From today's edition of The New York Times: Word for Word | From Mick's Lips The Detective, the Star and the White Powder By THOMAS VINCIGUERRA Published: August 7, 2005 THE Rolling Stones may be the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band, but for years it was the most notorious as well. One of the Stones' most infamous public dust-ups took place on May 28,

I have a brand new iPod and have begun to fill it with music. I started with my favorite Stones album, EOMS. I'd love to hear creative ways of loading Stones music on iPods. Should I just put every album on it? Suggestions are welcome.

I've always loved Faraway Eyes. Later in my life, I got into some of Gram Parsons' early stuff with the International Submarine Band and the Flying Burrito Brothers and I was able to connect the dots. The Stones do not often set out to be funny, but Jagger truly hit the mark on Faraway Eyes. As far as Bakersfield, I have not been there for decades. Buck Owens plays there regularl

I was a dork and missed that tour. I was putting myself through college and had a parttime job, and Anaheim was all of a 90-minute drive from campus. Have always regretted skipping this tour. Hearing eight songs from Some Girls in a row must have been incredible. I did see two of the '75 shows, though.

This board is one harsh jury. For most of the day, I stayed tuned into the local classic rock station (about the only one left in this town) and waited for Rough Justice to pop up. It's fine, in my opinion. I'm glad it got out there early enough for folks going to the early shows on the tour to be familiar with it. I prefer breaking in new Stones releases by hearing them on the car r

I can't believe that we're talking about this subject, or that I brought up the topic in the first place. But my guess is that Gazza is talking about the "love juice" referenced in Everything Is Turning to Gold. Not exactly R-rated, but I guess it belongs on the list.

The Stones have a long tradition of R-rated lyrics. If you start arbitrarily with Rocks Off from Exile and then move forward chronologically, that tradition includes Star Star, Short & Curlies (arguably If You Can't Rock Me, too), Some Girls, She's So Cold (OK, that's PG-rated), Start Me Up, Too Much Blood, Had It With You, I Go Wild and Sparks Will Fly --and I'm sure that

Wilco's albums Being There, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost Is Born are all modern classics. Their other albums, A.M. and Summerteeth, are also great. Being There (1997) would be a good entry point for Stones fans.

Wow! Thanks for the confirmation. To anyone who is going to the Atlanta show: you're in for a great evening of music. Don't arrive late.

Hmm. No one has mentioned Let's Work. C'mon, it's not that bad of a song, is it? Also absent from the lists above is "She's the Boss," which has a fun vocal (especially as the song is fading) and unexpected Under-My-Thumb-in reverse point of view.

I may be going way out on a limb on this point, but didn't Sympathy for the Devil originally make reference to only one Kennedy being killed? As I understand it, Sympathy was recorded at Olympic from June 4 through June 10, 1968. When RFK was shot on June 5, the reference to Kennedy in Sympathy for the Devil was changed to Kennedys. I haven't seen the Godard film for years. Maybe

There are a handful of threads that relate to news on the new album. How about creating a separate page for news about the new album (maybe replacing the "Alfie" page)? That way, it would be easier to access the information that really matters without needing to read through all of the posts on separate threads.

There are entertainers, and there are artists. And there are those who fall into both camps. And then there is Dylan. I'm in awe of him. I feel fortunate that he is accessible to his audience as he is. And I think it is Dylan's right and privilege for him to reinterpret his songs any way he wishes. There is a mystery to Dylan that defies explanation. And I am aware that Dylan woul

One small thing that disappointed me about the most recent release of IORR is the short gap between the end of Ain't Too Proud to Beg and It's Only Rock 'n' Roll. On the LP, I believe that there was no gap of silence at all. On the CD, there is.

I was at the Bowl box office, where the ticket distribution system was flawed and unfair. After people who were in line got their wristbands by dipping their arm into a cardboard box held by someone on the Bowl staff, some people got back in line again to get a second wristband. The guy behind me in line was one of these double-dipping cretins. I pointed him out to the Bowl staff member who s

Here's a connection between Dylan and the Stones: In 2002, Dylan regularly performed Brown Sugar. I saw Dylan and his band do Brown Sugar three times at the Wiltern Theater in L.A. Less than three weeks later, at the same theater, I saw the Stones perform Brown Sugar. (And they performed Like a Rolling Stone two days earlier in Anaheim.)

Gosh, I hope that no copyright rules are being bent by posting this. Dylan Gives the People What He Wants By BILL WYMAN Published: June 12, 2005 The theater, 70 miles north of Lansing, Mich., was big and boomy and boxy, and a third empty. The fans sat, six to a side, at long tables perpendicular to the stage. A few dozen yards away, slot machines jangled, lights flashed, cards snap

I read Bill Wyman's piece on Dylan in a Sunday edition of the New York Times. The writer is not the Bill Wyman from the Stones; it's someone with the same name. Years ago, this writer wrote about having the same name as "our" Bill Wyman. I'll post some of the text if I can find it. It was a fine piece of writing but I recognize that interest in Dylan among most members

I went to the Hollywood Bowl box office last night to pick up tickets for an event next week. The guy at the window told me that wristbands for Stones tickets will be distributed at the Bowl on Monday morning. He said that 10 windows will be open when tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. I happen to live close to the Bowl. So I intend to get a wristband and then hope that gets me a spot in the front

Maybe the warhorses could be taught new tricks. They could start with a familiar song like Start Me Up, shift to some other song, and then return to Start Me Up. While I usually don't like medleys, doing something like this would be a way of performing hits that some people expect while pleasing those of us who crave something fresh and unexpected.

Billy Preston was on hand in the early Beatles days, when they were performing at clubs in Hamburg and England as a support act for headliners like Little Richard. Billy was part of Little Richard's band. "He looked about 10 then," John recalled (The Beatles Anthology, p. 77). Ringo said Preston was 16 at the time (p. 78).

Aw, Flaming Lips are cool. Yes, the furries are kind of strange, but they are also fun, and singer Wayne Coyne is a terrific entertainer. He stole the show at Coachella 2004. The Soft Bulletin is a classic album, and Yoshimi is also good. Previous albums are less familiar to me. The Flaming Lips albums that I've heard have none of the theatrical elements that some may perceive as barrier
