James Earl Jones passed away at age 93.

On the big screen, Jones first appeared in 1964's classic Cold War satire "Dr. Strangelove," earned a best-actor Oscar nomination for the 1970 film adaptation of "Great White Hope," and over the course of five decades also starred in "Conan the Barbarian" (1982), "Coming to America" (1988), "Field of Dreams" (1989) and "The Sandlot" (1993).

And of course the voice of villain Darth Vader in Star Wars.

I was lucky enough to see his one-man performance of Thurgood in NYC some years back - brilliant and powerful. He also made a delightfully bonkers appearance as himself on Big Bang Theory more recently. The man truly covered all the bases, and he’ll be much missed. RIP.

star wars was a big part of my childhood and very important to me growing up and still is (almost as important as the stones) with his passing a small part of me went with him

Well, ha ha, I have the box set of the 11 seasons of MASH. But when I see Alan Alda now (and the past 30 years I guess) I'm always shocked!!! So obviously he's gotten older and looks nothing like the MASH years.

However, some people don't seem to age, I guess when you see them often enough, and hear them enough, you don't realize that they actually are old. It never occurred to me to wonder how old James Earl Jones was because he just kept appearing in whatever and, of course, his voice is all over the place.

Perhaps a lot of people don't see Mick and Keith's and Ronnie's age because they're constantly being seen and heard - used to seeing them the way they are so it's not "noticeable".

And, it really is something, it seems, for people to get to 93!!!! That's way up there!!!

Best known to me in Sandlot! ... I've never been a huge Star Wars fan.

I remember seeing The Great White Hope when it was first released in 1970. It boggles my mind to think that the events depicted in that film, which take place between the years 1908 and 1915, were well within the living memories of the older people who were in the theater that night.
