Here's my opinion... Kenney Jones was very bland. Zak Starkey does a much nicer job on drums, as he was trained by Keith Moon himself! Kenney J had a massive kit for the stage show, but never did the KM material justice AT ALL... Listen to that '82 live stuff... KJ doesn't compare. ZS simply DOES.

He's been out of the business since becoming very mentally ill eons ago, right? There is a new-ish PF book out there in retail book-land, and it has some blurbs on Syd that are quite interesting, as well as some more recent photos... makes him seem a bit like perhaps he didn't quite realize he was ever a star. Anyway, very sad he's dead, even if his creative days were over. Perh

Yes, he gets nasty later on in the film. I thought the Stones were fairly accurately depicted, and the film wasn't nearly as bad as many of the reviews claim. It had its annoying bits and was far from perfect, but not a terrible film. I rented it at our local vid store... If you have the option, those who have not seen it yet, rent it first before you decide to buy it. I enjoyed watchi

Hey wow!! When I started reading this post I thought, OK, right, a radio show in the USA, what's the chance I'll be able to get it... then I saw the web addy... And THEN I see it's in Maine!! and SOUTHERN Maine at that!! I'll give it a try on the real radio!! I'll be in Portland watching my nephew play baseball... Nothing like a little Stones with my baseball.

Yes, you said it; Lennon/Dylan/Jagger vibe is a great way to put it. I like Dumbing Up just as much as any other WP cd, though. Each one has grown on me over the years. Last night's gig was in a trio format... and KW did a lot of talking, chatting with the audience. His voice is still great after the aneurysm, but he apparently cannot see as well, has lost some of his peripheral vision

Hey folks-- I'm just back from Northampton, MA and a GREAT show by World Party. I sat right in front, right next to Karl Wallinger and had a great time. This band is influenced by the Stones and others and is a real treat to see live. They are on a small venue tour now, but will be back later in the summer, starting out in Vancouver and the west coast before gradually moving eastward

"The One and Only Drummster".... OK, I guess I can accept that! The drummster she is. And a darn fine one at that. Forgive me... perhaps I, uh... oh, never mind! WS are great! Go Meg! Solo album! I must be more careful from now on.

I LOOOVE the freakin' Pogues. Always have. They were in Boston back in March, and I was unable to attend. I was depressed for a week over it. This is a great band, and with Shane (who is indeed in a sorry state) they are nothing less than legendary. Have fun West coasters!

Ack! Did I imply something impolite when I kinda inferred that Meg isn't a very good drummer?? Yes, I know, it is part of the WStripes sound, and JW admits it, saying he likes her to "sound like a 5 year old," but in their earlier records especially, I really can't handle it. And I do love a good bass line so. I stand by my words... I hope they do not offend.

Vocal, not "voval".... I dread to consider what "voval" could mean.

Yeah, I bought this album too... I like it, but I am surprised how Zeppelinesque it really is. Especially that final track, 'Blue Veins'... The vocals are so very much like Robert Plant in the early days. How does that happen? All said, I like the last half of the cd best, regardless of its retro-qualities. I think the voval harmonies are nice! I wish the songs were a little longer

ER is one of my favorite Stones albums. I love every tune on it, even Indian Girl, which everybody seems to hate. I love the songs on this album, but I also love thhe mix. The drums sound is just fantastic, timeless... and Micks voice is mixed lower than it is in every album hereafter. I think ER follows up Some Girls really nicely, a bit of a harder edge, but still really smart rock and roll

Saw Wilco a couple weeks ago, and am psyched to see World Party at the end of the month. Both bands heavily influenced by the Stones. Saw the Stones last fall at Fenway, though it was the least impressive show of the 8 I have seen since '89. Can't wait for WP!

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but WP is back. I love this band (it's actually Karl Wallinger's solo project, after leaving the Waterboys... much better than the Waterboys imho)... Anyway, KW had an aneurysm in 2000, just after the UK release of the latest album 'Dumbing Up'. He lost the ability to speak, but has since recovered completely. Now he's fi

I listened to it yesterday as well, and I think it will win the best album category at the grammys next year, and best album for every other award thingy. It's that good, and it'll be so universally appealing that everyone will give it highest rankings... RS will give it 5 stars, all the other mags will love it, etc. This may be very big.

I distinctly heard Charlie say at the start of this tour (either on a radio spot or on one of those promo DVD bits) that he loved making this album (AB, and he looks forward to making the next one. Keep yer chins up! I'm sure there will be many happy RS releases in the coming years. If they don't do massive tours anymore, who can blame them?! They're seniors for godsake, my mo

All the movie sites, including imdb, have him backing out before the filming took place. He is not mentioned in the cast. It would be somehow not surprising of him to have an appearance and request not to be credited. Geoffrey (Jeffrey?) Rush has a role, though, I bet he could be made up to look like Keith. But who knows???

Finally getting my teaching degree (middle grades) after 12 yrs of working in Special education, outdoor education, environmental education as a non-certified instructor. Certification means I get to make a tiny bit more money for infinitely more work... then a Master's degree will follow, which means I get a tiny bit more still, for still infinitely more work. I should never have quit t

This is why I love Bruce Springsteen. The guy just does what he wants. I can understand if you don't like his folksy stuff, but 'self-indulgent' is just the wrong adjective. If he was truly self-indulgent, he'd be milking the hits for cash and cranking out tired rock albums and tours every other year and jacking up the price and the hype (I better stop before I get too clos

Charlie's drumming these days is weird. In the eighties, he got into a habit of hitting one stick harder than the other, creating a signature "BattaBattaBattaBattaBattaBatta" type sound (listen to 'Hang Fire' and 'Start Me Up' for classic examples of this). Nowadays he hits more evenly, but perhaps with less feeling? He does a lot of tom-snare-tom fills,

Heh... interesting post... Beely, what I ment by "waste of sponsorship $$" was "waste of $$" that another athlete would have enjoyed and would have worked harder for. No doubt Bode trains hard, but to slack off at the event and brag about it when interviewed says, like JJF says, "spoiled, lazy, loser." I've always liked Bode, but can you imagine how bummed

I enjoyed watching the Olympics this year a great deal, but Bode, man, what an embarrassment. Somewhere out there there is an athlete who didn't get into the olympics, sitting on his couch wishing he could be in Bode's skis, listening to Bode say, "At least I got to party at an olympic level." Some athletes bet their lives on making the olympics and representing their n

Good drumsticks are hardwood, but my guess is Charlie uses light jazz sticks which probably wouldn't hurt that much! I don't think he mentions anything about the type of sticks he uses on that fanclub DVD, but he does give us a little tour of his drumkit. Tomorrow night when my band gets together I'll have one of the other guys toss my sticks at my head from 15 feet away an

STP, I think you hit the nail on the head. I think they will release that album some day, and with the trend toward bonus tracks and dvd's, I can easily envision it in exactly the format you speak of. A BIG MONEY MAKER IT WOULD BE for the Stones, yessiree. I would loooove that release, all remastered (or just mastered would be nice!) and complete, no dubs... How sweet it would be. Ston

It would be good to keep posts like these happening for those times when MJ or KR might be watching... I wonder if they ever post as some strange pseudonym. They must! How could they resist? I would LOVE some new releases of unreleased material!!! Keep the posts going!

When I was a kid I did the same thing as maumau (got hooked around the same time too)... ok, sometimes I still do! Also sometimes I sing an occasional Stones song with the group I currently play with, but it is behind a drumkit so no Mick moves are possible. Probably a good thing. I've never really had the opportunity to sing a Stones song in FRONT of a band with a decent drummer. Still h
