Thanks SNC, I'll check them out. Sounds like you have some reasonable prices where you are. Here, HMV and Zavvi are still charging £50 for Four Flicks. Unbelievable. I'll probably hold off until after Xmas.

Gazza Perhaps the Stones fall down by trying to please everybody all the time? Trouble is, their catalogue is so huge, they simply can't do it justice in 2hrs. Compromises have been made. A year ago, The South Bank Centre ran a series of shows where bands would play one of their classic albums in it's entirety. They could give that a try - just do a few venues - make sure its f

We do certainly like to swear over here! It has become a lot more common to hear the dreaded c*nt in public. One of my Irish buddies used to use c*nt a lot. You can into a pub and hear the usual Tourette's cases who just can't stop saying f@ck. Everyother word is f@ck. Again, some people do take offence but the days are long gone when people stop you in the street and say "

QuoteGazza well..thats probably the reality to a degree, but the counter argument is to ask why it should be like that and why the band seem happy to pander to it... The RS may have a consensus that they shouldn't disappoint the fans (especially those who are paying $450). Is sponsorship an issue? I'm not privy to any sponsorship contracts but there could well be an understanding

QuoteGlam Descendant >I would have thought small venues might show up any deficiences in their musical abilities even more, as would live (or recorded) TV shows - which they have never been keen on. SHINE A LIGHT? The Stones have given more than their fair share of their artistic selves -- asking more at this stage is not just greedy, it's... predatory. No arguments here as to

Gazza and Doxa are on the money imho. The tour is undoubtedly the big cash cow. The album is just a bit of extra product which gives some credibility to the need to go and tour again. The RS' motives for undertaking such massive tours are frequently questioned when they have a new album. To tour without any new material would just lay them open to claims that they were just doing it for

Quotemarcovandereijk So, my conclusion: there is no point to post any kind of request for whatever output by the Stones, unless you request the same old proven non risk kind of shows we all know by heart. You're probably right. Let's look at it from business manager perspective - they can certainly still shift the product (as the 2.5M unit sales of ABB demonstrates) and they can sti

It is a total injustice that to this day, we still don't know who was behind his murder. I've read a fair bit of the assassination literature and my take is that he was killed by secret CIA assassination program called Operation 40 that was designed to kill Castro. Many of the alleged participants in the assassination were members of Operation 40..including E Howard Hunt (later

To be fair, old bands like the Stones, with their familiar canon of classics, are often stuck on the horns of dilemma. For example, my parents saw The Everly Brothers many years ago. When they announced they were going to play some new music, they were actually booed. As idiotic as I find that, there will always be that element of fans, old and young alike, who only want to hear the greatest h

They have such a wonderfully diverse catalogue of music that could form the basis of a really interesting show/tour. These guys are in the evening of their career, they have nothing to lose by going out on a limb for once and taking a bit of chance. So many of their classic era defining songs have just been ruined by overplay. I don't need to hear BS, YCAGWYW, GS etc etc etc played live a

Who knows the true motivations of any of these people? They will certainly all have different reasons for doing what they do. The Stones recent albums are not that good yet, paradoxically, their tours still pack 'em in. Presumably the public are really only interested in a greatest hits package and the usual stage theatrics. Theatrics which shouldn't really be necessary. I suggest

How about a small tour in which they only play b-sides and non-single album tracks along with a healthy smattering of their own personal faves/solo stuff. Wouldn't it be refreshing to have RW do a few of his tunes or have KR dust off a few from his CDs? Heck, maybe the audience would even endure a few of MJ's offerings too? ;-) I think they have more left in them than another greates

The fact that the Stone sstill undertake gruellingly long tours when many of their peers will have retired to the back garden is evidence that they are not lazy. However, I think one has to accept that they are very wealthy, living legends who simply don't have the pressure on them to pump out a new album every year. As for the Stones trying something a new direction, don't bank on

Altho my Dad is about the same age as the RS, he never bought any of their LPs, thought they were a poor English blues cover band and that no one had made any "real" rock n roll since 1959. I grew up in a house that played Elvis, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Gene Vincent and so on. Parents don't need to push their musical tastes onto their children. Their children w

That 72/73 site looks like a great resource, thanks for posting Silver Dagger! re L&G - at least two entire shows must have been originally filmed as L&G cuts between them. The question is whether the raw footage was preserved or disposed of. Presumably Robert Frank also filmed a show to get the live footage for CS Blues? So there is the possibility that much more exists. Maybe a w

I guess the flipside is - when the band becomes deeply involved in track selection for a live DVD, they may not want duff tracks to be released....even tho fans just want to see a complete live show. Yes very annoying! Stones are not that well served in terms of DVDs imo. Not sure what the reason/problem for not releasing anything from the 70s is.

When truncated versions of the pro shot MSG footage appeared on the officially released Dick Cavett show DVD a few years back, I emailed the production to ask if they had access to the full pro-shot show. They wouldn't confirm or deny its existence...which sounded like yes to me. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking?!
