spell the name of the guy (Bill something) who produced the album but I believe he had produced the Eagles? Daltrey said the band had recorded a great rock song with a title (and I'm recalling this from one listen 39 years ago so i may have it slightly wrong)

It doesn't break any new ground but I'm just grateful to hear the E Street Band motor purring. Reminds me of This Hard Land and of several of the songs on Western Stars. I've been moved by Bruce's book, Broadway show and Western Stars as a trilogy of sorts, but I'm ready for Bruce to move on. My only reservation about this songs is it seems to cover the same emotional ter

Jagger sounds like a VERY drunk Tom Waits on the bootleg to me! I much prefer his very witty and very well sung lyric on the Some Girls deluxe version and I like the playing better and of course the sound quality. Some people will always prefer the bootlegs. Maybe they like the feeling of being 'in the know', like the well intentioned fellow at a record fair years ago who told me that

Has anyone seen a track by track comparison between 1973 and 2020 mixes? I’d love to read one. I personally think Giles Martin should receive a knighthood.

I like your presentation Quietbeatle, but there are some songs on there that aren't my favourites. It's all about personal taste of course. Here's my track listing for a parallel 'Honk'. Perhaps I should call it 'Buzz' or 'Parp'LOL 1. Scarlet 2. Claudine 3. So Divine 4. Criss Cross 5. Drift Away 6. Do You Think I Really Care? 7. So Yo

I finally listened to the remix... and I'm so happy. Mr D is more funky 100 years ago is more lyrical Coming Down Again is even more emotive Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo rocks harder... and so on and forth. A great album just got greater - terrific job Mr Martin- easily the best of the expanded reissues so far. Now, what I want next is a proper release of 'I Don't Know the

I've never heard a decent quality recording of LITHOL so it's hard to be fair to it, but what i have heard sounds a bit stiff. So Divine has a churning, murky feel, akin to Dancing with Mr D which makes not a better fit IMHO. Its all a matter for personal taste as ever. I am slowly compiling an alternative 'Honk' comprising all these all these outtakes and b sides from 72

If you're looking to create an album of non album/unreleased tracks from 73-74 in listenable quality, I'd prefer: 1. Criss cross 2. Plundered My Soul 3. Pass the Wine 4. I Ain’t Signifying 5. Heartbreaker instrumental 6. Scarlet 7. So Divine 8. Through the Lonely Nights 9. Drift away 10. All the Rage

What we still don't know - and it's all I care about in this context is this: Has Giles Martin's remix cleared away the murk that spoiled the original album? A clearer sharper GHS would be wonderful. And a better drum sound would be nice. On Silver Train the snare sounds like a chop stick hitting a wet paper bag. Can't wait for Friday.... and I hope I'm not disapp

I love this song! Like Barbara Charone said in Sounds at the time: 'the whole song moves like Keith Richards'. It would be a dream to see it live except Mick seems unable to sing it live with the outrageous balls-to-the wall aggression that he managed on record. On those rare occasion when it gets played he seems to kind of half speak it in a Muddy Waters style which robs the song of

I just heard the War on Drugs version. Much as I respect Bruce Rowlands (I think he played with Ronnie Lane?) When I first heard 'Scarlet, the drums sounded to me like a wardrobe repeatedly falling downstairs. On this WOD remix, with all that crashing and banging removed, I rather enjoy Scarlet as a simple pop tune. The harsh guitar tone still grates on me but this is the first Stones r

It's a weird thing. I would say that Let It Bleed is 100 x better quality than ER but I listen to ER far more often. so which should I say I prefer? Nick Kent's review of ER in NME in 1980 made some good observations: "the Stones have nothing pressing to deal with. Jagger sings draped in a variety of poses" He even changes accent from alabama to clapham and back agai

I was at Manchester and although Start Me Up was almost inaudible (the same thing happened to Born in the USA when Bruce started up at Roundhay - can anyone shed light in the technology of the period and why this happened?) the rest of the gig was great. I was also at Wembley August 25th - Bill’s final gig. The energy level in the stadium was incredible. The Stones were awesome that night. ‘82 wa
