Saw them at Royal Festival Hall a few years back. How 4 guys stood at laptops with a video screen could conjure up such a wonderfull gig is breathtaking. Two original members left if i,m not mistaken. There was a feature on this on the Culture Show this week, missed it, mush check out the "red button" or catch the repeat.

It's not great, if there was any atmosphere on the day, its not captured, maybe the nature of venue and being shot in full daylight didnt help. I saw him at the RAH on the Gracelands tour and he was excellent. Also saw him a few years back at the Hammersmith Apollo ( 2nd row centre) and he was even better, one of the best live bands I've witnessed and he covered his whole career, unlike

On paper maybe not the most exciting set list, but Neil ROCKED yet again, great band and Ben Keith played with Hank WIlliams, now thats history. " A Day In The Life " could only have been bettered if Macca himself turned up, joined in and turned on.

Cant recall off hand, but I can find out. The Art Gallery that shows Bill's stuff did a poster in the style of a Boxing Match Flyer after the fall out, JAck slapped an injunction on it. I see if I can scan mine and show it. Yes your righte about TOTPs, original plan was for Billy to do a painting while they played, BBC said NO. Yes Kurt was a fan, as he was of one of my other fave band

oh they were all real GOONERS, i recall at the time (over 25 yrs ago) they had a few youth players lodging with them. Instead of asking all the usual questions, like " were you really offered the Led Zeppelin stool" What was Joe Meek really like" i just said "oh you played on the first Lou Reed solo album" he was apparntly offered the Zepp job ( him and John Paul J

I think Joe Meek, would have been one of the first folks on Holloway Rd, to have a sattelite dish on his wall, he was keen to the point of obsession on outer space, what was the name of his biggest hit for feck sake ??? so most appropiate, if a bit unsightly. have i told you my "telestar" story ?

The Vaselines. Barely sold a record or got much praise in their lifetime , huge influence on a young Kurt Cobain, he covered three of their songs. The Pastels, likewise neer sold a record, but set the template in scotland for doing it your self and a bug influence on Orange Juice and the Postcard label and also a young Alan McGee who created the creation label. Now that's influence in

The Smiths, another example of what I was saying Steve Earle, as successful as he was influential in my opinion Mott The Hoople, a string of hits, sell out tours and not sure how big their influence was, if anything a band whose legacy is underestimated. Going to see Steve Earle just down the road in St. Albans. front row center. also seeing Mott at the Hammy 4th row. Does Todd Run

I think we're getting loose on both "influential" and "Unsuccessful" both subjective and relative terms but some of these bands I dont think match both criteria and some neither. Rory Gallagher was as successful as he was influential IMHO. A massive concert draw throughout Europe in his peak days and sold a fair few records as well, always popular with the press, winn

Just off the top of my head Big Star Husker Du The Burrito Brothers The Gosdin Brothers Brinsley Schwarz The Pastels and I would certainly echo The 'Matts Velvets But The Ramones made it, surely ? Do The Buffalo Springfield qualify ? even if you dont count the individual success the had, they did have some success in their lifetime.
