I wonder what I was doing on Thursday, January 30, 1969. Keeping in mind the 5-hour time differential, I was probably standing outside in the freezing cold, 3500 miles away in New York, waiting for a school bus.

Heading out shortly to catch the first of the three IMAX screenings here in Ann Arbor this weekend. I'm sure I'll have some thoughts to share later on this evening. Anyone else seen it, or planning to see it?

Looks like I'm going all in on these IMAX screenings next weekend. I've got tickets to see it twice, Friday night and Sunday afternoon (and I'll still get home in plenty of time to watch the Super Bowl). I'd probably go Saturday too, but I gotta work that day.

QuoteBoognish Quotetreaclefingers Interview with the cop that shut it all down, with no regrets all these years later. Quite good: Hmm..."shutting down" and "pulling the plug" on the rooftop concert implies that The Beatles had more songs to perform. If they did all the songs they intended then saying he "pulled the plug" is rather disingenuous. Was the setlist

QuoteIrix The Beatles: Get Back - The Rooftop Performance will play exclusively in select Imax locations across the globe over the Feb. 11-13 weekend. The concert footage was digitally remastered with proprietary Imax technology. “Peter Jackson edited this together so that you can see the concert in its full glory,” says Imax Entertainment president Megan Colligan. “And the turnout shows the po

QuoteTheGreek Do you think there will ever come a year a-la the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY , when there will be no one inducted in a calendar year ? The list of nominee's is weak , as the RRHOF is becoming a caricature of it's former self . No, because they have a pre-determined number of acts that get nominated and inducted every year, no matter how weak the scrapings

Quotebye bye Johnny Jethro Tull released "The Zealot Gene", their first album since 2003 With Martin Barre no longer in the band, what, exactly, is the difference between a Jethro Tull album and an Ian Anderson solo album these days? Besides, I thought he said years ago that he was retiring the JT moniker and wouldn't be using it again.

Here's a relatively new song that I like a lot. It's a rap, but it's so infused with an upbeat positivity, that I find it utterly irresistible. I think this guy is Canadian, from Halifax, Nova Scotia of all places, which I think explains why there's absolutely nothing "gangsta" about it. It's also not entirely a rap. It's got some nice R&B vocals as wel

Quotekovach Quotetatters I occasionally like to listen to new music, just out of a curiosity to see what the kids are up to these days, and once in awhile I'll hear something I really like. But when did it become the norm for these youngsters to almost universally adopt a whispery, child-like, mewley-mouthed style of singing? I was surprised to learn that he was already 30 years old when Bat Out of Hell was released. It's unusual for someone to make it that big at such an advanced age. I thought Christgau's review of that first album was particularly insightful. "Bruce Springsteen beware," he wrote. "This is what you have wrought, and it could happen to you." He gave it a C-.

QuoteIrix Quotetatters Anyone get their IMAX tickets yet? Another question would be: is the IMAX 60-minutes-feature worth it? Is it the same as in the Disney+ stream, 10 Tracks (5 of them repeated), interrupted by policemen and interviews with people on the street? I was thinking about going to see Jorma next Friday. I'm really not even such a big Jorma fan. In fact, the one time I did see him, 40 years ago, I got bored and walked out after eight or nine songs. But I haven't heard any live music at all since Oct. 2019, and desperation is setting in.

Quoteloog droog I recall hearing that the reason Wings Over America ended up being three discs was that some Capitol execs wandered down to check out what was going on at the Capitol Records Swap Meet--a regular event that took place in the company parking lot--and found out that one of the vendors was selling a two-disc live bootleg album of the just-completed '76 Wings tour. So to beat th

I wonder if the remaining members all actually got together to work on this since Crosby has said many a time that former bandmates generally will no longer have anything to do with him. Imagine what the Stones could do with a similar set-up. If the Sweethea

Once again, I saw no one. 793 days and counting since the last time I experienced live music. I had tickets to see Gordon Lightfoot in September, but that was postponed, for either the fourth or fifth time since Covid began. I do currently possess a front row VIP soundcheck ticket for "an intimate evening with Graham Nash" but that's not until April. How about you? I know a lot

Billboard’s year-end album chart features no new rock records for 2021, with Queen’s 1981 Greatest Hits compilation listed as the genre's biggest-selling LP over the past 12 months. The four-decade-old title appears at No. 23 in the Top 200. Only five other rock releases highlight the first 100: Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours (1977), Journey’s Greatest Hits (1988), AC/DC’s Back in Black (198

Quotetreaclefingers Quotefrankotero I hope they will streamline the video to include the rooftop concert between 1 hour 30 minutes or 2 hours and give it an official release.
