It was originally supposed to have been a Paul Simon solo concert. Then he decided he'd like to have Artie join him for a few songs. Rehearsals began, and gradually, they kept adding more and more S&G songs, to the point where fully half of the concert was going to be a Simon and Garfunkel reunion. That would have made Paul, in effect, the opening act for Simon and Garfunkel. He didn

Quotesteffialicia My husband and I tried but literally could not get into the park. It was so unbelievably crowded. I've enjoyed videos of it time and time again until this day. A great show. You might not have been able to make onto the Great Lawn where you'd be able to see or hear something, but it's hard to believe you couldn't get into the park at all. Did the cops st

That was the only time in my life I'd ever been in a crowd anywhere near that large. I guess that was my "Woodstock," even if it only lasted 90 minutes and there was only one act. Any fellow New Yorkers care to share their memories of that day?

Quotebye bye Johnny Sad, but I like it. It has a strong Exile on Main St. vibe. It could have been incorporated into the packaging of that album back in '72 and it would have fit in perfectly not only with the black and white photography, but with the overall sound of the album as well. I've been wanting to get a Stones tattoo for 40 years. Maybe this is the one I'll

I remember one night in Detroit, just before they hit the stage, the Temptations song "Ball of Confusion" was playing, and I think the only reason I remember that is that it seemed just so perfect. A tune by the Temps for a show in Detroit, the lyrics still resonating, decades after it was recorded, even the line "The Beatles new record's a gas" made sense because they ha

What a surprisingly pedestrian selection that is. You'd think they'd just play some good reggae or something. Actually, I think that's what I remember them doing when I saw them in 1978.

QuoteEasterMan I would prefer to see the Faces with Mick Hucknall these days, he can still hit the higher notes. That would leave only Ronnie and Kenney from the original group. Can that really still legitimately be called the Faces? And btw, if this video proves anything at all, it's that Ian McLagan was such an indispensable part of the band's overall sound, it makes me wonder

QuoteBig Al If The Faces are to perform larger venues, what are the odds on the reunion being marketed as ‘Rod Stewart and The Faces’? Is the ‘Faces’ name alone a big enough draw for high-capacity arenas? In the United States the Faces are a one-hit wonder. One hit, nearly 50 years ago. Of course, everyone recognizes and knows whose voice it is on the record. So yeah, it'll be advertised a

I doubt there's gonna be much of a tour. Rod's already got a full slate of solo dates booked all the way into September 2022. If they do anything at all, it'll probably be something along the lines of what we got from Cream in 2005. A couple of nights in London, a couple of nights in New York.

Quoteloog droog Why isn't Rick James in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame? The Rock Hall seems to prioritize artists they consider to be influential over those who exhibit mere musical excellence. They probably consider Rick to have been more influenced by others (Clinton, Sly) rather than being an influence on others, although the film does try to make a convincing case that Prince

New documentary now in heavy rotation on the Showtime Network. I caught part of it last night. They had an interview with a member of the Mynah Birds, the short-lived mid-60s Motown band that featured a lineup including both Rick James and Neil Young. One interesting little factoid of which I had not previously been aware: Several years after his stint in the Mynah Birds, James auditioned, un

Realize they exist obv, but always thought they were mostly from their home country and/or bubble gum pop type fans. Good on 'em though ...never did get the popularity with them. QuotePaddy Looking forward to this. One of the earliest bands I got into via a friends older brother, He saw them twice on that reunion tour in 93. Said they weren’t great. Anyone here catch them on that run of gigs? We never got a reunion tour here in the States. Closest we got was the Reed/Cale Songs for Drella shows in 1989. I saw two of those, including one where Maureen showed up to

According to their wikipedia page, this band has had something like seventy different members over the years. That's got to be some kind of record, although Blood Sweat and Tears probably comes close. I saw them about 20 years ago, as part of some kind of "summer of love" oldies package tour. I think Jefferson Starship, still with Kantner and Balin in the lineup, were the headli

In the movie, it's interesting how Milner hates The Beach Boys, but Carol loves them. Really captures a transitional moment in the history of American Rock music. And of course, it was the inclusion of "All Summer Long" playing over the closing credits, combined with the release of the Endless Summer compilation album, that catapulted The Beach Boys back to the top of the charts an

I'm remembering the last time they played the Pontiac Silverdome in 1997. When it was over, the four of them took a final bow. But then, after they walked off, Mick and Charlie came back and took one last bow together. Just the two of them. The roar from the crowd was even louder than it had been for the four of them! It was as if Mick was preparing the audience for a future in which he and

I'm not going to read this entire thread, but I'm guessing the general consensus of those here is, "Yes, they should quit, but not just yet, because I need closure and for that, I have to see them one last time." Is that about right?

I like the albums Johnny Winter produced for Muddy Waters in the late 70s and early 80s. I know they're not considered Muddy's best work, but they correspond chronologically with the period in which and I first discovered the blues, and even got to see Muddy perform in person a couple of times.

QuoteDan Covid is the negative impact. Otherwise stuff like this *increases* sales and the urgency to see them while anyone is left. Seems counterintuitive, but perversely enough, when The Who announced they would tour without John Entwistle in 2002, ticket sales actually increased. Fans were curious to hear what a Who gig would sound like with someone other than The Ox playing bass. Also, t
