Snowing here in Louisiana . . . I actually had to go out at 10 pm to scrape snow off my satellite dish, first time ever. Edited to add: Luckily the dish is not on my roof.

My local congressman-elect died of Covid last night, aged 41 (I didn't vote for him, but he was still a human being with a wife and two small children), and now we have to have a special election. He had all the fancy drugs, to no avail, and died about two weeks after being diagnosed, if that. The head of the medical facility where he died said that he died of Covid, "nothing else.&qu

Quotestone4ever notice how it all but disappeared in the summer, in Britain it was down to a few deaths each day, this when lockdowns were lifted and places were packed with holiday makers from the cities. Did you notice how after all this holiday making and merrymaking, it came roaring back worse than before? Due to all these people packed together? (Not that it had all but disappeared in

I've been internet-free over Christmas thanks to the Nashville bomber, and now I'm back I see stupid is still alive and well. Maybe if we substituted smallpox/polio for Covid the point would become clearer? "I'm going to take my chances contracting or spreading smallpox because I don't think it's too bad, I don't trust that Dr. Salk, and it's my right not

QuoteNate QuoteCaptainCorella QuoteNate What government wants a bunch of non tax paying retirees hanging around any longer than they have to. Nate A Govt that cares about its fellow human beings? I would argue they are few and far between and would say the majority care more about money and being re-elected. Nate Why do you think retirees don't pay taxes? (Genuinely curious, I

QuoteBeast QuoteNate Here in the U.K. today there are reports of a reluctance by a significant percentage of ethnic minorities to have the vaccine. Religion once again demonstrating it’s ultimate wickedness and ultimate stupidity. Nate Some members of the UK’s black community fear they might be being used as guinea pigs for a vaccine that has been quickly developed. Some would say that th

Quoteschillid 2013 at the Ron Wood / Mick Taylor gig at the Cutting Room in NYC, I spotted Mickey Dolenz in the audience. (And John McEnroe, Earl Slick...) I'd forgotten all about that, I saw him too!

I loved the Monkees and saw them at the Wembley Empire Pool when they came to London in I think 1967? Put on a terrific show, and were definitely playing all the instruments themselves.

QuoteNate QuoteChris Fountain I hope Santa and reindeer stay Covid free; We really need a good Christmas this year. Yes I hope so too but here in the U.K. I don’t expect Santa to arrive until January as he will have to quarantine for 14 days when entering the country. Nate That's why I can't visit my family in the UK for Christmas this year. But I'd hate to be responsible

There's a nice room devoted to him and his work at the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, OK, with a lot of memorabilia from the Alice's Restaurant era, etc., but my favorite parts were the letters that he wrote to his father when he was away at school. And what an amazing circle he moved in. (The Center as a whole is well worth a visit--in addition to all the musical pictures, artifacts

Quotecrholmstrom The Flaming Lips have postponed their space bubble concerts until late January. Everyone in attendance was going to be in their own bubble. Wayne Coyne said he didn't feel it was right to have the shows (even though safe) with record numbers of cases in Oklahoma. Wayne is a stand-up guy.

There are many bands and artists this sort of argument could be made about. IMO it trivializes the struggles of real peace activists around the world.

QuotePaintMonkeyManBlack Golden Earring is really good, saw them a lot of times. Great band (still are!) On topic: it's not about the past, it's about whats left in the tank Also off topic--I saw Golden Earring open for Bob Marley, and at the end the drummer did a forward flip over the drums and stuck the landing.

Vinyl prices vary wildly depending not just on rarity but on condition. The more times it's been played, the less it sells for, and most people have very sensibly played their records a lot. Buyers also care a lot about sleeves, including inner sleeves--it's worth less if the seams are split, etc. The only real money to be made is from mint copies of hard-to-find records (obviously I

I'd prefer to see them play until they drop doing what they love, than "bow out gracefully." When they want to stop, they'll stop.

Loved that band--I remember when the singer was known as Little Stevie Winwood. Spencer Davis steered them in a direction that was unique compared to other bands of the time, with that infusion of soul. RIP.

My favorite current artist, and the fan community was going bananas during this performance. I get that he's not for everyone, but this saved 2020 for me. (Was even topical, with a song about the 1918 pandemic and his song Lazaretto which means a place for people in quarantine.)

Quotecrawdaddy Shame no colour footage, (as far as I know), of the big name bands and artists who performed on RSG, but plenty of black and white stuff thankfully. In a way that's appropriate because in those days most families I knew, including mine, didn't own a color TV, so I only ever saw RSG in black and white and that's how I'll always remember it.
