Pure Prairie League. Remember the 1975 country-rock hit "Aime?" No member of the current lineup plays on any of their records except for the one they just released in 2024. The show is sold out Better stuff coming up later in the year; Herbie Hancock, Boz Scaggs

I'm sure I've told this story here many times before, but after buying tickets for Brian's very first solo concert, my girlfriend and I decided to get married on the day of the concert. That night, under those circumstances, hearing songs like "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "God Only Knows" shook me to my emotional core in ways I never could have possibly imagin

"Vacations. Carl worked at the gas station, for a dollar an hour, while Denny took the car .... Brian sat at home, in his room, with his weight problems and his ear disease, his allergies, his pathological shyness, and wrote dreams about outdoors, where the sun was always shining, where the cosmic surfer's wave unfurled towards infinity, and where everyone was golden, young and beautifu

QuoteDiamondDog7 Heavy news! Rest in peace, Sly! I've seen him live in 2007 at North Sea Jazz festival. Glad that I did. A true legend! You saw him perform in 2007?? What must that have been like? Was he at all coherent? Did he manage to get thru a single song from start to finish without getting up from his keyboards and wandering offstage while his band continued playing as if it wer

Some truly great, timeless music. Sounds as fresh today as it did in 1969. Problem is, there isn't enough of it. He fried his brains long before he could reach his full potential. Nearly all the Sly you really need can be found on the 1970 Greatest Hits album. The only thing really missing is "Family Affair," which I consider to be the only essential track on the vastly overrated T

Quotepeoplewitheyes I wonder if the 'farewell' tag will drum up more ticket sales? Seems they've been heavily discounting them on recent tours. The only thing that might have generated any real interest at this point would have been if they really had fired Zak, and then brought back Kenney Jones to do the final tour. That would have at least reunited three-fourths of the

Lame oldies show, headlined by "The Grass Roots", minus any of the original members or even anyone who played on any of their records. Far more interesting is the opening act, 81-year-old Brian Hyland, who was 16 years old when, in the waning days of the Eisenhower administration, he scored a #1 hit when his debut single topped the charts on August 8, 1960. To put that in context, it

Just got back from the IMAX show. The place was packed, probably four times as many people as were there for the Beatles Rooftop Concert a couple years ago. The turnout kinda surprised me, especially since these seemed like knowledgeable fans who knew what they were there to see. It's not as if they were all expecting "Comfortably Numb" and a laser show and were sitting there all c

QuoteBig Al He had such a lengthy career, too; boxing professionally into the mid 1990’s. As well as his world famous bouts against the likes of Ali, didn’t he fight Holyfield? He had two careers, really, Remember, he took a 10-year hiatus from 1977 to 1987 during which time he didn't box at all. The most remarkable thing about him was the complete transformation of his personality during

I saw him in concert for the first and only time just about 18 months ago. He was clearly in failing health; frail and trembling, but he was in good spirits and his sense of humor was fully intact. Interestingly, all of his politically-tinged commentary that night was very much in the non-partisan, "heal the divide" spirit. At one point, I bust out laughing when he said, "If you

I saw the film this morning. At nearly two and a half hours, it might seem a little long for some, but I enjoyed it very much. I think I might even have had one of those misty-eyed, "I'm not crying, you're crying" moments when Bob and Joan sang "It Ain't Me Babe."

QuoteNashvilleBlues January 15. Ringo Starr (Ryman) Wittingly or not, Ringo is one of the major architects of country rock. "Act Naturally," and the other country songs Ringo covered as a member of the Beatles, all pre-date Nashville Skyline and Sweetheart of the Rodeo by several years. The Ryman would be a very cool place to see him.

"Box of Rain" is a beautiful song. All about impermanence, about how we're here for just the blink of an eye and then gone for eternity. "Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there" According to lyricist Hunter, Lesh "wanted a song to sing to his dying father and had composed a piece complete with every vocal nuance but the words. If ever a

I seem to remember that the LP originally came shrink-wrapped with a full-color poster that could be folded in any of various numerous ways to create, theoretically, dozens of different, alternative album "covers." Problem was, the poster consisted entirely of thermographic images, so no matter which way you folded it, you ended up with something that wasn't much of an improvement.

I remember seeing The Great White Hope when it was first released in 1970. It boggles my mind to think that the events depicted in that film, which take place between the years 1908 and 1915, were well within the living memories of the older people who were in the theater that night.
