Quoteswimtothemoon When I Saw the Eagles a couple years ago, I basically left the show thinking they take Themselves too seriously. The Eagles take themselves too seriously? Imagine that! I'm with Jeffrey Lebowski: I HATE THE EAGLES, MAN! Having grown up in Southern California in the 1970s, I could not escape them. They were everywhere with their nasal platitudes and tinhorn philoso

QuoteRip This I laughed a lot...and remembered even more...what a run this show has had...classic Gilda... You know this "classic Gilda" is a big joke on Patti Smith, right? Patti has revived her carrer and become an official 1970s cool person from New York. But she was a big joke when "Candy Slice Gilda" came out in 1979.

The song came out during the miserable depths of the Bush-Cheney years. I appreciated the song. My favorite rock singer couldn't resist taking a swipe at those morons. I needed that. It helped me through those dark times. I hadn't thought about the song in some time, and seeing the words "Sweet Neo Con" today made me sick all over again.

Any band that sings "Highway to Hell" doesn't get to carry a torch, the greatest R&R band torch or any other torch. I always thought, if the torch were to be passed, it might to go Willy DeVille. But I'm weird that way, and besides, Willy DeVille is dead, lying horizontally in his grave, which means he can't carry a torch.

Wouldn't it be great if they did a cover album -- 12 for their favorite blues, rock, and country tunes?

QuoteSilver Dagger A magnificent call to arms for the world's restless youth... QuoteDoxa This is the soundtrack song of that crazy year 1968... The Stones probably would not ever again be so urgent and reflecting the zeitgeist as they then were with this song. If there is ever a use for the term 'relevance', it applies just here. I've heard this kind of stuff before ab

You could make a similar list of songs Charlie Watts didn't play on. Jimmy Miller was an excellent drummer. He played on some of the best songs on "Exile." Hell, he played the cowbell on "Honky Tonk Women."

I always assumed that the name "Jumpin' Jack Flash" had its origins in the well-known nursery rhyme: Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over The candlestick However, debating this point with somebody, he pointed out that I probably got that idea from Don McLean, whose 1971 hit "American Pie" refers to Mick Jagger as follows: Jack be n

Quoteryanpow Sounds like he was paying attention to the music too : "Ron Wood was the rhythm guitarist replacing Mick Taylor; Billy Preston was really shooting-off at the keyboard; Keith Richards was on lead guitar and he and Ron were doing some sub-glancing lilting highs against each other's edges but Keith held a firmer more natural ground, albeit an easy one which allowed Ron to come

Amen to that. Below is the ad Johnny Cash's manager's paid to put in Billboard Magazine in 2000. Cash's album won a grammy but it couldn't get played on the radio because modern country radio utterly and completely sucks. I'd love to see the Stones put out an album of country covers. Jagger's older voice is suited for singing country. Maybe the Stones can turn Ame

Whatever happens, they should get a producer who challenges them. Somebody like John Philip Shenale who will get more texture in the sound. Here's an idea: an album of covers. As they get older, they play country better. I'd like to hear Keith play more acoustic guitar.

Ronnie Wood's greatest contribution to the Rolling Stones. The way I heard it, Woods came up with the slide riffs. I like how some of the words are in Spanish. And it tells a universal story (poor man seeks sexual gratification at a discount rate and is repelled by haughty streetwalker). The outtake is better than the version on Black and Blue, IMHO.

James Brown and the Famous Flames most certainly surpassed the Stones at the T.A.M.I. Show in 1964. Keith Richards admitted it. I remember all the speculation about who would replace Taylor. The oddest name being bandied about was Roy Buchanan. Supposedly they invited him to join, he declined, and for a time he had the nickname "the man who tumbled the stones down." He would've been a strange choice. He was American and he didn't look like a Stone -- he was bearded and pudgey. But he was a darn good

Great find! Thanks for posting. It gives more meaning to Watts' "You're my singer, I'm not your drummer." I always though Watts' drumming means as much to the Rolling Stones' sound as anything. Watts is a jazz drummer in a rock and roll band. It's one of the secrets of the Stones' sound.

I'm showing my age, and yes I bought it. What I remember: Arguing with a friend, another Stones fan, whether "Monkey Grip" referred to heroin. It did and he was right. All the great musicians that were put to waste on the album -- Dr. John, Betty Wright, Leon Russel. To show you what a sucker I am, I also bought "Stone Alone," his next solo effort. I remember the

BTW, "You're a rag trade girl, you're the queen of porn, you're the easiest lay on the White House lawn" was a dig at Jagger's ex-wife, Bianca, who had been doing interviews for Andy Warhol's "Interview" magazine, including an interview at the White House with Jack Ford, President Ford's son.
