Hairball, I believe that the Mayan is the venue you're thinking of. I saw Spiritualized there, as well as David Byrne and Coldplay before they got as big as they are today. I'm not wild about the Hollywood Palladium, either, sdstonesguy. It is something of a dump. But it does have historic value, and after all, Keith and the X-Pensive Winos played there.

If they performed Dobie's Gray "Drift Away" on this tour, they could make everyone happy. It would be a cover song; it's something they have recorded but never released; it would be a fresh addition to their set. And the Stones would put other artists' versions of this song to shame.

While packing up belongings in preparation for a move, I came across an autograph I got from Charlie Watts, and my notes from the encounter. I saw Charlie leaving a liquor store in Hollywood, just a block south of Hollywood Boulevard, on June 13, 1987. I think that his band may have been scheduled to perform that night at the nearby Hollywood Bowl. He was wearing tan trousers and a tan jacket

Sdstonesguy is right on the mark! I saw three of Dylan's five performances at the Pantages in Los Angeles and was blown away by how sharp they were. I wish I could drop everything and follow him to each of the remaining gigs on this tour. If Dylan is playing near you, check him out.

Hanoi Rocks was originally sharing tonight's bill at a club in L.A. with Ian Hunter, of Mott the Hoople fame. They disappeared from the bill several weeks ago, however, somewhat to my relief. It's going to be the first time seeing ian Hunter with a full band. A few years back, he appeared at a record store in L.A. backed only by a second guitarist. Ian Hunter's recent studio alb

It would be a refreshing change to give Mick the final vocal on the upcoming album. I think it's time to retire the formula that gave Keith the final vocal on many post-70s Stones efforts (All About You, Sleep Tonight, Slipping Away, Thru and Thru, Thief in the Night/How Can I Stop and Losing My Touch). Having said that, a song with a mixed vocal (like Salt of the Earth and Memory Motel) wou

Just saw this message posted at McLagan's website, www.macspages.com: "I'm off to London to play a show with Ronnie Wood on Sunday, March 13th at the Drury Lane Theatre. Many guests have been invited, but if you think this is the Faces reunion we've all been waiting for, think again Brian. 129. Re: SF
When Abbey Road was released, Rolling Stone published two reviews (issue 46). One of those reviews was favorable, and the other, by Ed Ward, was not. That review launches with the words: "Eeeeeeeeeeeek, it's the Beatles." Additional excerpts: "What's it like? Well, I don't much like it. . . ." "Side two is a disaster . . ." "Surely they m

SDStonesguy, I wish I could join you! Best spot will be to the left of the stage, but even then, Mac may be hard to see behind his piano and organ. If you already own the Faces box, bring it along and he'll probably sign it for you. You'll have a great time. The band is great.

I couldn't find any scheduled dates on his website, but I did find some contact information specifically addressing any tour plans in the UK (see below). Mac appears to be based in Texas these days. Good luck! . . . and for all enquiries about Ian McLagan & the BUMP BAND's plans in the UK call: Nigel Morton at MONEYPENNY Phone: +44(0)1377 217815 / 217662 Fax: +44(0)1377 217754

I saw Ian McLagan's Bump Band perform two sets at Tangier in Los Angeles last night, and had a great time. Besides the Bump Band's stuff, the sets included Faces, Small Faces and even solo Ron Wood material ("Mystifies Me" from the first solo record). The band is great and Mac is a terrific entertainer. After the show, he signed things for fans and could not have been more fri

Are there any Stones fans who got tickets to see Bob Dylan/Merle Haggard/Amos Lee at the Pantages in Los Angeles next month? He's doing five performances over a six-day period. Just interested in seeing how many people who read the posts on this board also are fans of Dylan . . .

West 8th Street and Sixth Avenue is a great area to explore, and has a direct Stones connection (reference in the first grooves of Dance Part 1, unless I'm hearing the lyrics wrong). It was fun to stumble on that corner after hearing Mick yelp about it for 20-some years, and see what all of the fuss was about. That record shop is located above street level, so it's easy to overlook.

My first Stones concert could have been the benefit for Nicaraguan earthquake survivors at the Inglewood Forum, in mid-January 1973. But I didn't or couldn't go. I can't recall if I didn't go because the show sold out or because the tickets were too expensive. I was 14, and my parents may have had some influence on my ability to go to the show, too. So I had to wait until J

Wes Anderson's current film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, features a large number of David Bowie songs sung by a Portuguese singer. I like the film, and I really like the eccentric music presentation. And I think that Anderson used 2000 Man brilliantly in Bottle Rocket.

I've seen Graham Parker and his band two or three times when they have come to Los Angeles in recent years. Their show never disappoints. And the current Graham Parker album, Your Country is especially enjoyable.

I remember viewing the Stones performances on the Don Kirshner show in 1973 and 1974. Those broadcasts certainly were events at my house. But I don't recall the Stones ever appearing on the Midnight Special or ABC's In Concert. The King Biscuit Flower Hour was another program from the same era, but that was radio only, I believe. Angie, Silver Train and Dancing with Mr. D were the so

Here is a link to an article in the New York Times Business section today. The illustration featured in the piece (both in the print edition and online) is worth seeing; it shows the heads of Mick, Ron, Charlie and Keith on a Mount Rushmore-like mountainside. Here are the first few paragraphs of the piece, in which the Stones are mentioned. ARMCHAIR M.B.A. Innovation, Leadership and S
