Quotetreaclefingers Quote1969Fan If the Stones do record a new album, anything they do, no matter how well it may stand on its own, will be compared to what they recorded 1968-1971. I don't know why they would put themselves in that position. They have nothing to win and everything to lose. This is an opinion...I don't have any insight to the Stones or the music business...but IMHO

Quotedcba Quote1969Fan When I heard Lisa sing on Twenty Feet From Stardom, I turned to my wife and said, "What the hell is she doing singing with the Rolling Stone?" To which my wife, who is a very good singer, replied, "She got a set of pipes on her." Maybe LF pulled a "Wyman" on the band : she realized she had sucked everything she could from the band ($$$ + fame

By keeping those of us who don't have the resources or the ability to track the Stones, BV is doing all of us a great favor. In this case not just the upcoming SA tour dates, but by providing this forum for us to read, enjoy, and ocassionally argue over. Well done, BV, and well done if there is a Mrs. BV.

Again, IMHO for us old farts, Brussels is the peak of the live Richards / Taylor recorded performances, rivaled only by Ya Ya's. Why can't the powers that be simply release the Bob Clearmountain Brussels mix on a CD? Let's start a movement. Brussels on CD! Brussels on CD! Bussels on CD! Brussels on CD! Brussels on CD!

I read on another IORR thread that Brussels is in the cue for a From the Vaults release. IMHO it has some of the best live Stones recordings ever. Period. End of conversation. Does anyone out there who is smarter than me know when, or if, it will be available to the masses as a CD? Or an affordable LP? I'm talking about the Bob Clearmountain mix. I have the KBFH quad mix on an audio-only DVD

QuoteMacLaurens Quote1969Fan I read Eric Clapton wanted the job after Mick Taylor left, but that his ego prevented him from letting it be known. Eric Clapton and Keith Richards. I wonder where that would have gone? Interesting! Where did you read that? I don't recall where I read it... a lot has been written about the Stones over the years...but the article included Keith saying that in

This story confirms my experience on how approachable the Stones were in the late 1960s and the 1970s. I, like anyone else, put them on a pedestal and figured they were protected by layers of people who were paid to insulate them from the rest of us. Perhaps they were, but when I was able, through circumstances and no particular charm or appeal of my own, was able to get past the layers, the band

If you like Breaking Bad, and I noticed House of Cards in there too...both excellent television...check out Ray Donovan. The only problem with Ray Donovan is that it's not on 52 weeks / year. Other than that, excellent! I grew up during the so-called "Golden Age of Television". IMHO the shows HBO, Amazon, AMC, Netflix, and others are offering today make today the Golden Age of Tele

I saw him open for the Stones at the Denver Coliseum, June 1972. The last song in in his set was 'For Once In My Life'. He had the entire audience about 3' off the floor. 'The joint was rocking.' After Stevie and his band left the stage, the lights came up and towers of speakers rose up on either side of the stage. The audience, still vibrating from what they had just hea

Quotenoughties Oh, you just gotta hear this one for good measure. It`s nor Percy Faith, but equally a part of that sountrack to my childhood: Theme From A Summer Place? Yes, an early 1960s classic. This one? Sorry, noughties. I guess that's what makes a horse race.

As one who started the 1960s as a Clueless White Kid From Glendale about to enter the 8th grade, and who ended the 1960s leaving the LA Forum early the morning of Nov 9 1969 having just seen the Stones live for the first time, I still carry around a sweet spot for Theme From A Summer Place. It was The Song of the Summer of 1960. It was a very innocent time for many of us who were about to wake up

QuoteRockman I didn't see any reference in the text that this was Keith's car. But it's the same beautiful body style of the Bentley Continental Keith had at Montauk during the 1975 TOTA rehearsals. Mick's Mercedes 300SEL was there as well. The hotel tour manifests read, Michael Benz, Keith Bentley, Charlie Ford, and Bill Chevrolet.

QuoteNaturalust Quote1969Fan QuoteNaturalust Quoteflilflam Does anyone know why the Stones preferred this studio, when it was probably more convenient for them to have recorded in London or New York City, both of which probably possessed much better technology? They probably loved the sound of the Artists who had cut tracks there. It was gaining some what of a reputation for that distinctness.

QuoteIrisC I loved Steel Wheels! I was glad to see the band not doped up and sounding terrible. 1978 was awful, and 1981 not much better. Still love the boys don't get me wrong. The Stones are the greatest rock and roll band in the world! My favorite. One of my most memorable moments at a Stones show was LA 1981. It was festival seating, and a young(er) guy...maybe in his late teens early

When I had the privilege of assisting their Tour photographer during rehearsals for the 1975 Tour, Keith had given Mick a guitar for his birthday. It was either a Strat or a Tele...I can't remember which. One night as they were playing, Keith came up behind Mick and placed Mick's fingers on the frets to help him get a particular song right. It was a very tender and touching moment. As f

IMHO the LYL version of Around and Around has some of the best guitar work I've ever heard in a Stones recording...live or studio. It's firmly ensconced in my all time top 10 list of Rolling Stones recordings. Again...IMHO.

QuoteWinning Ugly VXII Quotejamesfdouglas I've always felt this way, whatever you use to play music on, it's only ever going to sound as good as the speakers you use will allow. If your speakers are only allowing a certain level of sound quality, there may well be a problem. Anyway,to make a long story short, for better or for worse, good speakers will expose a bad source and high

Quoteshattered Does anyone remember or seen any 16 rpm's? 16 2/3 rpm records were used to lengthen the playing time available on each side of the disc. Lo-fi, but it worked on speech and other recorded material where fidelity was not paramount. The industry also used to record on 16" discs at 33 1/3 rpm. These were often used to transcribe radio shows (Bing Crosby, etc) for playback o

Quotemidnrambler Yes treaclafingers, you are right. The "DSD Remastered" recordings are (were) available both as SACDs (in digipaks) and as normal CDs (in usual Jewel Cases): top: SACD, bottom: normal CD The DSD remasters are in jewel cases and they are CDs. Better quality than the original CDs. The ABKCO Stones' 2002 SACDs were in digipaks. There is no printed reference t

Around 1977 Annie Leibovitz, the Stones' 1975 tour photographer, told me she was Hannah in Memory Motel, and that she was honored to be so. Annie was ( and I suspect still is) not a person who feels it necessary to brag about herself. I believe her.
