Is the Brussels Affair Japan CD higher quality than digital download? TIA

I remember some people here saying these CD´s are brickwalled and worse than the download-version.

That's not correct. My cd sounds wonderful. In fact, we had a thread where I posted samples of the vinyl, cd and the download for comparison. I'll see if I can dig that one up.

The CD's are louder (and thus more brickwalled) than the FLAC download.

Someone needs to rip the vinyl in 24/96Khz audiophile qualitysmiling smiley

It's not automatically brickwalled just because it's louder. Vinyl is always mastered at lower volumes than cds. A real lab mastering process, that is.

The original download for Brussels 73 came with DR9-11 while the new CD is only DR5-8. And it is definitevely louder. (numbers from old thread [www.iorr.org])

The good thing - they cleaned digital clicks for Angie. When Brussels was released as a digital download a number of users (Honestman, UrbanSteel) reported digital clicks in Angie. I can hear those clicks at 0.36, 0.43, 1.23, 1.26, 1.32 and 1.39 for digital download version. They sound like surface vinyl pops or electrical discharge - cable contact. That issue was discussed at the old thread at this forum.

I gave a close listen to Angie from Japanese Ward CD version an apparently some of those pops disappear. At least I can't hear pops at 0.36, 1.26 and 1.39.

You're right about the clicks. They could easily be fixed with software like iZotope.

I read on another IORR thread that Brussels is in the cue for a From the Vaults release. IMHO it has some of the best live Stones recordings ever. Period. End of conversation. Does anyone out there who is smarter than me know when, or if, it will be available to the masses as a CD? Or an affordable LP? I'm talking about the Bob Clearmountain mix. I have the KBFH quad mix on an audio-only DVD. It's nice, but I doubt it's as clean as the 'official' mix. This ain't rocket science.

They don't have video of Brussels, so it probably won't be one of the From The Vault releases.

Not sure that there is not a video of Brussels.
Especially the 1st show (for "the French", as the Stones were banned from France at this date) for wich we have some sequencies under the title "RTL train".

IMHO, both shows were recorded, audion + video.

Re: From the vault Marquee + Brussels Affair 1973 (Japan LTD BD)

The audio was recorded since they were planning a live album release. Mick even worked on it, having overdubs recorded. It was aired with overdubs on radio in the 80s.

But I have never heard about it being professionally filmed other than for a news flash. If you think otherwise, would you care to elaborate?

The original FLAC download sounds better than the CD. The CD is not bad though. Just louder... I wish they'd release the hi-res version (the one used for the vinyl) of Brussels though. That would be the definitive version to own...

Nope, only audio. There's about 5 minutes of silent, B&W footage filmed by RTL, that's it.

Again, IMHO for us old farts, Brussels is the peak of the live Richards / Taylor recorded performances, rivaled only by Ya Ya's. Why can't the powers that be simply release the Bob Clearmountain Brussels mix on a CD?

Let's start a movement. Brussels on CD! Brussels on CD! Bussels on CD! Brussels on CD! Brussels on CD!

Mathijs; i do'nt agree.

Look at the very short sequence ==> [marcmandel.blogspot.fr]

There use to have something longer, about 10-15 minutes.
But it seems no longer available on youtube and eslsewhere.
I'll look into my archives.
But for sure, all was filmed BUT never surfaced (maybe lost somewhere!!)

I'd prefer a better mix/hard copy release of the Fonda show first actually. You can always make your own CD from the flac downloads of Brussels. What exactly are you expecting from a separate CD release?

As far as the possibility of a video of this show existing, perhaps VideoJames has some information.

Brussels is not ONLY released at the Ward Records site.
You just can buy it together with The Marquee on cd in Japan at Amazon for example. If you want it, you can get it.

Betcha that Brussels Affair 1973 becomes available as a stand alone CD IN UK/EU/USA etc in future. Not so optimistic about live in England 1965 though.

Technically, Brussels 1973 could be easily used for "future GHS deluxe".

Live in England 65 is a killer but I also can not imagine stand alone release at the moment. Although, there was a significant price drop on the secondary market for CIMD superdeluxe boxes some time ago. I got my sealed (well, almost sealed, because the plastic on one corner was damaged) for 45 Euros.

A GHS deluxe would be so nice!
And hopefully with a book with a collection of the iconic photos from the European '73 tour (no photo from that tour was included in the big Taschen-book).
