With all the comparing taking place between the old bootleg run through and the new "enhanced" version we should also keep in mind that you simply can't have everything: With every decision that is made when refining a track for release you discard other options. That's just the way it goes. Another important factor is that we've got used to the old version over the c

Quotebig4 QuoteStonesTod QuoteCarster Here it is. GREAT it is! thank you. quick reaction: not as bad as feared. mick does a reasonable facsimile of his faux-country vox from the era...thankfully very little of his modern mannerisms....having said that...not sure what was wrong with the original vocal...but that's mick fer ya.... I agree. He probably thinks he can sing it better

Quoteironbelly QuoteGreenblues Quoteretired_dog Not my favourite outtake to start with, but, hey, it sounds great, and unlike some Exile-reworks, it sounds convincing. But a strange choice for a "single" nonetheless. Yeah, I couldn't have imagined any other track as Claudine as the single. Well... They can always try "We had it all"/"You win again". This

I like it. I mean, he didn't overdo it. And no refining can better the melody, which I find a bit repetetive, missing a really strong refrain. It still sounds like an outtake, but it's great to have this rehashed version, at least sounding a little more finished than before.

Quotexke38 QuoteGreenblues Many of them old "Krautrock" bands (who'd strongly prefer not to be labelled that way) like Tangerine Dream, Neu!, Faust etc. In exchange (so to speak) for Barclay James Harvest. Not quite sure whether that was a good deal though... Ha, good choice! No, I don't think it was a good deal by any means ;-) Still, BJH were extremely popular in

The Beatles broke the ice. They paved the way for the Stones and all the British invasion groups to come. And they did it with their sweeping enthusiasm and their irresistible brand of brilliant pop songs. I really can't imagine there would've been room for a filthy looking band of Blues purists before the Beatles had burst onto the scene. And just placing the devil's advocate ques

Quoteoceanage I find this thread interesting. I actually purchased the original artwork which graces the "Backside" of Not for Beginners a few years ago. It actually is a pair of hands squeezing the back of a woman's behind. We love the piece as it is truly a conversation in itself when viewing. Long live rock n roll! It's really nice to see a three year old thread

An early highlight for me. Always reminds me of the German "Around And Around" LP (the moment I saw this new Track Talk anouncement, I even thought it was on that album for a moment). Great LP with the title track, I Wanna Be Your Man, It's All Over Now, You Better Move On etc. And a great, scruffy cover shot, that somehow fits this particular song (It's Not Easy).

I've been a big Woody Allen fan all through the 80s. But at some point after "Crimes and Misdemeanors" Allen lost the plot somehow. For most of the 90s and after he's been content to create ever new combinations of the same old topics and Woody Allen stereotypes. I mean, there are notable exceptions like "Wild Man Blues", but most of his later work like, say "Th

It could be an outtake from Primitive Cool too, as I understood here once. Quoteretired_dog In 1994, when they re-worked So Young, they also culled Fiji Jim, We Had It All, Let's Go Steady, Shame Shame Shame (these are the ones I remember, there may be more) from the archives for possible release. Given that We Had It All, strictly speaking an ER outtake, now appears on this Some Girls reissue and that the other songs are covers, it would not surprise me if Don

Quoteflilflam Not only do the four songs show good musicianship and harmonizing, but they also have a special quality. They are slow and haunting and mysterious. The lyrics are intelligent and reflective. I think these five songs are some of the best music the Stones have ever made. I would like to hear more of these unusual and unique songs on their next CD. Hopefully, there will be a few

QuoteBlueranger quote: The original mono mixes of "Beggars Banquet" and "Let It Bleed" are two of the best-sounding rock LPs of all time. ...Except that both albums (with the notable exception of "Sympathy For The Devil") are proved as fold downs. The original mastering engineers of both LP's has stated this on the Steve Hoffman forum. They also explaine

I find that intro riff to be quite conventional, honestly. It's just the old Johnny B. Goode routine. Or did you mean the SOUND of it? It surely sounds good. But it's hardly original, just like the whole song - except maybe for the lyric.

I don't like it that much. Together with "Star Star" it's one of the first Stones-by-numbers tracks, an early sign of going through the motions. It's still fun, though. And I like the live version from Love You Live. There are even some strong renditions to be found among the shows from the Vegas era. What's interesting to me about this track is that it seems to b
