Quoteswiss Quotemickschix I really doubt that 3 takes of Gimme Shelter, no matter how powerful it was, caused a miscarriage! Really, think about it...singing causing a baby in the womb to DIE!? Nope, I don't buy it. You'd have to suspect that the tale grew and grew with each re-telling!! The myth that was created just kept getting repeated. No one heard that she was very ill with the fl

QuoteLeonidP Foo Fighters cover Miss You last night (this morning, actually), live at the Cubby Bear, Chicago: Not too shabby! Not too shappy? That sucked! And what kind of performer drinks out of a plastic cup in the middle of a song? "Miss You" relies on the harmonica and sax for much of its magic, not to mention somebody who can really sing. Dave Grohl is an overgrown

Giants fan here. I live in SF. The excitement of having our team in the World Series hasn't gotten old despite the fact that we've been there three of the past five years. There's a buzz around the city with everyone having a good time. KC is like the Beatles. I prefer the Stones -- scrappy, down and dirty, soulful.

QuoteNaturalust I know lots of folks think Nicky Hopkins was the man for the Stones but the more I listen to Stones stuff from the 70's the more I realize that Billy Preston really helped the band groove. Yes indeed! Billy Preston's contributions to the Stones were invaluable. Preston made a very important contribution to their greatest album -- THE greatest rock album -- "Exi

I don't think the Clash have aged well. The seem kind of one-dimensional with their politics. However, they are the band of my youth. In 1978, I moved from California to London for six months. The Clash seemed to personify everything that was cool in London in 1978. Joe Strummer's early death made me very, very sad. I have some lyric sheets written in his hand from the "Give '

Quotedcba QuotePietro I could be wrong, of course, but I think Kate Bush's "legend" only extends as far as the British Isles. I don't know anybody in America who cares for the gushiness, the silly clothes, or the pretentious videos. Sophistication has always had a hard time crossing the Atlantic. Someone like Jimmy Page understood this a long time ago : he made sure Led Zep

Agreed! I love "If You Really Want to Be My Friend." I always thought of it as the Stones' tribute to the Philly Soul sound. Blue Magic, who provide the background vocals, are beautiful. This group (Blue Magic) had a top-ten hit in the summer of 1974, a few months before "It's Only Rock 'n Roll" came out. The song was called "Sideshow": Here

No rock band will ever replace the Stones. Rock and roll is dying. Young people don't go for it. I can't imagine any scenario where a young rock band schools itself in the blues, hones its musical skills over a decade, and puts out a string of masterpiece albums like the Stones did in the years 1968-1973. In the future, fewer and fewer people will play musical instruments. Mixing and

Haven't read it in years, but when I had a subscription in the years 1972-75, my father used to ask to borrow it. He liked the political coverage. After Jann Wenner, the editor, moved the magazine from San Francisco to New York in 1977, the mag became a glitzy celebrity chronicle. Wenner said San Francisco had become "a provincial backwater" when he moved the magazine to NYC.

Quotepeoplewitheyes It´s pretty well known that Mick was fired up on cocaine for the 81-82 tours, and it´s also pretty well known that Mick now is something of a health freak - special diets etc. When did Mick abandon the drugs? Was he cleaned up and sober for the 89 comeback? The 1975 tour was brought to you by Cocaine. All you have to do is see the videos on YouTube and hear his voice. Hi

I doubt this is a Parsons arrangement, just a Stones tune and arrangement done in a country style. I believe this was inspired from Mick and Keith staying on a South American ranch in the country and a bit of porch time with the acoustics. peace I read somew

I like the song in general, but sometimes Jagger's imitation of the Black American accent is embarassing, as it is on this song: "Why'ant ya go down the liquor store, steal something off the shelf and be back here by a quarter to three." You just wonder sometimes what goes on in his head, a middle-class English kid who has made his made a fortune from imitating Black Americ
