When the Stones toured in 2002, they did a post-holiday victory lap in the U.S., similar to what is taking place on this tour. My assumption was that the setlists would not be that different, but when I compared the Boston Fleet Center show from September 2002 with the show in January 2003 at the same venue, the setlists were quite different. Eleven songs were played at both shows; 22 songs were

It Won't Take Long was played for the first time live at the Nov. 8 Hollywood Bowl show. A local critic for the Los Angeles Times had been complaining that the sets were too safe and skimped on songs from the new album; at the second Bowl show, they performed Rain Fall Down and It Won't Take Long.

Criss Cross Man came very close to making it on to Goats Head Soup. Rolling Stone included it when they published a rundown of the tracks on the album, a few months before its release.

I enjoy the covers selected by the band. It gives us a chance to see the band behaving as music fans just like the rest of us. Memphis was lucky to get Night Time and Mr. Pitiful back-to-back; at the three L.A. shows, we got Night Time each time, and didn't get to hear Mr. Pitiful at all. It would be interesting to see Get Up Stand Up show up again.

The booklet in the Rarities collection sheds little light on the background of the songs. Does anyone have the details on Through the Lonely Nights, first released as the B-side of It's Only Rock 'n' Roll? I read a rumor that Jimmy Page plays guitar on the track . . . true or false? Also, who sings background vocals? I have read that this song was part of the same batch of song

Rockman, Brand New Car belongs on your list . . . and probably others that I'm overlooking. (I guess the car horn in Country Honk would not qualify that song for your list.)

James Lynn asked: What do you mean video of this number??? Where is it located? I'd love to have. What other songs are on all videos etc pre 1980 This was part of the Don Kirshner Rock Concert performance in 1973: Angie, Silver Train and Dancing with Mr. D. The band had a different wardrobe for each number. It must be available on bootleg somewhere. The following year they did anothe

Macca's shows have around 36 songs. A glance at his recent setlist makes me wish the Stones would perform that many songs in their shows, even if they added an intermission.

I love the album, but had identified Driving Too Fast as a song that was OK, but didn't really do much for me (there are two others, Dangerous Beauty and It Won't Be Long). Then I decided to play the album using the Shuffle function on my iPod. In the second position, right after Rough Justice, Driving Too Fast actually sounded pretty good!

The old expression, "you can't compare apples and oranges" seems to apply here. Tattoo You is a classic album that many of us have had in our lives for almost a quarter-century, while A Bigger Bang is like a newborn infant. Tattoo You was assembled by cherry-picking recordings over a period of many years (anyone know the oldest track on Tattoo You?) with different band lineups, whi

By JON PARELES Published: September 4, 2005 SOMETIMES clichés are underrated. The Rolling Stones embrace them wholeheartedly on "A Bigger Bang" (Virgin), their first album of new songs since 1997, and they're better off for it. "A Bigger Bang" is their first album of new songs in eight years. The sound is unadorned Rolling Stones: two guitars, bass, drums, a sp

Funny, I had just pulled Wandering Spirit off the shelf so I could add it to my iPod. Yes, it's an incredibly strong album. Mick's other solo albums have highlights, and are generally underrated, but Wandering Spirit is strong from start to finish. I don't recall Keith dismissing this one as Wandering Dogshit, so maybe even he appreciates it.
