What a great post... a good read. I totally agree with wanderingspirit66. I have posted on this site many times about my appreciation for this album. Of course it is a matter of taste, what you really like about the Stones and rock and roll, etc, but I have always felt this record was the Stones most mature effort. It is by far their smartest record imho, and as for that "80's"

Traveling Man is released isn't it? Isn't it on Metamorphosis? How about the version of You Got The Silver w/ Mick on vocals? I love that one! I reeeeeeally hope these things (all the above tunes) are released some day. There are far too many crappy bootlegs out there with these great songs on them.

I read this book back in June of 93 or whenever... it was a month before it was actually published. I picked it up at a used bookstore owned by a guy who previews books for a living. So yeah, I read it about 12 years ago and enjoyed it, although I remember it had the usual "unauthorized" bio mistakes, like the wrong names of solo albums, etc... There was another VERY similar bio of MJ

Always loved The Pogues version of HTW. Also, Bowie's Let's Spend The Night Together and more recently, Cat Power's brilliantly haunting Satisfaction cover.

Hey, I was thinking the same thing as I had it cranked in my stereo on the way home from work today. Great tune. I am really happy with this album in general. There are a couple weak tunes, but when there are 12 or so really great ones, the duds don't matter. AND, the duds really aren't that bad. I think a lot of effort went into this album, despite the arthritic fingers and all th

Definitely sounded like a canned loop to me. It was, as mentioned above, more hidden in the mix. I did not see anyone playing congas. The version was better, slightly more raw, than past versions. Charlie's beat was SLIGHTLY more Ya-Ya's-esque than the straight-ahead beat he's played since steel wheels.

Two things: #1 That photo makes the stage look a LOT further away than it is. Fenway is a TINY ballpark as far as stadiums go. It only seats 33,000! When you sit behind homeplate at Fenway, you're amazed at what a small ballpark it really is. #2 Fenway is Boston's most beloved and historical venue. To see the Stones at Fenway is like a dream for many. The in-field being ful

Does anyone know if Amtrak or Trailways is running special trips to the Boston shows? I'm hoping to take a bus or train from Maine (I do not want any driving hassles! I HATE driving in Boston!!), and I don't want to have to skip the encore to make my trip back! The latest return trip Northbound to Portland, ME I can find leaves South Station at 11:15, which I believe will be cuttin

I found it funny that on allmusic.com there is a 2005 release called "The Big Bang Theory" by ... Styx .... heh-heh.

Wow!! I am really jealous. I'm psyched to see the Stones at Fenway, but not really psyched about the Black Eyed Peas (at all). Wilco/Stones would be fantastic!! For those of you attending, Congrats on the best opening act of the tour! That one will be great.

I play a relatively inexpensive (but pretty) little premier kit, a natural maple-ish color, although the drums themselves are made of some sort of cheap asian wood, I believe, It is a '98 kit, I believe, just before (?) they moved the factory to the far east. I don't use the snare. Instead, I have a mapex bird's-eye maple snare which I love, and an old plastic black ludwig snare

Always thought DW was very weak, have posted many times my thoughts on the poor production, loud drums, etc on that album... Undercover, on the other hand, I have always felt to be the Stones most mature rock and roll album. It shows a band at its height experience-wise. They had just come off a hugely successful album and tour, and were really sitting pretty. Unfortunately, a number of fa

OK, as a drummer for life I have to put in my 2 (or 3) cents. First of all, my impression of Charlie is that he is NOT a great jazz drummer, and has gotten lazy over the years even as a rock drummer. I love Charlie, I love his style, I play kinda like Charlie because of that, but in terms of "greatness" I'd say while he may be a big fan of jazz, he's not up there with the ja

I think this will be different than Elevation (and Vertigo)... They are plugging it as a new thing, as if it has not been done before. Plus, the whole notion of having a "good view of our (their) bums" implies the "on stage" seating will be from the back. I envision a few rows of seats actually functioning as part of the backdrop in the stage set. Imagine a local drama th

I must simply express my utter delight at all the info bv has provided us! Thank you! This tour is very exciting for me because #1 they will be performing new material and #2 they will ("probably") be playing Fenway Park!! FENWAY!! My dream is that they will do one show on the tour that consists of ENTIRELY never-bfore performed live tunes!! Think of all the songs they have to

OK, once again, the 'reply' function will not allow me to reply to posts, so I must do it this way. I apologize for the inconvenience. There has been a lot of talk about U2 on this site and I think it's because the band is hot again. I love the Stones, and I love U2, and we're all entitled to our unique opinions. That said, I must admit to being rather amused at how ge

I wanted to reply to other posts, but was unable to... Anyway... Firstly, about that Talking Heads album. I'd been waiting for that re-issue for years. It was a great double LP, excellent early live recordings from the band, and now it is an even better double cd, almost twice as long as the original. There are some nice early versions on there too (pre-studio). Why the Stones have

So I was at Sears the other day checking out the post-holiday sales, and lo and behold, there appears before me on the lower rack in the men's section... Rolling Stones boxers! $9 (U.S.)!!! OF COURSE I got a pair!! They're flannel, quite comfortable, though they do have the tendency to ride up a bit... They look like the ones in the old tour catalogues from the BTB tour and after.
