QuoteMKjan That the Beatle fanatics want everyone to validate them(the fanatics) with unanimous support is really a revelation of insecurity, self doubt and a fair measure of desperation. It means the unspeakable to them, that the Beatles really are overrated. BUNKUM I am music fan first and foremost and dont realy care if you like, hate or indifferent to the Beatles HONEST. just responding

I didnt realise that "music" was a first accross the line competitive sport. If it was it would be no reflection on anyone coming second the The Beatles. What this band achieved may be hard to comprhend these days. They changed the "popular" music scene is so many ways, its hard to know if the fact that the had the cheek to write their own songs, but write them so damn well.

Quotekovach QuoteNanker Phlegm I think you'll find that the first entered EMI studios in late 62. Probably so. If anything, they also recorded some Decca masters during that time. The actually first enetered a studio in '61 to record with Tony Sheridan, the first release to be credited to soley to the beatles was "cry for a shadow" on german polydor. It didnt get released

The received wisdom is that the "mono" is the way to hear them, certainly up to and including Pepper. The White Album is more debatable. WHY ? well Stereo was just a niche market still and the same attention wasnt paid to the mixing, often being done some time after the mono's and without any of the Beatles presence who were allways involved in the mono mixing. Certainly all the

ALl are UK editions as these are considered "the proper" versions, and so they are. The Monos are only available if you buy the Mono box. Only the stereos are available as individual albums.

I had been listening to the Mono and stereo Re-masteres since the weekend and was most impressed. Picked up the Mono Box today and WOW. lets put the stereo Vs Mono debate and the marketing issues aside for a moment. Has any other band achieved what these guys did in a measly 7 years. SEVEN FECKIN YEARS. Its easy to take for granted what the did, a blsiterin comet across our musical and cultur

Try and track down the Ultra Rare volumes, they knock the official anthology into a cocked hat. Check this site out, its a mine of info (and music). they now have a sister " stones" site with some great trivia, scans etc. I'm off now to play with my Mono box set. No doubt that its a cynical piece of marketing, but what a thing if beauty,

Wasnt there, but once meet a man who was. I'm sure the reality of it was hell, but still would have loved to have been there. as for Joni, thats not the reason I heard, but you know, peoples memories of stuff gets hazey and selective. Didnt the Stones have their own Woodstock in mind, but managed to feck it up ? A

As I've said before, my cousin Ron Kavana was there. The support band were Diz and The Doormen, Diz played piano in Charlies side project at the time and also in my cousin band "juice on the loose" Ron got in as a roadie for the doormen. i was on the list to be a fellow roadie but never got the call, i found oy after that the waiting list for roadies would have probably filled wem

" forgotten " !!! if it wasnt for the fact that he was so damn good, there would be a case for him being overrated. Chris Hillman makes a very good point about Gene Clark, theres a guy with a larger back catalogue than Gram, and probably wrote more great songs, but he didnt die the romantic death in the desert. I love both of them, its allowed you know. just like you can love the b

Hard to go wrong with any Lucinda album, that said I dont think she found her true voice (and sound) untile Gravel Wheels. I expect most of us know the Mry Chapin Carpenter (fine version) of Passionate Kisses, but does anyone recall the live version that CMT usta show on heavy rotation, featuring the cream of the country ladies backin M.C.C. including Emmylou ? its was that that made me seek

Is it Van Morrison's Crazy Love ? I'd like to hear her tackle more songs like Mack The Knife, in particular the more obscure stuff, a "Mariane Sings Agnes Bernelle" would be interesting.

It because Gazza, some people see music like a sport, where you have one favourite team and record and ticket sales are the barometer of how they are judged, they can then have schoolyards type arguements using these stats to support their claim that their band is BIGGER and BETTER then yours. I too have never understood some peoples intolerance of other peoples musical tatstes. Also "

was there as well, only saw the Pogues and Madness. I've seen the Pogues countless times and was on of the dozen or so ath their first gig at the Pindar Of Wakefield ( now the water rats). I thought that Phil Chevrons Thousands Are Sailing was a highlight. a great if not prolific writer. I'd love to see the Pogues do his " Faithfull Departed" form his PuNk days with The RAdia

Steve Cropper wasting time ??? just go listen to the guitar break on Green Onions. One of the best gigs I've ever seen was Booker T and the MGs backing Neil Young. Aside from co writing Dock Of The Bay with Otis, he co-wrote a lot of other classics as well. He tells a great story about Otis's great version of Satisfaction. after introducing Otis to the song and working up their ve
